So if you need 2 power feeds from your car to your van for charging batteries and running a fridge would it be better just to run 2 separate Anderson plugs ??

      Thanks for your comment!
Each van manufacturer has different specifications for the wiring of their 12-pin to suit 3-way fridges.
Anderson plugs are a more reliable connection and running 1x Anderson for battery charge & 1x Anderson for fridge power is a reliable way to do it but may require modification of the factory wiring.

@@accelerateoffgridtouring no problem, my new Jayco swan uses pin 8 on the 12 pin plug to charge the battery and an Anderson plug to run the 3 way fridge, seem a bit backwards to me, be good to know your thoughts , appreciate the reply 👍

I own a 2015 Ford Ranger and tow an imperial caravan the 12 pin plug as wired by the ford dealer has pin 9 as the hot pin, ie full time 12 volts and pin 8 power available with motor running. The caravan dealer connected plug has pin 9 as the fridge supply is this correct? to confuse the issue my wifes new MUX has pin 8 as the hot wire.

We always get caravan wiring diagrams from manufactures before we wire up a 12pin plug as they are all different. You will need to match the vehicles to the caravan you are towing.

What I dont get is.... you say (i think) you upgrade the charge cable from the alternator to a 6mm cable to the 12 pin socket and that fixes the over heating... but the cable to the trailor through the 12 pin plug is only very light cable about 1mm. So doesnt this mean that no matter how large the charge cable is... the small feed wires going to the caravan can only take a small amount of charge anyway... because of their small gauge?

      @@kevlec1947 Hey Kev,
so can I also take a seperate 6mm cable from that same Anderson plug to my fridge? Or should I have a seperate A-Plug for that? The reason I ask is because when I switch from electricity to battery when travelling... the DC power does not seem enough to keep the fridge cold.

Is it obvious just by looking at the 12 pin plug that it has melted? What am I to look for to indicate it has melted? I'm buying a 2nd hand van and want to make sure this hasn't already happened to the previous owner.

Yes! Generally you can see signs of melted plastic in the car socket or discolouration on the pins on the Van plug.

Your video title suggest there is a fault with the plug when in fact the fault is with the way its been used. That said the solution is the way to go.
