You may have heard of Zion National Park, Rocky Mountain National park or The Grand Canyon, but have you ever heard of The Great Sand Dunes National Park?
Great Sand Dunes National Park is a unique and stunning natural area located in southern Colorado, USA. The park is renowned for its towering sand dunes, which are the tallest in North America, reaching heights of over 700 feet. In addition to the dunes, the park features diverse landscapes, including alpine forests, grasslands, and wetlands.
The park was established to preserve these striking sand dunes and the surrounding ecosystems. The dunes were formed by a combination of geological processes, including wind erosion and sediment deposition from the nearby San Juan Mountains. It's a beautiful and unique place to disconnect from technology, and deepen one's connection with nature.
If your looking for the best campsites at Great Sand Dunes, check out Pinon Flats which is located near the park entrance. The campground offers amenities like picnic tables, fire grates and restrooms but no hookups for RVs. Reservations are required from May through September. It's a cozy and scenic little spot that offers one of the best early fall RV destinations in Colorado and it's dog and family friendly.
What to Expect During Fall Desert Camping in Great Sand Dunes: Like I mentioned in the video, we were not able to visit this location in June due to extreme heat. Even in September the daytime temps were warm during the day and cold at night. Be prepared for varying conditions. Make sure to check the parks official website or contact the park directly for the latest information on conditions and regulations.
    Happy Fall Equinox!
