A great job with your cover of this awesome 1970 Vietnam War song! Thanks for skillfully recreating a song that is dear to my heart. I'm 73 and loved the music of my youth. I always try to pick out the bass lines in those songs. Thanks again!

This song came out in the fall of 1970 when my brother was in Vietnam. I sent him the lyrics as it is the story of a soldier or marine who has joyously completed his tour of duty, alive and uninjured. This song, along with Glenn Campbell's 1968 song Galveston, provides the listener with a glimpse into the life of the typical Vietnam War combat soldier. Yellow River starts off with the guy telling the FNG (Fucking New Guy) "So long boy, you can take my place, got my papers, I've got my pay. So I'll pack my bags and I'll be on my way, to Yellow River. Put my gun down, the war is won (his war), fill my glass high the time has come..." Later, the lyrics say "Cannon fire lingers in my mind. I'm so glad I'm still alive, and I've been gone for such a long time...". The only Yellow River I know of is in Georgia, but that may not be where Christie was headed in his song.

Nice one Geordie. Great work of a top 70s pop song. Yellow River released in the spring of 1970, was a No.1 at the end of May 1970. Simple bass line but great and will play this. Thanks for the notation.👍👍

There is an historical fact in the lyrics peculiar to the Vietnam soldier that caused mental problem for some. In the lyrics, Christies says "Tomorrow night you'll find me sitting underneath the moon, in Yellow River". Some guys were in firefights in Vietnam, and 30 hours later were home. this shocking change in one's life was mentally confusing for some. In no other war prior to Vietnam was this possible as the soldiers and marines flew from 'Nam to their home on a Boeing 707 or DC-8 commercial jet airliner, something not possible in the Korean War.

This has nothing to do with Vietnam, it's about The American Civil War, Jeff Christie said that himself.
