I currently drive a 2003 cooper s, and I love it! never had a problem! The loud fan you hear on this particular car is only supposed to come on when extra cooling is needed for the engine. Maybe because its hot out in the video? I live in Canada so Ii have only heard this fan come on the odd time in the summer and only for about a minute. I get a smile everytime I step on the gas and hear that supercharger wine!
I think it was worth mention, even though it's such a minor thing, that if you hold down the "Unlock" button (Mini Emblem) on the key fob, it would open the sun roof and roll down all of the windows. I think it's a nice touch, and could come in handy in the summers if the car gets warm (i.e. you could crack a window and cool it down a bit).
@@hehe2352They do indeed; we ordered our R53 Cooper S at time of announcement and took delivery in 2002 for MY 2003. We’ve had it now for just shy of 20 years and 60,000 miles, and yes, it does indeed do this. For the many I’ve interacted with in the community and in the industry (I work in the automotive world), most of them do this as well
Great looking car, I love the color. I just worked on one that like it. But I have to say, it sounds like this car has a few mechanical problems common in this year and for this mileage. Loud fan - the low speed resistor is out so the fan can only run in high speed. Loud engine ticking - chain tensioner or hydraulic lash adjusters are worn. Stiff clutch - They start out easy and get stiff as they wear. The stiffness goes away when you change the clutch. Probably needs shocks and front control arm bushings by now. Other than that, it's probably in great shape - real solid motors in these cars, but they do leak a lot. (but that can be fixed) But it's worth it - they are a lot of fun!
hi, my frnd is planning to buy the same car. it seems the car has same issues you mentioned in your comment. In your expert opinion, what much does the car worth now and how much do you think it will cost to get it fix the above issues.
You might want to add that there is a button on the left handle (the one you toggle for your indicators) that when pressed, can change the digital screen from temperature meter to the counter of miles. It's interesting to know that, because not everyone is fond of the big round speedo in the center and it's also handy since the digital screen is right behind your wheel so you don't have to look right to see how fast you're going :)
@IMAPOWN my 03' cooper s had a recall because of inop powersteering fan, it was covered by warranty though. In general they are quite expensive to fix, make sure the current tires are run flats!
Just bought a 2004 R53 from "Unique Classic Cars" in Mankato, MN. Same "Electric Blue" color and same white top, wheels, and mirror covers. Not a huge fan of those. I will probably swap out the white wheels and I'll cover the mirror caps with a "Black Jack". Car has 15,000 miles on it and has an outstanding recall item for the hydraulic steering assembly so I'll be heading to the nearest MINI dealership soon after taking delivery which I hope will be next weekend.
@saabkyle04 i can totally see why you sold it so quickly. It's a very nice looking as well as fun car to drive. And by the way who cares about little chip which you can hardly see. Oh and nice vid as always. Thank you. Keep up the good work
One of my grandpas friends has a 2003 Mini Cooper it needs some work done to it for example The driver door window needs to be fixed the engine rattles when you start it up nothing major a little bit of work and she will be good has new i will also get to go for a ride
From wat I've been reading the cooper is reliable however 2002-2004 have a real bad coolant issue and it will destroy the engine if it hadn't been taken care of prior , but the 2005 and up had that taken care of , I really want a cooper S in British racing green !!
That's BOLLOCKS the engine is bulletproof. You just need to service it properly and check your engine levels everyday as everyone should do for any vehicle if they have any knowledge and not just a big mouth. POWER. Petrol Oil Water Electrics Rubber.
Since everyone is asking stuff like " what did he trade it for?" I will answer this. Kyle answered me on a different video about it. He said "@GalenMacziewski95 no he bought a 4Runner from us, will probably do a vid on it eventually" If you want to double check on this go to the "Welcome To Car Connections..." video. He replied me there.
@TheS13freak The superchargers are only said to last about 100K between rebuilds/replacement. Perhaps people don't want to pay for that expense and rather than have the car break down, they transfer the problem to the next owner.

The button under the handbrake is not traction , it's the tyre pressure reset switch for the monitoring system.

Drive without music or phone connection concentrate on your driving and listen to that supercharger.
Hey Kyle just wandering what did your friend get to replace the mini, since it's already a pretty fun to drive car?
I became a fan of the Mini once i saw the movie, " The Italian Job"
I love that blue :)
Very nice
Stiff clutch means that clutch needs to be replaced soon
No it doesn't. THEY are like that from the factory,
@@equaliser2265 It depends how stiff it is.
They always have been like that.

@saabkyle04 did it have plates on while driving it
very nice blue car;)
should i buy one with 200,000 miles? its a 04 turbo cooper s. idk if they had good reviews and if they are reliable
If it’s an 04 it’s Supercharged. The Turbo Mini didn’t start until 07🤙🏼... yea I’m 6 years late commenting 😂🤷♂️
Does it have an aux?
How much are these worth and are there automatic versions
a 2003 Cooper S with a good amount of miles will cost roughly $4k-$8 and they do make Auto Cooper S's but they're extremely rare in older models
Nick Nana DONT get the automatic, FILLED WITH PROBLEMS!
May I ask what car did your friend traded it for?
what did he trade it in on?
