The band B Sides of the Beast and their singer Raphael Mendes ‪@RaphaelMendesOfficial‬ cover one of my favorite and most epic songs from Iron Maiden’s album, PowerSlave. Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a song based on the story by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. This turns out to be one of the best covers of an Iron Maiden song that I have ever heard. If you enjoy our video please like the video and subscribe to our channel. If you have any suggestions for artists you would like to see us react to, please post it in the comments section.
Here is a link to the actually video we just reacted to cover of ‪@ironmaiden‬ - The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Rafael Mendes is incredible, on his channel he has a playlist called "What if Bruce Dickinson sang for" putting vocal power in the most iconic bands.

Just like you I'am a big Iron Maiden fan. I discovered also Raphael and just like you I was flabbergasted, never heard someone which voice is so close to Bruce. If I heard it with closed eyes I would believe it was Bruce. Although he is Brazilian he even sing some words with an English accent. Another great cover is from Machine Head, Hallowed be thy name, they turn it in a thrash version. I'm going to see Maiden in July in Amsterdam with the new tour, I can't wait. I've seen them also many times. Up the Irons from the Netherlands, Erwin.

This was 7 months ago, but I just heard and watched it today. Sorry for your loss. I know the pain, and the emptiness of someone missing in your life is still fresh and real. Understandable to feel melancholy, and that desperate need to feel lifted up with music that is meaningful to you. 💝
I was impressed, but also disappointed for the same reasons you were. I appreciate you and the effort you put into admiring this great music we love. Thanks, buddy. 🤘😊💖

Condolences on your loss of a friend.
Very well done. He's a great vocalist. I prefer interpretative covers of songs (which I consider to be the greatest element) instead of bands. I think the best Maiden cover is Melanie Mau and Martin Shnella's Wasted Years with Johan Hallgren from Pain Of Salvation lending a great guitar solo.
For my money, the best cover ever made is Tuck and Patti's cover of Castles Made of Sand/Little Wing. Really shows that the main thing we lost when Hendrix left us was his great song writing.
Scary Pockets is a treasure trove of great covers. Sweet Child of Mine, You Shook Me All Night Long, Walk This Way, Wonderwall....

    • @flickeringboxofficial
      @flickeringboxofficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thank you Randy and I will add your suggestions to the list. I think we are on the same page, I love when an artist takes a song and give it a different composition but still manages to retain the heart and soul of the original. That is such a fine line to walk. As for this cover, I just appreciate the very similar sound in the vocals which is so amazing and quality of their remake.

Aside from the vocals being otherworldly (think Dickinson in a parallel universe), and the drumming which is also just spot on… the Steve Harris Basslines are unreal!! The reverb, that galloping rhythm, are just so trademark. The guitarist is obviously talented, but when the rest of the cover was almost spot on, his improvisation & taking liberties with Adrian Smith’s playing was certainly baffling, because he sounded good enough to donut correctly.
I’m thinking that POSSSIBLY because the spoken word portion during that breakdown, is actually a pre-recorded track, (many legendary British actors/personalities have done audio versions of the entire poem, Richard Burton for instance) directly quoted from the Samuel Taylor Coleridge original poem, there may have been Trademark or Cooyright regulations that prevented the band here from acquiring the rights. That is pure speculation on my part, but I figured, what the hell it’s as plausible as any other possibility. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

You should give Chez Kane a try, she is a Welsh rocker that makes music that sounds like the 80's. She has released 2 albums Chez Kane (2021) and Powerzone (2022), both recent but could have been recorded between 1984 - 1989 as they have that sound (when music was great). Both albums have 10 songs on each.
My favourite songs of hers are;-
Rocket on the Radio (from her debut album Chez Kane (2021).
Rock You Up (from Powerzone 2022).
Children of Tomorrow Gone (from Powerzone 2022).
Chez Kane has a TH-cam channel. Check them out, if you like 80's style rock you will not be disappointed.

He's very similar to bruce with all the right style and mannerisms but i could pick him out from the real bruce. There's something a little different in the tone. Messing around with a lot of the solo changed the feel of the song for anyone who knows it well, some original runs and bits were there to hold it together. It was a lot like the led zeppelin kennedy center performance. Ann Wilson did such a great job on Stairway, the choir, all that..but the guitar player changed the solo that nobody wants changed.

Depends on the country, and the compatibility of the language, if you speak chinese the way to pronounce things and the movement of the tongue is diferent so they have to adapt,,, me as a portuguese...scandinavian, denmark or netherlands people it's easier to speak english and also catch the pronouncement of the region...and also the level of english or american culture in those countries and how english is essential in school to later in life, for traveling or work... Gabriel Henrique a great voice from Brazil also have bad english, and i bet he just imitates the sound and dont know proper english,,, 90% of people in brazil dont, the english is horrible..so depends..

This guy sounds just like Bruce or he was lip syncing. Creepy. Have to hear him singing something not Iron Maiden.

I did just that...he actually sounds like Bruce if he is singing Mary had a little lamb. Everyone has a vocal doppelganger somewhere :)

Yeah, you are completely wrong. The point is not to make a cover exact it’s to make it your own unless you’re a useless copycat musician
