Hello.I agree with oil film and viscosity of oil. But. We are here talking about engine flushing not driving the car with diesel instead of engine oil. To understand all I will break down the problem. When your engine dont work you DONT have the oil film ( only some oil leftover) when you start your engine the low oil pressure lamp does off but to build the nessesary oil pressure it takes time ( depend on engine temp, outside temp ect) so basically you dont have that oil film and your engine is working. The second thing is when you do oil flush you only start the engine and let it work for few minutes on low rev. When the engine is working on low rev you dont have the stress on components like when you are driving around. So you dont need so much oil film.So by mine opinion its absolutely safe to flush the engine .

The best way to flush is to buy the cheapest oil you buy and run it for about a week then change the oil again

I just rebuilt my TD42 engine due to severe blow by. During the engine assembly process, the mechanic needs to apply good quality oil on the engine components. The thin layer of lubricant is very important for the initial start up. I rather use good quality engine oil and fuel to reduce carbon built up on my new engine. If possible, every 5000km change engine oil.

A remarkably bad idea. Anybody who recommends this should be ignored completely forever

My co-worker added diesel to flush the diesel engine but end up with a runaway engine. Luckily he blocked the intake fast enough to stop the engine.

Hi... what would you say about adding 200ml of Diesel to existing engine oil and idle for 5mins before draining oil for new oil replacement? Thank you for your videos!

Don't do it. You will have a runaway engine.

Diesel is probably no worse than any flushing liquid. I wouldn't use any. But if you want to screw up your engine, it's cheaper to screw it up with diesel

Thanks again for some imformative info.
I have a question, I had my oil and filter changed... whilst i was getting my breaks and break fluid changed!
Since getting the oil and filter changed, I have had on start up a slightly higher engine noise for say 5 seconds and then it drops back to normal, I have never had this before after I have changed my own oil and never had this start up noise at any time. It's almost like the engine is making noise pumping oil around and then settles... any ideas?
I know the Garage was a man down that day after guy hadnt turned up for work.
I hadnt changed my filter and full sinthetic for like 10 thousand miles before this and i'm doutful he changed the filter which is more awkward up behind the engine from underneath and because I had also asked the guy to check a bolt which has rusted out on the exghaust under the manifold and when I collected the car and asked him whether he could cut it off and change it he said he hadnt noticed any bolt? But it was right in plane sight when I changed my own oil and filter whilst lay on the ground🤔 Would an old oil filter left on or maybe even a slightly wrong oil weight they may have put it cause this issue?
I did ask them to check the bolt when booking car in and on the day I dropped car off I reminded them to have a gander at the bolt. I just cant make headway when something dosnt make sense!
Many thanks again for your time.

@@stephenmaas8775 Depending on how the oil filter is mounted, it could be that they replaced it with a filter that doesn't have an anti-drainback valve or has one that does not work. If the filter is mounted under the car vertically, then this wouldn't be a problem and you can ignore what I just said.
Other possibilities could be that they use a thinner oil than is called for.

diesel is self lubricating though. this property is exploited in injector pumps so that they don't seize, as they would on other fuels. i certainly wouldn't run an engine with diesel in the oil, but i think steeping the entire engine in it could work, but also has the potential to release carbon sludge clumps that cause oil starvation. If you left the engine steeping for a month or longer i think it is sufficiently long to break up all clumps.

I just bought a seconhand toyota fortuner model 2012 d4d diesel engine with lost user manual, what type of engine oil does it uses based on its manual and can you recommend best type of engine oil for it coz its already a 12 years old vehicle.

    • @MrDIYer
      @MrDIYer  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

If that vehicle has always been using toyota motor oil then id suggest you stick to that, fyi toyota motor oil is manufactured by mobil. As far as im concern Its not really the brand that matters but rather the viscosity.

You add the diesel to the exist oil you are planning to remove so you will still have some viscosity there, plus you are just idling, an engine that gets damaged by that was already damaged, it's just making noise cause the junk that was in it has been removed

It's also called cylinder wash down; when fuel leaks into the combustion chamber and evaporates the oil film in the cylinder walls.
