I'm 65 years old and I've been following these guys since their first album. Koenig reminds me of McCartney a half century ago: wide-eyed and aggressively talented. If the internet hadn't blown the music business into tiny niche-bits, Vampire Weekend could have been the Beatles of the 21st Century.
Ezra has perfected his cold steely blue eyed stare lol! It's incredible how passionate and thoughtful the music that comes from this modern vampire is!
i applaud the other guitarist's dance moves like he lightens up every performance with his crazy legs why does nobody applaud him? u go Crazy Legs Chris
+michaelatw86 yeah but you'll agree that the specific name for a bass player would be "bassist", since "guitarist" is generic - if not strictly wrong. no offence or critique was intended btw
Get where ur coming from but that’s kinda dumb. So many other heavily talented musical acts u can’t pick one. They were crazy but not exactly ground breaking like “greatest bands in history” like the Beatles
@@nathanparker2981 honestly only 12 years in and they've already produced 6 studio albums all which have been received with various amounts of critical and commercial acclaim. Not only that they have been sampled used in movies TVs soundtracks galore. And they are all still very young. Add to that the fact that three of the founding members all have side projects and solo Acts there are also well received in their own right. Besides that their songwriting and arrangements have broken barriers and genres across the board. Creating a sound that's pretty much definitive of the early 2000s in very similar way that the Beatles did with the late sixties and seventies. Give it another 20 years and I don't see why they wouldn't be. Nowadays with the Internet and streaming you have these little niche pockets of music interest vs before there were only so many channels and stations that will play your music so everybody in the country and world was basically listening to the same stuff. This would allow for any artist with mainstream appeal to blow up and sell millions of records.
I laugh at their facial expressions for no reason - Ezra looks dead inside, Baio...is anxious, Rostam is trying his best, and Tomson is living his best life playing the drums up there. I'm so sorry, everybody's different, and I'm approximately seven years late. Also, this was the first song I listened to by VW and it's still a banger! You're awesome, dudes!
Great sound!! I love that song! It's the first time I see them play "live" though.. they seemed a bit stressed, but the sound is PERFECT! Good job guys!
I adore these guys. Their music is witty, intelligent yet really light and uplifting. I never get bored of their records. Hope they'll work on a new record soon :)
This is the first song I heard. I memorized every line. I love this band just because this song. Once I heard it went of like a rocket. This is my favorite band. This is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head. After I heard this song I listened to every song. I heard every song. Every song in MVOTC. Every song in FOTB. Every song in OGWAU. And VW. Keep up the good work guys.
The Vampire Diaries season 5 ep 1 first two mins of episode..... Great song... They play this song every hour ere in Atlanta on our alternative station
There's a positive side to that also. I'm from Nicaragua and fortunately for us down south, Mtv Latin America still plays some videos. I saw the video for A-punk once and I was hooked. I remember inmdiately going on youtube to see and hear more of this awesome band.
Well, it is SNL lol. The whole band seemed to be pretty tense. Maybe it's because of critics or something. Lana Del Rey got slammed by fans and critics about 2 years ago from her bad performance on stage.
***** I'm still looking for a good live recording of this band (and this song). I like how their tracks sound on the album, but they just feel a little flat in every live recording I've heard. Anyone know if they're any good live?
Ezra's performance usually depends on his mood I mean you can clearly tell what mood he's in just by looking at the way he sings live. And the audience on SNL probably weren't fans I see a lot of older people so it makes sense that they don't feel as comfortable performing in front of people who aren't exactly supporters.
I remember watching this for the first time. I can even remember the skit that came before this: the bloody acupuncture thing. Damn now their 4th studio album is coming out. A lot of things changed.

Agreed sir!
Why do you senior citizens always feel the need to start off your comments with your age? 😂🤣😂🤣

Always got a Paul Simon vibe from him, but early McCartney fits too.

4 years later and vampire weekend is still one of my favorite bands. LOVE this song and Ezra Koenig's crazy eyes while he's singing it

Almost 1 year later and vampire weekend is still one of my favorite bands. LOVE this song and Ezra's crazy eyes while he's singing it ❤
I’ve listened to their first cd like 10,000 times literally lol
Ezra has perfected his cold steely blue eyed stare lol! It's incredible how passionate and thoughtful the music that comes from this modern vampire is!
It's amazing how the drums actually sound like I'm sitting on a train hahah
10 years later and this song still bangs🔥
rostam is so good on harmony gosh
My composition teacher Mr. Bergeron is playing the trumpet in the back! Shoutout to him! Look at him go!
Omg that’s awesome! How did he get the opportunity to be on SNL??
The instrumental solo starting at 2:41 is my favorite part of the song, so beautiful.
+Aly Dematti Probably because you're from Irish descent xD jk man
***** I'm actually Italian, lmao.
Hear, hear
i applaud the other guitarist's dance moves like he lightens up every performance with his crazy legs why does nobody applaud him? u go Crazy Legs Chris
what you're calling "other guitarist" is actually a bassist. they are a crazy kin.
+michaelatw86 yeah but you'll agree that the specific name for a bass player would be "bassist", since "guitarist" is generic - if not strictly wrong. no offence or critique was intended btw
Carlo Cattaneo im sry i called him by the wrong instrument but dont u agree that his crazy legs are indeed the most crazy
DINGO agreed
We've got Ezra, Rostam, CT and CLC
The thing I love most about Vampire Weekend is that they sound the same live as on their albums. Very rare nowadays. Great to watch!
The National is the same way. Check them out!
The Strokes?
The Shins anyone?
That's not a good thing you pleb
Why not
they really sound exactly the same live holy shit
vampire weekend should go down as one of the greatest bands in history simply because they sound so good
Get where ur coming from but that’s kinda dumb. So many other heavily talented musical acts u can’t pick one. They were crazy but not exactly ground breaking like “greatest bands in history” like the Beatles

As always, I like his face.
Hahahaha I love Rostam's face while singing it´s so freaking funny hahaha
I miss him. Not so much in the music, as I love their music both with him and without, but it just feels different without him there.
I've loved Vampire Weekend since I listened to them first in 2009, but I honestly believe this ifs their best work. Perfect album.
This performance was brought to you by J. Crew
And?
This made me laugh so much
Dudes are so precious live

when the horns come in, it just kills it... so good
Not enough bands nowadays rip into horns. They create so much drama and excitement.
holy incredible. one of the best snl performances i have ever witnessed
Agreed!
this is a hard stage to play, they nailed it, sound clear and confident
Saw their album on a end of the year list. Gave it a shot. Glad I did!
Great sound!! I love that song! It's the first time I see them play "live" though.. they seemed a bit stressed, but the sound is PERFECT! Good job guys!

my chest hurts i love vampire weekend
good music
Me encanta su musica
Ezra seems a bit nervous, he seemed alot more chill in Austin City limits. Weird.
Well, it is SNL lol.
The whole band seemed to be pretty tense. Maybe it's because of critics or something. Lana Del Rey got slammed by fans and critics about 2 years ago from her bad performance on stage.
They have to fit it into the scheduled time so if SNL is running a bit late they're going to have to speed it up a bit.
