I would be willing donate to a fund to get these guys to do a record with Steve Albini.. It's always been clear that it's the sound these guys have been striving for on their records. In an age where you can do anything with a computer, I really have come to appreciate the kind of no-frills approach engineers like Albini have employed. Anyway - Yeah, maybe they should have tried a different mic on the vocals to skew them a bit farther away from the guitar frequencies, but that's nit picking. This is a great record - imaginative songwriting and powerful, dynamic performances. It's good front to back. I would contest your statement that they aren't the most original band around... I don't think is a band in existence that has fused the elements they do as effectively. Bands this good don't come around often. I believe Pile's catalog will stand the test of time better than the vast majority of the hyped music coming out these days. These guys are genuine.
At first I had the same kind of lukewarm reaction to this thing, but after about 10 times through the song structures really started making sense. Dripping is one of my favorite records of all time for its killer dynamics and sense of deranged storytelling. It has some incredible builds and I love the longer more varied songs. I thought this album substituted the massive builds and falls of dripping for a more dissonant and jagged approach that I like a lot. I personally strongly like all of the songs on this record except for waking up in the morning which just kind of sounds too noodley and unfocused. The only things that I was iffy on were the fact that the vocals are fairly buried. I do think that a lot of people are missing the sarcastic wit of the lyrics because they are so low in the mix. This band has fucking awesome songs and explore themes of anxiety through awesome storytelling for me. This is an 8 for me. Good review though!

I think part two of Hot Breath, and the amazing outro really pay homage to the skill of the phenomenal single Mama's Lipstick / Special Snowflake. Unfortunately, I don't think they kept that kind of charisma all the way through. Do you think it would be beneficial if they put that single in the album? Oh, forgot, basic Needle Drop response: REVIEW NEW PURITY RING!!!
Dripping is to this day one of my favorite post hardcore albums of all time, haven't heard this one yet but I hope it retains at least a few of the flashes of brilliance that Dripping showed.

I would really like to know what you think about the new single Sagres from the Tallest man on earth? He is going to release a new album 12th of may. The new single has a band accompaniment which is a nice surprise but i still think the troubadour style is his bravura where he shines the most.
I recommend the new Funeral For A Friend album. I've been a huge fan of their music for years and i was surprised to find you had not reviewed any on their albums on your channel. Even if you don't review it i still think they're a band not only you but anyone that see's this may enjoy! Check em' out! :D
