Instead of turning left at 4:32, you could have gone straight on and saved yourself some time as it would lead you to where you turned left at 5:38
I cycle from Pont to Gosforth several times a week but I stay off the roads. I use the Reivers route and the cycle paths around Great Park. Much safer.
