I recently purchased Pio and watched 2 or 3 other videos, but couldn't figure out how to use it effectively. This video is a gold mine of information and application. The presenter is a gifted teacher, who presents the information in a logical, concise, and practical way. I ran the same hand simulation he used in the video and followed along by stopping the video periodically, taking notes and navigating my own sim on Pio. His sim took 30 minutes to run on my computer to a .5% frequency. My results were slightly different because my stopping point was below .5% but not quite the .4462% of his.

Wow, amazing content! I actually installed the free version of Pio yesterday to play around with it and watched a lot of tutorials... This is by far the best I've seen. Thanks a lot for the time and effort you put into this!
Hi, at 28:25 you show how to take notes. Could you please, make a video to explain how you do it ? Or just explain your way to do, the meaning of your codification etc. Thanks for all your work.
Is pio better then monker for nlhe? I play mostly plo and already use monker. I wanted to do some studying on nlhe mtts tho. Great vid and great channel.
Thanks. I've only played with monker for a bit so can't really give an educated opinion, but from my research pio has better support and is more user friendly whereas monker is more versatile (e.g. you can do multiway).
Which specific PIO are you demonstrating? If it is not BASIC, do you think the BASIC version is not a good investment? Or would BASIC be a good value for a relatively inexperienced player?
Question, I used the same inputs as you did. but for some reason, the solver is providing different results. I'm also only filling the inputs in the flop and turn as my computer doesn't have enough memory for the river. In this example, IP decision is saying AKss should be betting pot size 19 % of the time , betting half 17 percent of the time and betting 3 only 32 % of the time while checking 30 %. I also noticed that EV+ strategy has equal distribution across the entire range.
How to understand EV of each hand? For example pot 5bb, and 65s EV is 0.7bb. Does it mean 65s wins 0.7bb every times its played? 0.7bb + what ive invested preflop? Or EV must be bigger than investment preflop to make it profitable?
You can’t use a solver in real-time, it’s used to analyze hands after they have been played. So you should be fine using this as it’s not providing assistance while in hand
When considering the overall strategy of the out of position player, does it really matter much which bet sizing you choose decide to respond to from the in position player? Like 50% vs 66% vs something else? Will it change your strategy much? Or is there a solid best bet sizing to choose from when considering evaluating the strategy of the OOP player on say the Flop and what hands they should be Calling with and x/raising with etc?
How does it calculate the frequencies? Is it taking all the profitable outcomes/trees and seeing what proportion of winnings sit in 'check', 'bet 50%', etc? If so, why do players occasionally choose the low frequency strategies, when they don't know which tree/hand they're facing? E.g. if it said bet 1/2 pot 90% and fold 10%, why would you 'roll a number' and fold 10% of the time instead of always betting 1/2 pot in the absence of other information (since that 10% of the time would not be random from the solver's perspective but when you're up against a specific 10% of situations that hero can't know). Either I don't know how it's calculating the frequencies or I need to understand conceptually why you'd not run with a single strategy for a given holding based on the most profitable outcomes (in cases where there is a clear winner). I suspect it's to do with not being exploitable but then is it better to play the frequencies for the holding or the overall strategy for the range? It comes back to my original question: what's the frequency based on / how is it calculated?
Great video, covers all the information needed in a logical way to start out. Just one question: In your personal analyzation chart you have in the blue area the number of nuttish holdings for each play. What does the OP+, OP and TP mean. I guess OP stands for one pair, but what does TP mean?
Hi. Great video and some great information thank you, i do however have a question, and it's quite vague in the sense that it's obviously going to depend on certain factors etc. But how does Piosolver solve for correct bet sizing? is this mostly stack size dependent?(e.g. betting a value hand for a certain sizing to setup a river jam etc) or is this calculated mostly on risk/reward ? in the example in this video it says betting half pot is better than anything else, i would just like to know why it's come up with that choice. Thanks.
The short answer I think is noone knows because the solver doesn't actually think or have strategies. However, if we try to emulate what the solver is doing based on its patterns, generally each strategy is influenced by a number of factors, including stack size. IMO the biggest factor will be overall ranges. For a larger bet, generally the better will need a stronger range advantage but at the same time, the caller will need to have a range that connects significantly with the board. And this is a sliding scale which is also influenced by other factors.
@@FindingEquilibrium yeah i figured this was the case, the fact that in theory the bigger we size our bets the stronger a hand that we need on a certain board. Because the ranges are wide we are choosing a sizing that best fits our overall range and the board texture. makes sense thanks for your response! :)
Is PIO constrained to only cash games and tourney spots with low ICM implications? Or is there a way to impute some ICM pressure and maximize $EV instead of chip EV?
If I know I'm going to use 1 size on the flop should I run the sim with 3 sizes or only 1? For example on certain boards pio might like to split 2+ sizes but I'm planning on playing with only 1 sizing. However, when I rerun the sim with the most preferred sizing I tend to get weird outputs. Like if I use a 1/3 sizing only it tends to just tell me to bet my entire range on almost every board. Currently I just started putting 3 sizes and picking the one that pio prefers the most but I'm not sure if thats accurate if I don't plan on using the other sizes. The sim does seem to be more accurate when I do that though mixing in a lot more checks which seems to make more sense to me.
Can I get away with 0.25% accuracy on the flop (deep SRP)? What are your recommended benchmarks for minimum flop, turn and river accuracy? Many thanks for any help
How do you pause when running a script? I know how to pause when running a single hand on the main screen, but I dont know how to pause the script being ran when its that black screen.
I tried a spot where I called a 3bet in the small blind and it was telling me to donk the flop with a lot of hands which seems wrong. I realized that I hadn't told Pio that I the BB was the aggressor preflop but I can't seem to find a way to do that. Is there a way to do that?
