    George couldn't bear or waste himself on stupidity and adulation, considering those "qualities" as the worst of people attitudes. That is why his quietness was misinterpreted as weakness or unconsciousness. Whenever George decided to talk his speech was rather sharp, to the point and distinguished by an intelligent and witty sense of humor. Both George and John were the two revolutionary subversives Beatles. Just recall his "classy" social commentary masterpiece : "Piggies" ..... Love you George, still miss you and John!

    • @JohnCee754
      @JohnCee754 6 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I agree with you too. That always seems to have been the myth about George Harrison -- that he was grim and humourless. "Chronically bitter" is how Philip Norman described him in the book "Shout". But all you have to do is watch film clips of George to see he had a droll sense of humour and had that classic Liverpool wit, just like the other three.

    In 1965 George introduced Paul McCartney on television during a Beatles performance and mentioned sarcastically about how "opportunity knocks" as Paul stepped up to the mic and sang Yesterday. Though George was in the biggest band in world it was not yet his time. Fast forward to August 1969 and the release of The Beatles Abbey Road album and there are 2 Harrison compositions. Here Comes The Sun and Something, both songs up to the same standards as the best Lennon/McCartney songs and finally it was his moment to shine. Harrisons talent, his humour and his wisdom will be missed. From 1965 on when you look at Harrison's pictures there was always a knowing look in his eyes when he looked at the camera as if he knew something that we were not a part of. He was a world weary man by the time he was 22 or 23 or 25.

    I have a sense of connection to George more than the other 3 Beatles. A love of guitars is certainly part of it, love of simple things like grass, flowers, trees, the beauty that surrounds us, and i am a sucker for a good melody. George's main contribution to the Beatles i think was his melodic sense. He isn't given enough credit for that. Just look at the songs on All Things Must Pass....it is a masterpiece plain and simple. Like Paul said, " The world will miss him." And we do.

    He came up with the brilliant lick in Help, which put that song out of reach for the competition; he gave And I Love Her its repeating motive, and A hard Day´s Night the wonderful ending; Nowhere Man would lack the most uplifting part without his Strat lines; and so on. He was the Beatles´ Brian Jones, responsible for the songs´ sonic flavor and tone colour, also adding a bit of world music. In the end, he not only equalled John and Paul as a songwriter: He wrote the two classics on their last album. He gave his soul to the Beatles, and I am very, very grateful for that.

    Georges contribution to the Beatles sound he was massively underrated how he learned his guitar skills while he was still a teenager is beyond me no You Tube then
    Lennon and McCartney were very fortunate to have such a talent to enhance their songs.
    As he said himself he was happy to let the two egos out the front get the glory
    You can see his musical influences in all the flats sharps and minors he gave their songs a twist that is hard to come by in modern songs
    Just the chord progressions alone in "While my guitar gently weeps" is brilliant as is Something
    He took the band in a different direction and brought Ringo in and the Beatles sound was complete
    Ringo played the song with his style of drumming and was another under rated part of the band As Ringo said "The Beatles asked me to join the band"
    Funny thing is now Georges song "Here comes the Sun is the most downloaded Beatles song on Spotify he had the last laugh
    And I loved his Rock n Roll cover like Roll over Beethoven his lead break is brilliant
    Well done George all good Irish stock of course
    The Lennon's came from County Leitrim the McCartney's from Cork and Monaghan and the Harrison's from Wexford all driven out by the mass genocide by the English in the 1800 s when millions of Irish people were starved to death, and hundreds of thousands sold as slaves or transported to places like Australia. Many more were to die on the coffin ships to america trying to escape the genocide in Ireland
    Many Irish went to Liverpool to get the boats to America but got stuck in Liverpool and its way its known as the Capital of Ireland
    Elvis Presley's family were also driven out in 1775 from County Carlow they managed to get the boat to America
    Lennon was very proud of his Irishness and was an admirer of James Connolly who was executed by the English in 1916
    Harrison made many trips to Ireland to visit his mothers family
    Yes folks the Irish invented Rock and Roll even Ringo had a bit of Irish blood in him I think from Galway

      I believe she added 'in the way' for context. Just saying 'Something' alone might have been a bit abstract and have thrown Bono, who was obviously, and understandably, working on thinking deep for his responses. The one about the melancholy of the Irish - and many in Liverpool being descendant of the Irish - was insightful. Over all, I felt that interviewer was the most savvy and articulate of them all.

    George was a great guitarist. I am not saying there was no other great players as there was and is. . But there is no other guitarist who has recorded so many memorable solos.. For me, I wish he had released three albums instead of the triple All Things Must Pass. It had a lot of the songs he wrote while in the Beatles. I feel George needed the competivness of John and Paul to create his best stuff. Look at Abbey Road. His writing there is now on a par with John and Paul. The further time past, his songs were a little less as good. (but still good if you know what I mean).. However he picked up big time when he was with the Travelling Willberrys. I am sure he was a great guy in private.

    George was a beautiful, brilliant Human being. This video missed the mark though. Yes, he was a quiet, thoughtful, soft-spoken shy Man, whose love and faith was deeply engrained He was genuine, grounded, and pragmatic, but never sad or morose. There are so many clips, videos and anecdotes that illustrate his incredible wit, warmth and wacky sense of humour. If he hadn’t been such an amazingly talented musician and composer, I bet he could have been a first rate comic.
    They repeated Paul’s statement, Why didn’t they get a reaction from George’s other friend/bandmate Richard(Ringo Starr) Starky? Was he too distraught to comment?

    I think his best work was when he started the wilburys. hell,just to get jeff , bob ,tom and roy together was something of a miracle. even though they only did two albums you could tell his inner soul had found the peace he searched for but could not attain as a beatle and was having the time of his life. seeing him happy made me happy. r.i.p. george

    In one interview, George explains that "Something" had the lyrics of "Something in the way He moves" , stating that the song was written in glorification of Lord Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, but that had he written "He" then people would have thought he was a "Poof" or a gay person. That is the hidden and inner meaning of the song that not everyone knows. Many of George's songs were inspired by his spiritual master, A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna consciousness.

    George really admired Pete Ham, the lead guy of the band Badfinger. Pete couldn't believe it. He'd always looked up to George and never could believe George would think his writing abilities and songs were any good. Badfinger was a band out of South Wales. They were called the Iveys. One song of theirs caught Paul McCartney's attention and he had them come to Apple Studios and they were the very first band to have been signed up to Apple Records. Paul had written a song for a movie called "Badfinger Boogie" and thought Badfinger would be a better name and they agreed so the name stuck. Then George liked Pete's talent so much that he produced and also played a tad bit of guitar with Pete when they recorded "Day After Day"...one of my personal favorites. George also asked Badfinger to be a part of his backup band for the Concert for Bangladesh. Pete couldn't believe he was on stage playing with someone he'd admired but Pete never knew how much George admired him. I think their personalities meshed well together. Pete was a very sweet and sensitive guy who just loved music and making people happy. For those of you who know the terrible story of Badfinger and what happened I know you get it. For those who don't you can look it up. I grew up with the 60's and 70's music and glad I did. So much fantastic music came from that era in all genres. I stuck mainly to rock, soft rock, folk, easy listening ballads, prog rock, some country, classical, old Motown, some hard rock tunes but nothing towards the dark side and pop tunes.

      Jeff Lynne (ELO) or Ringo, even Eric Clapton were very close friends of George and would be much better choices. Sadly Jeff is the only Traveling Wilbury member they did not mention in this documentary. They did not know George very well and this doc is so-so.

      Vikrant Saha he referred to Eric as his "husband-n-law" I always found that so opened minded as a teenager, I couldn't understand how you could still be friends with someone who fell in love with and then married your wife. And now I'm in my mid fifty's and in a very similar situation.

    Georges guitar playing evolved and he was quite good. His solo slide guitar work was fantastic. the Beatles didnt concentrate on indulging in long solos. They played what fit the song they were recording.

    • @albertotristanrodriguezamenedo
      @albertotristanrodriguezamenedo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes: I think that George had "solos" very much important and well playing than the rest of the members of the group: Now I'm thinking, for example, in the old "All my lovin'"...

    • @captainjim6300
      @captainjim6300 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He did little slide work with the Beatles except maybe on a song or two of his own but he did on his own stuff and even the Wilbury's really great guitar player highly underrated.

    • @billyes2216
      @billyes2216 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      His input made a lot of the songs work, like And I Love Her. Even Paul admits that the opening lick completed the song. His guitar parts are neglected. That’s where he shined.
