    Sprick is a superstar. Such an amazing artist! The interview was an artistic feast for the ears so thanks. I especially loved the watercolor-like beginnings comments and the comments on composition (my favorite subject). You are blessed to have access to his wisdom. You might be interested to know that Eric Rhodes is becoming more interested in watercolor and gouache. He mentioned it at PACE and how watercolor can make you a better oil painter. Hope you and family are well my friend!

      Did you enjoy PACE? I was sad to miss, especially because you were there! 🙌 That’s interesting and so great that Eric is trying to bring in more water media!
      And yes, painting with Dan is a privilege that I never take for granted! Our Denver art group is truly exceptional.
      Would love to collab again soon! 😃

    Daniel is so down to earth with a wealth of information in this video. His works speak for themselves. He is such a seasoned artist that knows what gives him inspiration and the drive to keep painting. In simple words, “quantity means quality”. The more you paint the better your painting’s will evolved to look the best and you won’t believe what you just painted. I found this out first hand after I painted like a mad woman getting ready for my first art show in 1990. I also had the amazing opportunity to meet Elaine de Kooning at her studio in the Hamptons. She was so down-to-earth like Daniel here and very inspirational. She was commissioned to do a painting of JFK when he was alive. She had those preliminary paintings of him, that looked finished, hanging like expensive area rugs in her finished basement along with many early paintings of her husband’s, William de Kooning. I liked her abstracts but her portraits were surreal. I couldn’t wait to get back to my studio to paint after talking with her. I so understand Daniel’s thought on keeping his PleinAir paintings. There are some of my paintings that hold deep memories and I will not sell them. What a GREAT interview! You asked all the right questions with such a natural casual insightful spirit. Thank you !!

    What an experienced and talented artist…laid back, calm and fun to listen to.
    PS-I picked up a paintbrush and held onto it as I watched this video…hoping I would be ready to work on my current paintings…and I did! Getting the brush in your hand is half the battle!😜 We are so lucky to get to listen to and watch these painters. Thank you for sharing.😊

    This was so interesting!! What words of wisdom! I have noticed that both the oil painters you interviewed are wearing gloves? My first painting class was in oils when I was 10 years old....a long, long, time ago and I remember always leaving class with a headache and paint all over my hands, is this a new recommendation for oil painters? Thank you, love these interviews, thank you for taking the time out of your beautiful trip to share these interviews!!!

      @deborahwinbun510 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I noticed that I was having headaches when I was first learning to paint in classes then I realized that I was holding my breath when I painted. It is fairly common for beginners to do this. Once I realized what I was doing, I began to breathe. It sounds crazy but I teach now and I notice that my students hold their breath also. I have to remind them to breathe. There are heavy metals in some paints and some not so great chemicals. If you are a messy painter, gloves may be a good thing for you. There are also barrier creams that you can wear to keep the chemicals from being absorbed into your skin.
