How's it after 10 months? If you look closely you can see I've watched this video and commented my progress twice already. First time I had been officially studying for the N5 for a month and I could hear just enough to guess about half right, but I realise now that I had no idea what they were talking about. Now, I feel much more relaxed listening to this. I hope you feel the same!

Its nice to come back to videos like this and noticing that you actually improved. Learning a difficult language can feel like walking on a treadmill sometimes, but when I listened to this in 2020 I could mostly just pick out some words while it is now quite easy.
Same. It's the best feeling 😭
For anyone who is currently studying for the JLPT N5, here is a great way to practice your Reading and Listening. It covers grammar and vocabulary used in N5 level exams. You can passively listen, or actively read along with the sample sentences written in Hiragana, Katakana and Romaji and well as it's english translations.

tip for beginners: one thing that really helps you to recognise words more easily is learning their correct pitch accent when you learn vocabulary, trust me. I recommend dogens pitch accent videos if youre unsure about pitch accent.
❓l
Thank you
I wouldn’t worry about pitch accent yet. If you are a beginner it’s not very important.
In studying for the JLPT, your time would be much more effectively spent learning more vocabulary rather than pitch accent. The pay off from learning and memorising pitch accent is negligible for taking JLPT.
JLPT study is different to learning Japanese. For JLPT you study explicitly for JLPT.
For daily life in Japan you study Japanese.
Pitch accent is only worth it if you're learning it for your own personal Japanese ability and not for passing the JLPT.
yeah, as much as I love Dogen, this tip is rubbish
