After some research I believe this performance was based on Jeanne Frances and Jerry Grey's earlier Snake Dance. The snake costume is the same and they use the same Debussy music. Jeanne Frances and Jerry Grey were a married couple who performed together for many years. Jeanne was known as the "Limberest Girl in the World" and appeared in several movies. Jerry passed away in 1954, which is the year this video came out and Jeanne passed away in 1980. I agree, this performance by Janine Janik and Christian Arnaut is exquisite and thanks to them this incredible art piece has been preserved.
Love it,reptile imitation & costume superb, wish there were more of the old variety acts about, remember seeing a very realistic frog in a well act years ago that was brill to.
I used to watch this act when I was 5 years old. They used to appear on variety shows if I remember correctly. It left such a great impression on me that almost after 40 years I decided I better find them, again, and here they are. Thank you for uploading this!
Wow if anyone's heard Amiboshi's flute song that rips souls apart in the anime Fushigi Yuugi...well are you freaking out as much as I am? AMAZING didn't mean to even end up here at 4:12am mid corona pandemic.
@kaspienne This act retired in 1961, but i saw an act on the Tonight Show With Johnny Carson around 1977 that was basicly the same. That was probanbly the act you remember. I never did find out their names, I have always wondered who they were.
Thanks a lot SpaceComics for this "little think" who is a big part of me... snake and charmer are my parents. I didn't know this video( very good quality, It's amazing ) ;-)
A truly outstanding act! Thank you very much for posting it! I have two technical questions. i) Where did you take the source? ii) What was its original resolution?
we remember seeing them more than once on live TV in 50s, doing this act. The flute music is hypnotic.
Unbelievable Beautiful. And whoever designed that snake unitard- wow

That is the most amazing piece of artistry and athleticism rolled into one ever. And it was on a Christmas Special! Just incredible. Bravo.
Fantastic! I have never seen anyone do such a convincing reptile imitation. Her costume was great too. Her partner, he was supportive. :-)
