Building a Rain Garden - Part 1

I decided to channel the rain water from the side of my house, into a rain garden, rather than it filling a large water butt.... then overflowing!
A rain garden takes a flow of water and channels it into a series of pools and flows to slow it and allow it to be absorbed.
This is part 1, showing how it looked at the beginning and my ideas for the space as I start to put my plans into action.
