It's petty Jenn today but it's necessary! Extreme hair growth isn't a thing. Am I the only now who is simple sick of where the natural hair scene is right now where it is ALL ABOUT GROWTH RECIPES. I said it before and will say it again, if it is too good to the true, then it probably is.

I have really long hair. People ask how I did it.
Me: Nothing special. Just my genes😂. My mum’s side of the family have thick long hair.
My job is to keep it healthy and get regular trims.
One of my daughters has thick long 4C hair too. It’s just our genes people!

I don't think it's genetic, anyone can have long hair. Just don't do the most with your hair (stick with just wash, condition, moisturize), stop using tight wigs, weaves, extentions that pull out your hair and damage your follicles (there's not such thing as a "protective style."). Bam. You will have long hair if you desire. Not over night!!! That won't happen.

I work in a health store. Every day, women come in and ask what oil grows the hair or they saw somebody on TH-cam said this will work and "grow your hair like crazy." I ask them what their hair practices are, what are they eating, etc. Again and again, it comes out that overall health is secondary to hair growth. I have to explain to them that the body is going to focus on the major things first. How can it focus on hair if it is trying to beat your heart, pump your blood, make your brain function, filter out toxins, etc?
They would be better off concentrating on their blood circulation and joint health because I noticed many joint health supplements would affect hair skin and nails. Collagen, bamboo, hyaluronic acid, MSM, are in a lot of joint supplements but also help with the hair, skin, and nails. They think they can just put an oil and call it a day. That's only one part of it.
A lot of them aren't growing their hair because they are treating it like an unwanted orphan baby. They are ripping through it with combs, overly heating it, overly dyeing it. Or if they are doing that, trying to force their hair into a certain curl pattern or texture, overdoing it with wash-and-go styles or piles and piles of curl enhancers. Or they are calling their own hair terrible names. They have dietary practices that hurt the hair: too much drinking, too much smoking, and too much medication. Or the people in their lives are causing them stress.
Does a baby grow to full size overnight? Does an acorn instantaneously turn into an oak? No, everything has its pattern and timing. Some things cannot be rushed or slowed down. Focus on physical health and use gentle self-care and the hair will thrive. Most hair wants consistency, like a child. It doesn't want to be hopping from extreme to extreme. I wish they would love their hair in all of its phases...

They need to come into a health store to acquire knowledge and products to be healthy. That's what I have done for at least 30 years. Unfortunately, they want a quick fix that doesn't exist. But there is no shortage of them buying "hair" in beauty supply stores.

    • @pageturningpriestess2859
      @pageturningpriestess2859 ปีที่แล้ว +31

@@deva190 I used to work in a beauty supply store too, but only for three months. It was absolutely horrendous. Everyone was being poisoned. I didn't even use the products in there and became sick from inhaling the fumes. People would steal the hair. I wasn't even upset when they took the hair because the hair was emitting its own fumes as well. A lot of the customers there were ill. Everyone was balding, even the children. One lady had lost 95% of her hair from sew-ins but she couldn't stop buying them. I suggested a wig to her only because I believed it would prevent her from further damaging the hair. She didn't want it though because "it is too hot outside." Women were coming in with all sorts of conditions: breast cancer, high blood pressure, fibroids, etc. My co-workers looked decades older too. I think the chemicals in the products played a part in it, in addition to diet

As far as the hair products, like conditioner, shampoo, etc., I never buy them from these types of stores because I believed they were fake.

@@JennJackson no problem. I do use a good DIY every wash day, but it's dependent upon the ingredients and how they work for me and my hair if I'll even try it. My goal is healthy hair, and longer hair has been a by-product of it because I'm consistent with a routine and have cracked the code for the moisture protein balance for my hair. So I don't believe the hyped up "products/ingredients of the month", sometimes week, because I know what works to retain length for me as well as moisture and that's what you want in order to grow your hair longer. I don't necessarily subscribe to everything you've said, but that's because I know what works for me and I know how to use the ingredients for the benefit of my hair. But I will never stand by and watch someone's face literally be used to deceive other for financial benefit. Because let's be honest: these channels are making good money preying on the insecurities of BW when it comes to the length of their hair.

We have to start taking the time to learn our own specific head of hair. We learn what works for others and then it ends up not working for us and it just makes the hair journey that much more unpleasant.
I’ve learned that true 4C hair wants moisture and to be left to it’s own devices. When I took that route I’ve had the most growth and retention… I’m sure getting sister locs has also helped

I get so fed up whenever I see those types of videos, I don’t even click on them. It is extremely fraudulent and deceiving to people who don’t (but should) know any better. I knew the creator as soon as I saw the thumbnail because she comes up on my recommended every day. She’s since changed the thumbnail so she’s no longer using your likeness though 😂
I feel like every year there is a crazy natural hair fad that people jump on for the sake of long hair, and I honestly just find it pathetic (for lack of a better word). 2020 was rice water, 2021 was onion juice, now 2022 is clove water. People are so obsessed over finding the perfect magic product that will grow their hair, but are not focusing on techniques and products that will help with the *health* of their hair. If your hair is healthy, it will grow. Simple.

Influencers have started hair care lines off products they never used to get the tailbone length hair. They used simple regimens and very affordable hair products some spending less than $20. Hair products now come in 8oz and you pay $25-$30 only for it to last 2 wash days. They attack the psyche by saying if you don’t buy these products you won’t have long hair but they didn’t even used the products they sell! The problem is the hair community, not just people with straight hair. Hair health has become a franchise and has robbed all of our bank accounts.

We are not to feel shame for being injured self state. We have to begin our healing with one truth at a time.

Yes, without a doubt those companies and creators are ruthless and unethical. Ultimately it is up to us as viewers to weed out this stuff. There are enough long-haired ladies who actually grew their hair, and tell their viewers the truth and their channels don't have the numbers. Why? The problem is too many of us don't want to hear the fact that it may take four plus years to get to waist length and six or more years to tailbone length and there is no magic potion. If someone has alopecia it's best to seek out the help of a board-certified dermatologist.

It's always the 2-year mark photos that took me out. Honestly these videos though I didn't click on them the thumbnails really affected how realistically I saw my hair after certain time frames, from 6 months to 1 year to 2 year. Something as well to note is that also some of these women their hair was long but their shrinkage was really tight so it also only added to why I thought some people's hair grew really fast and I was like what's up with my hair. Also GENETICS some peoples genetics make it easier not necessarily to take care of their hair but for it to stand up against normal factors like caring for the hair, styling and environment. Whew grateful to know more so I can have more grace on myself and acceptance.
