  • In this video I bring you along as I fix a ladies loud exhaust on her Chrysler Town and Country. A visual inspection revealed a rust out flange bolt creating the leak. It is an easy fix assuming you have a torch.
    -Enjoy!

    Man I tell you what Eric. You have got me loving Astro tools. My in laws got me the 52SLC for Christmas and it's the best light I've ever had. And I've ordered a bunch more of their tools, and went up to Summit racing to get a back probe kit and other stuff and got more astro tools there. It's a 2 hour drive to summit for me but it's well worth it. And I'm now super knowledgeable on circuits and how they work and testing them and using my alldata for OEM info. I've said it in multiple videos, but It goes along with your statement, sir. That Eric belongs teaching more than running his own shop. His value to others, "in my opinion" would be better served, creating more top quality mechanics like himself. Hopefully, if he retires, he will give it some thought. I mean, he's already teaching people through TH-cam, so a classroom should be easy peazy.

      My main complaint is that the battery isn't designed to be replaceable. I've got a cheaper Braun version, which uses a standard lithium battery that can swapped in like 10 seconds. I actually keep a couple on a charger so I can just swap them out for nonstop use.

    Considering the lack of rust I think it's 409 stainless. It's magnetic, isn't shiny like 304, but it takes heat pretty well and resists corrosion. My Nissan has 409 exhaust tubing but in their infinite wisdom, they used plain steel flanges and fasteners. The flange at the back by the muffler rotted out a couple years ago so I replaced it with a coupling and U clamps, but I spent a better part of New Year's weekend under my car fixing what I thought was a blown out doughnut gasket, turns out the flange rotted out and broke free from the pipe.

    No torch option is just cut the bolt, then the non-fixed flange as long as that is the one with the welded nuts - then fit a 2 piece repair flange, it gets around the lack of torch / welder especially if the flange is corroded to the point it no longer identifies as being suitable to hold your exhaust together.

    Speaking of nuts and bolts, tractor supply is my favorite place to pick up grade 8 nuts and bolts like that, much cheaper than my local hardware stores and big box stores.

    • @gungadinn
      @gungadinn ปีที่แล้ว

      Big box store stainless steel bolts are typically 18-8 stainless unless otherwise noted. 18-8 is soft and rusts just about as fast as a grade 5 bolt.
      No reason to use grade 8 bolts for exhaust work.
      I purchase boxes of bolts monthly from boltdepot. They’re about 1/3 of the prices of the big box stores.

    • @chrissmithz314
      @chrissmithz314 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gungadinn I don't know, I've had a different experience up here on the Maine coastline. 18-8 stainless steel hasn't rusted on me yet when used outdoors or under a car. I used some on a heatshield on my old subaru and while they did get dull, they were still rust-free after 3-4 winters. A clear or yellow zinc bolt would never be able to do that.
      I just said grade 8 since that's what he used in the video, and honestly they're not much more expensive when you buy grade 8 vs grade 5 by the pound at tractor supply.

Extremely bright and it can be set up for a hand wave to turn it on and off so that if your hands are dirty, you aren't grubbing up the control buttons.
