These came out great! I think leaving the merino/alpaca undyed was a great choice too. The color of that one is amazing. I can't wait to see these spun up.

Hi Kirsten, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️
Wow, the colours of all your Dying are awesome, amazing and beautiful.
That's a shame that some of your Polwarth, Yak blend got burnt, after all the time it took to dye and dry it.
All your fibres that you've dyed over the 3 video podcasts look amazing, awesome and beautiful. ✨️🌟
Thankyou so much for sharing your Dying process. 🎉🎉
I don't dye myself, but appreciate those that do.
    Happy Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰
    Take care and stay safe
Love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂

@@jkfiberarts Hi Kirsten, I am fairly new to Spinning, but can appreciate all the hard work that goes into making the video podcasts that are out there. It's interesting to see what different methods there are for everything Fibre related.
I can't wait to see what your finished Yarns look like. 🌟✨️
Thanks again for sharing everything you do.

OMGosh! Those colours especially the Alpaca/silk. Love, Love, Love!!! Love how you plan and use chemistry. I'm the kinda girl that wings it.

There is a fair amount of math when dyeing, especially if you want to reproduce your results. The basics are you use 1ml of 1% dye stock solution per gram of dry fiber(WOG). Low immersion is easiest. Just use enough water to cover your fiber(note your water volume) then add 10% citric acid solution 12ml per liter of water + dye stock. When you add the acid depends on how the color will strike, whether it stays put, blends or speckles. You can add 10%Glauber’s salt solution to depend/ brighten you colors.

@@jkfiberarts oh haven't used Glaubers salt. Have you done a video using it?

@@tools4ewebycarolhowe496 not yet. I was going to use it in this one, but I knew I wouldn’t have the room in my pot!

Gorgeous colors! Amazing how much thought and math that goes into the dyeing process.

The color is gorgeous.🥰 Something I’d consider if you continue to dye is using citric acid. Since it’s in powder form you just need to dissolve in a small amount of hot water.

Thanks! I do you use citric acid 10% solution. How to mix it and use it was part 1 video. Also 10% Glauber’s salt solution(optional). You still need to use about 12 cc of Citric acid solution per liter. Because I was using the high immersion technique the water to WOG IS 30-40:1. I dyed a pound and I believe around 13-14 liters water plus a couple hundred-ish cc dye stock. If I was doing low immersion it would not have required that much acid because total dye bath volume would be less. The other option is to add the crystals straight in, but I wanted the dye to take up evenly, for the most part, and I would have had a lot of crystals that would have necessitated additional stirring and I didn’t want to risk felting. The yak felts really easily. I don’t love high immersion, but it sure does give the uniform dye distribution I was looking for in these projects! Thanks for watching!
