    Wow, so sad to see..We lived in Industry, not far, went to Western Beaver HS.. My family left and moved to Canada, my dad was military ( and his family was from Monaca) My grandfather worked in a steel mill..I still have a dear friend from school who lives by wolf run rd.. she is hopefully coming up for a visit this summer.. Thanks for the video, it was awesome to see...

    This one was quite a drive, sorry for the bumpy ride ahead of time! Even with excellent camera stabilization and taking it easy as I could, those brick roads had me bouncing around like a pinball machine LOL

      Concrete roads are even worse especially when deteriorated.

      The only nice thing about Midland is that it's 5 min from the Ohio border & cheap Ohio gas!

    I found the video, it didn't take me long. It is unfortunate what happened to a lot of the towns and cities in this area when the steel mills cut back on their production and/or closed down. I guess I was fortunate to grow up in the area before things started declining. It is sad but I was glad to see that there are still well maintained properties sitting in amongst the ruins of the abandoned properties. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us, no matter how bumpy the roads may be.

      I grew up on Beaver Valley & it's nice to go back & do some shopping & admire the river scenery but it would be depressing to go back there & live !

    How sad is to see a place like this one 😔 I wish somebody can do something about it. Thank you for sharing the video with us .

      You know , people here or around the world , think that everything is beautiful in the US , that we all have plenty . Well , that is not the case . I like to see this type of videos because no one wants to show us or talk about places like this . Again , thank for what you do , showing us places like this .

    • @hoodsnhollers
      @hoodsnhollers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@mariaarias8770 I definitely want people to have their own take on it, but for me I look at these places and think of the history behind all of it and how amazing it probably was at a certain time in history. Thanks so much for watching!

    When I come back home from WV I go through Midland sometimes. I read somewhere its one of the worst places to live in Pennsylvania. Aint any box stores or much business for that matter. I think the busiest I ever seen that place was when the gas plant shifts change and the buses and trucks roll through.

    I left Ambridge in 1982. Saw the Aliquippa clip and that shocked me. But now seeing Midland and oh that makes me very very sad!

    One of the things I like about your vids is the LACK of narrative and commentary. ;-) Some of these places really are my old hoods of 40-50 years ago, so I like to just let it sink in quietly.

      @hoodsnhollers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Paul. I never really cared for the talking ones, works for some folks, i just prefer it quiet and let people get their own take on it.

    I really enjoy your video's! By the way, red brick roads might be a little rough but hold up well. I live in Buffalo, NY and the asphalt roads get huge potholes in them and cause tire damage sometimes. Asphalt just doesn't hold up. Best wishes from upstate NY!!

      @@jgrysiak6566 It was a football rival of my hometown which has fared much better. I went to a couple of drum and bugle corps shows circa 1983 and it was still a functioning town, although the mill was about done. I think it was Crucible steel.

    Sadly every state has small towns that have had the same experience. Although in decline that doesn't mean there is crime, and there are often really good people.

    One thing I’ve noticed in most of these videos is that people spend way more money on vehicles then they do on home repairs. $60,000 truck? Check. The roof in the living room? Check

    90% of the "abandoned" appearance is the lack of lawn care. Cut down the overgrowth, revive a town.

    Men most of Pittsburgh looks like that I really don't understand how can people live in those conditions they can even clean their side walk or paint their homes and they make good money working in PA some of the jobs pay very well in PA more then some other states and the city officials not doing their job either so there is no excuse people lives like that because they want to in other states the cost of living is higher and they live paycheck to paycheck and can't save money and they don't live in those conditions I see they all have nice cars but can't have nice home 😂 it doesn't make any sense.
