It's funny how easily people forgot how massively Aamir Khan has contributed to the concept of working in "different" films. Be it Tare Zameen par, PK, Talaash or the legendary 3 idiots, his script choices has always been fascinating. For me, an Aamir Khan film was the definition of quality indian cinema. Just because he's been fumbling a bit, doesn't mean he's done.

It's funny that even Jammy is also doing same thing with his contents what these movie producers are doing. Jammy creates more content for Pan India or big star Movies. There will be review for Teaser, trailer, Movie, spoiler review and even review for music sometimes for these movies. But for good content movies it will be just 1 movie review. Jammy does this because he gets more views for content of Pan India or Big Star movies.

The story should still be the sole deciding factor to make pan-Indian movies. Certain movies do well only in certain regions, I hope the makers realize the fact that just because the hero's previous movie was a pan-India movie doesn't necessarily have to be the same for his next one too

Mahesh Babu, during the pinnacle of his career, indeed dared to experiment with unconventional film choices( khaleja,1 nenookidine )which were unfortunately met with swift rejection from the audience. These films, now considered as cult classics in Telugu cinema, were ahead of their time. Despite their initial reception, they have earned respect and admiration over the years. It's disheartening for us Telugu audience to reflect on how Mahesh Babu's bold artistic ventures faced rejection when they deserved acclaim. Presently, there's a sense of nostalgia and regret among the audience, wishing to see him reclaim the spirit of those experimental projects. Many fans express a desire for him to break away from the routine and explore the realms of cinema that once showcased his versatility and risk-taking spirit.

The larger chunk of the audience expects just a mass film and the actors/stars are forced to do it. I blame the audience for putting the actors on a pedestal. If we treat them as actors and expect good stories, they'll have incentives to produce good content-driven movies. This is my take, especially for Telugu movies.

To be honest most of the movies like jawan or kgf or pathaan which are like the 1000 crore movies are just mediocre or bad. Its just most people in our country are interested in brainless fun instead of great quality films which also indicates why people are talking about numbers more than the quality of the film.

These were loved by people all over just for its content alone and not because of some superstar

Some of them really are afraid to test the waters because of this. Its essentially a give and take between audience and film industry. If you keep making stupid illogical movies you condition your audience to expect that and then when you make good scripted movie they may not appreciate it. Now with social media age, it doesn't help either with all these over the top promotions, glitz and glamour.. Its just has become a circus.

Tollywood and kollywood movies even before becoming pan indian movies have collected 100-200 crores which is the same target for Bollywood. Also, post Salaar. Prabhas will create a global Rampage with Kalki 2989 AD. This movie will set a benchmark in sci fi movies made in India henceforth and the world will realise the capability of Indian Makers.
After that will be a mass family entertainer Raja Deluxe starring Prabhas and Sanjay Dutt in negative role. It will be a proper mass commercial and Prabhas will be seen in his proper mass avatar, dance, fights and comedy.

Your idea of 'alternating movies with one that's budgeted well n one for the masses' is interesting. Rajinikanth had this in motion way back in the 90s where he consciously followed up a huge hit with an immediate small budget film. Examples include a rom-com in 'Veera' after the massy 'Annamalai'; then following up with another biggie in 'Baasha' then after that he dialed it down a bit in 'Muthu'. His logic was that one needs to come down the roller coaster before going up again to ride the hype wave. We can't keep going higher n higher the hype wave as we'll fall short of expectations. Maybe today's "pan-Indian" stars can pick something up from this history.

In my opinion, Fan and Raees are better movies than Pathaan and Jawan but Fan and Raees failed at the box office while Pathaan and Jawan was a huge success at the box office... and the sad and weird part is that after 10 years people will say "Pathaan and Jawan was routine mass masala films in SRK's career, but Fan and Raees were cult classics like Swades and Dil Se that failed at the box office. The disgusting thing is that people don't watch movies with good content when released and at the same time they watch routine mass masala movies rather than content movies, then why after 8 or 10 years they praise good movies that they never watched once and trash bad movies that they once watched again and again than good movies. Tamil Cinema has a massive overseas market, unrivalled by any other Indian film Industry. Maybe that's the reason performances in Hindi market did not really affect them. Just give you an example, most big budget Tamil films debut at No. 1 in Malaysian box office. In contrast, Animal debut at No. 10 and disappeared totally on the 2nd week. This is not the case with Telugu Cinema, where success in Hindi market is necessary for box office numbers, as they have very limited market outside of India.
