I didn't see where she was that great of an actress. I felt like I was supposed to be just looking at a pretty face without much emotion. The leading actresses in the white princess and The White Queen their facial expressions showed what they were thinking and feeling. They had to put fake tears running down her face just to show when she was feeling sad. I wanted to shake her and scream show some emotion instead of just sitting or standing there like you're posing for a portrait. Even when she'd smile you could barely tell any facial muscles moved. I know I sound harsh but this was just a big disappointment after looking forward to seeing it. And the ladies in waiting? I fail to understand why they even had those plotlines when there's so much more in the book to add to the show. A muslin more being portrayed when everyone knows the hatred the Spanish had of them and yet the queen entrusted one to take her beloved daughter to England? Just didn't make sense and pointless.
@@pamelaevm880 Maybe them having Muslims in the show turned you off. Where did you get your teaching degree or your history degree? I'm sure it was impossible for her staff to be Muslim. Thanks for changing my mind.
@@kentclark9740 oh no I set a lot about the show and that's just one of many things. From the clothes in the first few episodes that look like they came off at 24 century runway to explaining how the Spanish were supposed to hate them so much that they entrusted their daughter to be escorted by not just one but two. I respect most all religion and I find it very healthy for society. her mother and father hated them and drove them out of Spain so it just didn't make sense to me and I was wondering what the point was. actually back in those times it's the Catholic and not the Muslims I would despise. They're feeling of superiority and wanting to kill others who weren't Catholic is disgusting.
@@kentclark9740 I wasn't just saying that either. If there's one religion. So much murder and corruption. I'm even nowadays the teachings go against some of the things that are said in the Bible. Praying to saints? Repeating the same words over and over again repetition. Just look at what happened with bloody Mary all because she wanted everybody to convert to the one true religion Catholicism. They killed people just because they were catholic. How sick
She does angry so well though. What an actress.
Are you serious I found it hard to tell when she was experiencing any kind of emotion. And it was even more obvious the lack of acting by the wonderful acting of others on the show.

Just read an article by her where she was talking about all the emotions she was feeling while playing and then watching herself. in the interview you get the impression she thought of herself as doing a wonderful job at displaying the emotions Catherine would have had. My frustration was trying to find any kind of emotion in her face while she was portraying these emotions. To me it look like she was there to be photographed as a beautiful woman. I'm watching it for the third time and every now and then I am able to pick up some kind of emotion on her face. But even when she would smile to show happiness the rest of her face seem to stay still like it was full of Botox. Then when she tried to put tray herself as being sad or upset the only thing she did was not smile. If it wasn't for the words exchanged I wouldn't have known this actress was portraying any kind of emotion.

I wish the show kept Charlotte's natural hair, it's perfect for Catherine of Aragon. The show made her hair too red, irl Catherine has blonder hair like Charlotte's.

@@lordtorbjorn4676 Catherine didn't have dark hair. Her hair was strawberry blonde and maybe just slightly auburn. The only reason ppl think she has dark hair is because of decades of casting Catherines with black hair because directors thought it made her look more Spanish and different.

What acting? I'm watching it for the third time. The first time was a major disappointment in her portrayal as Catherine. With everything Catherine went through I expected to see some emotion on her face. The other actors were absolutely wonderful. To me she was standing there looking beautiful and that's it. a couple of times she almost smile but you couldn't tell when she was happy or sad or mad or disappointed she portrayed none of these emotions on her face. If it wasn't for the lines she spoke I wouldn't know how she felt about anyting. It was a major disappointment
@@Jo-chilin I thought the same thing what the hell was that!!!!! It was awful. Has anyone ever spoken that way. Was that supposed to be a Spanish accent? I also questioned her acting ability as it was difficult to tell if or when she was having an emotion. But that accent was really really bad. If you'd read her interview about herself betraying Catherine she obviously thinks she is an extremely wonderful actress and said she continued to carry the emotions even after filming.

I loved the show but found her extremely hyper both off and on screen. Ruairi gave wonderful facial expressions, they're both good actors but she does not do facial expressions very well, she was too intense and serious. Even in this interview she wouldn't let Rauiri get a word in🙄

I believe that happens with Anne in 1536 not Catherine.
Henry had two big head injuries within a short time frame when he was with Catherine.
In 1524, Henry was jousting and forgot to put on his visor (face shield), and his oponent hit him hard in the forehead with a lance, knocking him off his horse.
Then a year later, in 1525, he tried to pole vault over a shallow ditch filled with water. He failed to vault over it and landed head-first into the ditch.
After these two accidents, in June 1525, is when he started to become really paranoid about the lack of a son. He'd always really wanted a male heir, but it wasn't until 1525 that he became *obsessed* with the succession.
He didn't immediately consider divorcing Catherine at that time. He looked into other options like making Mary or Henry Fitzroy his heir. That's why in mid 1525, he gave Fitzroy two dukedoms and an earldom and sent Princess Mary to Ludlow castle, where heirs to the throne live.
Two years later, in 1527, is when he decided to divorce Catherine. He felt that a woman and a bastard son wouldn't be suitable monarchs and wouldn't be accepted by the people.
I think the damage caused by the head injuries had some impact on his personality and his decision to divorce Catherine. And the two accidents may have also reminded him of his mortality and made him realize that if he'd died then, there was no legitimate son to succeed him.
The head injury in 1536 possibly caused further damage

The series turned me off when it started in part 1 with Henry being fully grown when in reality, he was about 10 when Catherine first showed up in England. I knew it would warp history beyond just typical dramatic license. Btw, why does he speak English with an American accent?? I thought he's Irish.

It is not historically inaccurate that Henry had a crush on Catherine (a boyish crush) that developed into an infatuation and then eventually love. Yes, they aged him up (so it wouldn't be creepy which is a good thing), but it is a running theme amongst some historians and in historical fiction (which does take a lot of dramatic licenses) that Henry always liked Catherine/was a bit jealous of Arthur getting everything as the future king and feeling he was more deserving of everything/more suited to kingship. Catherine was included in this list of things he felt were deserved and he likely felt somewhat happy to have won her in the end (shoving it to his father and one up-ing Arthur even though they were both dead).
I don't see a woman and man with a lot of chemistry when I watch this.
He might look unbothered there but it’s mostly a short interview so don’t expect them to be all flirty.
Don’t be so pessimistic a wish them the best !

If it wasn't for the lines she was reciting that let us know what she was feeling just watching her I would never know she was having any kind of emotion. Like I said it's like she was just standing there looking pretty for her photographs to be taken. Even when she smile to betray being happy the only thing that moved on her face was her lips and they barely show to smile. Like I said watching it for the third time now and trying tobe more open-minded after my initial disappointment in the acting. So I did catch a smile now and then. I'm just so very disappointed and all the other actors were absolutely wonderful in their portrayal. It's a beautiful woman cast in a row without acting ability.

I read Charlotte's hope interview on how emotional she was playing Catherine. You could have fooled me because my biggest complaint against her was it was hard to tell she was having any kind of emotion. So many great actors on the show but I was very disappointed in the acting of Katherine. Hardly did a facial muscle move. I would have liked to have seen the emotion come through in the character. She said it was hard for her to watch because it wasn't really acting. I have to agree on the part about not acting. And I don't understand how she was overwhelmed with emotion watching herself. I'm watching it for the third time trying to find some emotion come through in the character. it made me feel like she was cast not for her acting ability but for her looks. Shake off the residue of the emotions she felt play in the character I don't know why it really look like she was there mostly posing for a picture to be taken. As a kind of Love story it was already hard enough to accept she was in love with Henry in the beginning because he was actually only 10 or 11 years old.
I think she acted beautifully and please stop saying that in real life henry was 11 when she came to england. The show is based on a fanfiction novel. Yes they kep some of the real events that happend but they also changed it bc ita based on a novel. Get a life. Just stop it.

I don't remember most of it I do remember the part where she cut the bottom of her feet so there would be blood on the sheets. Depending on who I'm talking to here it seems to have gotten confused with when I'm talking about the series or real life. And he was 10 when they met in real life and people want to tell me she was in love with him. He hadn't even reached puberty LOL I still think the actor could have brought more life into the character. Being a big fan of Gregory's books I think they did a good job in making the series.
