    Hope somebody knows the difference between the words "Autotune" and "HardTune! 🙄
    Autotune - is post performance recording tweaks on vocals with the aim of correcting pitch etc.
    Hardtune- is a peri-live vocal effects which includes "autotune" sounding robotic hardtuned reverb (also called T-Pain or Cher effect) among others i.e. TC Helicon Voice Live
    You seem to imply that the whole song was autotuned. FYI, the Hardtune (which you called autotune 🤣) on the INTRO is a creative embellishment for artistic purpose. It was superimposed (that is why it is "too obvious") to catch audience attention. The rest of the song is normal voice. I don't know if you realized that? Oh Well...
    Ciao! 🙄

      Thanks for setting this guy straight. I hope he learns to refine his musical knowledge, so that it isn't intended to find fault in an artist's contribution. I sure hope he regrets that unflattering comment.

    I couldn't disagree with you more about the use of the autotune/talkbox. I freaking love it. She's not using it because she needs it, she's using it as artistic license. Her voice is amazing. I understand why some people might automatically discredit her for using the effect but she's not trying to mask a weak voice with it....she's using it artistically and creatively..and only in the beginning of the song. Check out two other performances of hers to see what her voice can do: Her singing The Hurts You Never Knew on Singer 2018 th-cam.com/video/V7CX7AHgLjg/w-d-xo.html and Roses on Myx: th-cam.com/video/e22eipdHbd0/w-d-xo.html

      That's fine. It's down to personal taste.

      @lezgowtodabitz9026 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I like that he is being honest about his thoughts of using auto tune. Only shows that he is really authentic of his reactions. Its just that he took the autotune effect negtively rather than seeing it as an art form to modernize the song and to give it a new taste. T pain uses autotune most on most of his tracks that makes the song interesting. But i guess there are still people who preffered natural voice. Sad, yes but not mad. Still a loyal sub though

      I don't like it also. That autotune is very robotic and not very pleasant.

    • @JaroldEgan
      @JaroldEgan 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Guys, you don't need to keep explaining why she used auto-tune. He understood that. As he mentioned, "It's down to personal taste."
      If I prefer Android over iOS, I don't want people to keep telling me that iOS is much better. I just prefer what Android has over iOS (Not that it's true. I have both iOS and Android. I'm just making an analogy) That should be the end of it. You must agree to just disagree.

    • @wsq0056

      I totally disagree with this guy! that's what KZ separate from singer to artist!!! That intro is fucking unbelievable even TPAIN will get jealous....I guess you can't pls. everybody.

  • @leroyusa935
    @leroyusa935 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Her intro was to transport you into her musical journey. I thought she used it with the intention of that initial 'wow factor'. Very creative and mind blowing. Her fans know her singing abilities. I consider her intro unique, creative and mystical. By the way I don't consider that vocalization as 'auto tune'
    Do remember the voice box technique, used by Peter Frampton? It stands out today and that made him a very memorable innovator in musical history. KZ made this her very own cover of an already great song. Others have commented that it's actually better than Adele's original version. KZ'S performance, 'Rolling In The Deep' always gives me those goosebumps and that lump in my throat and there are no descriptive, musical adjectives that can accurately describe those emotional feelings that I get from this energized performance.

    She used autotune on the intro to achieve a robotic effect to catch attention. Not really for pitch correction. Something she openly admits. Surprising isnt it. We always saw autotune as taboo but i think she demonstrated that it can be used for artistic purposes as well. Well thats just my view

    That auto-tune (T-Pain effect) was meant to be heavy and deliberate, to make the voice sound like a sad robot as a creative license and provide a different way of introducing the song. I'm surprised you got hung up on that and treat it as if the singer was somehow cheating.

  • @markanthonynecio2104

    Autotune stops @ 1:45. All KZ after that. It was exaggerated on purpose for audio effect. That's her style. That's how she rolls. I like it but it's not for everyone. Sometimes it's better to sit back and enjoy the performance rather than to analyze it. Especially with KZ (and performers like her) who doesn't flow with the norm. I like your reaction though. Honest.

    • @RnBSingingLessons
      @RnBSingingLessons  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @randomlyuploaded2192 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Greg RDL I won't believe him for saying that the autotune never been off after the intro for kz already stated the facts. He probably miscalculated some aspects.
      I like how honest he responds and analyze kz performances but he miscalculated about the autotune is never been off after the intro of that song, for nobody is perfect in term of judging a performance using hearing analysis only and believing that the autotune is impossible to turn off after it used on the intro for kz never will do such a thing as using an autotune for the whole song.

      His analytical reaction is what his reaction videos are mostly about. You don't go on telling someone what to do in their channel. And don't even tell me that you're just suggesting. That ain't suggesting bro. You call that IMPOSING.
      I eat pineapple fruit, but I don't like when they're added in food. Now, you can tell me I'm weird but you don't go telling me, "You should learn to just sit back and enjoy citrusy flavor of pineapple in your pizza." People have different tastes and preferences, you gotta learn to accept that.
      Side Note to Racheed: Haven't seen you react to KZ's Say Something. I don't know if I missed that. But please do if you haven't yet.

  • @cortegaish
    @cortegaish 6 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    you seemed to have missed the point of her making it obvious for the auto tune to come out differently, it wasn't as if it was set up the way they didn't know it to sound that way but exactly the way it was. That was her artistic approach to the song to catch the attention of everyone as it prepares you for the whole song approach. i noticed you are seemingly not ready for her.

    All of us and the audience, except you, didn't seem to get it. the use of auto-tune in the beginning was on purpose to produce sort of an effect just like in Kanye's music, etc.

  • @ross7107
    @ross7107 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I get where you’re coming from with the vocal effects but she used the reverb only in the beginning of the song and I think it was just to add to how many genres she explored in this one song. Pop, rock, reggae, jazz, rap and with the reverb she used in the beginning, techno. I rarely enjoy a performance that’s too reliant on reverb and autotune but I think it works really well here.

    Just to add, was also surprised you didn't comment on that part of the intro where she goes "but you played it..you played it.." going up to the high note which she manages to keep straight, going down still straight and having those autotune "curls" right in the end. That is very hard.

  • @triplecheckyou
    @triplecheckyou 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    The rap was in Pilipino (or Tagalog), not Mandarin. As to the added sound effects at the start of the song, I believe it was meant to somewhat immediately catch the attention of the live audience; unlike the local singers who are obviously known to the public and Jessie J who is already an icon in the music industry, KZ was a total stranger. Hence, the need to get people to see what else she could bring. She went to win that particular episode.

    I could be wrong but in one interview she gave, she mentioned that she would do the auto tune sound herself sometimes when singing and this is without the use of autotune/talkbox. It was her doing the autotune sound alike.

    It's not autotune, it is a "reverb" or "reverberation". International singing competition like Singer 2018 do not allow autotune. She also had this performance in Wishbus.

    Check out her singing from the wish (?) bus, it is a radio station 107.5 maybe. It travels around the Philippines and KZ did this song with no autotuned but some changes to her voice. . It is the same show that Morrissett Amon sang on. I also heard that she uses the effect not to enhance her voice but to add dimension to what she was doing with the song. I've listened to it numerous times and I really like how the whole song was done. Loved the horns!!!!! Thank for your reaction. Great as always.

    Love watching your analysis. Very insightful and I always feel it comes from an honest place with you, from real experience. For this particular song if it's the very first time hearing KZ, then I can see how folks can overcriticize the autotune. But after knowing KZ and her immense talents, I give her all the license to use whatever she needs to convey her artistry because that is surely where she is different from other singers. KZ is not just a singer, she is an experience! A true artist! Her use of autotune is deliberate in the intro (as she has used before in her prior performance of this song) to bring something different and edgy. For me I will not have it any other way in wanting her to perform this song. I would be disappointed without all her deliberate stylings. Again she is amazing and has the license from me to use whatever she wants in conveying the KZ experience. Don't let the autotune fool ya.

    Yes.... Creative... Indeed.. Combines several genre... Electro pop.. Rnb.. Rock.. Jazz.. Rap... Though she uses auto tune adeptly not overpowering her voice .. Hehe as expected being a purist like you would destract you at first.. Like me too until i keep on watching her performance and understand later her versatility and artistry.. Putting her own interpretation on a song soul fully.. The rap is in tagalog. But she do it too in Chinese and English which is not her native language... She is the female eminem... But if you are looking for her vocal prowess.. Listen to her say something performance which practice in a day.. And likewise her mandarin song which is not her native language.. But thanks really for react/analysis....

    She used to put auto-tune on the beggining of the song 'Rolling in the deep' to enhance the performance and to put drama on it. You can clearly tell that it can get your attention so fast. And the auto-tune is in the microphone so even if you get a raw video, the auto-tune will be present. You can also watch her Rolling in the deep performance on Wish 107.5 to know that her rendition of the song used to be like that (I mean with auto-tune). Anyways great reaction as always.

    Not auto tune but reverb. Different because auto tune corrects her voice reverb is more on echoing vibrations so if you can’t sing it’ll still sound bad. Her singing was perfect and it seemed to build up as the song/performance progressed. Love KZ’s experimentation and layering of different genres.

    Theres no big deal about kz's using auto tune or not, maybe reverb or not! the issue here is how to cover that song and how to perform in front of audience and televiewers in her own style. If the show itself allowed her to used a vocal effects obviously we are not in the position to judge her performance.. FYI the format of that show is concert type and its not a typical voice talent show. Kz used voice effect in the beginning to catch audience attention just like humming in her orher songs. If you don't like KZ's voice effects, I bet you don't listen to either Kenya West, Kid Rock and to some other recording artist who used sound effects.

    actually, her original rendition of the song was in jazz sound with scatting (live performance in ROUND PH),,, just remove the reverv it will sound like that. Remember the original song will start in stanza... so to give dramatic intro she arranges it and started in the chorus with robotic sound..

    Her interntional use of autotune as an instrument in the intro here is hugely creative. She is known to use this technique artistically. This won her this round of the competition, even beating Jessie J in the voting. And I'm not surprised!- to take a song as iconic as this and end up with something as jaw-droppingly different & memorable as this is surely to be applauded?

    They PURPOSELY did that 'heavy auto-tune' intro .. But the rest is her real voice .. Well, don't know if the show slightly used an auto tune with the rest of the song ✌😂 she also sang this one in WISHbus while sitting. And same heavy auto tune at the beginning. She's creative with the songs she's going to cover. She also can make a sound of a trumpet. 😂
    Anyways, keep reacting/analysing music videos, i like it. Thumbs up 👍

    Too bad you focused too much on the autotune. This was a contest and autotune is not allowed. The fact that it was allowed in this case means that the organizers understand that it's for artistic purposes (to give a robotic sound) and not to correct pitch.

    Sir, the use of autotune and why it's strong at the intro is a stylistic choice and I'm not sure if you're that familiar with the use of it but getting those straight notes with that amount of autotune and putting those "curls" where it's needed like that is hard. I'm just surprised you didn't comment on that is all. That's actually quite a feat and involves careful control. It's not to correct her tone or w/e but merely for creative purposes and it didn't go on beyond the intro. :) Still appreciate the reaction but was disappointed since it seemed you couldn't even move on from the use of autotune. I understand it has a negative connotation and all but used stylistically like that actually attests to the singer's vocal abilities. I wish you didn't automatically shut down as soon as you heard the autotune which made you seem a bit biased and to review it subjectively thereafter. I personally watch these vocal coach reactions to see technical vocal analyses but seems you gave up early on in this vid. Oh well. Still best of luck!

      I still analysed didn't I?
      I was surprised cos I never seen that before.
      Actually using autotune doesnt require high skill. That's why it has negative connotation. It is primarily used to correct mistakes, but here I can see she has used it as effect after confirmation from comments.
      I will make a demo video showing how auto works with my equipment.

    • @dreadlocke1151
      @dreadlocke1151 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, using autotune per se to correct mistakes doesn't require high skill but using it the way she did actually requires that, as I've said. But anyways, still appreciate your honest reaction towards it :) Still enjoy your video :)

    Since it eas her first performance in this show, she has to catch the audiences' attention. The autotune was there to shock and capture the attention of an audience that has heard it all and has high expectations. It subverts expectations and almost forces them to pay attention. Then the autotune stops and the performance starts. It was genius in my opinion.

  • @astridquotidian
    @astridquotidian 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think that intro usually throw people off because of the autotune, but as we already know what her raw voice can do I think she just likes playing with the songs (they sing covers on this show but have to change it up to their own style) and she probably wants to showcase that she can sing in different genres in one song. It's an interesting take on the song which she completely made her own. But found an a cappella version if you're really interested, though same style but with guitar accompaniment: th-cam.com/video/U36RIvP8igc/w-d-xo.html Cheers.

      RnB Singing Lessons generally, auto-tunes are taboo in any singing competitions, which i believe in this case is also a huge no, no. But they allowed her based on the video she has on the wish 107.5 bus, all the rest was just pure KZ vocals, with reverb naturally

    • @gilromerosaviinti9001

      I think he's still confused haha,
      Well the music director of the show is not allowing any Singer to use autotune, but when the staff of the show sow her wish bus presentation and the purpose of the auto tune is for an artistic approach and only at the intro, they allowed her.
      The auto tune is only at the intro, but the rest are pure vocals.

    • @markanthonynecio2104
      @markanthonynecio2104 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      TC Helicon is a foot pedal controlled by the musician. It's just on/off. Im not sure about a reduced setting. KZ did say on her interview that autotune was turned off right after the intro. Not sure if the producers added post production still.

    That autotune was intentional to add spice on her performance (actually she was the one who wanted to have the intro autotuned) but it was only applied in the intro and after that the rest was purely her voice. She's been doing that long before.

    Autotune was highly intended, for style, and distinctness - otherwise you'd just have just another Adele song. This version has, so far, become the perfect example for the books of a song rendered differently from the original that, so far, transforms to a one - of - a - kind in cover song production where the remake is better than the original. It's great you noticed it was autotuned. She was hoping her audience would notice her introductory style. :)

    RnB Singing Lessons There are two types of performances... Stage ability and vocal ability performance. In this case KZ's rollin in the deef show her ability on how to change the entire sounds to fit in her own style. Even vocal sounds can be changed to synchronized with the music. I think this kind of performance need not to be analyzed technically. If you really want to check her voice ability try to check out her performances "Anak" (Child) and her Chinese Medley song on Singer 2018. You can also check out her "Two Less Lonely People In The World" by Air Supply on WishBus... twa's purely vocals. I know you have in mind how great as an artist KZ is. And perhaps i know you definitely know the difference between a GREAT SInGER and A GREAT ARTiST.... and lucky to say KZ possesed both of those. Sometimes I think you're reacting irrelevant. Not all performances need to be analyzed in details, sometimes we need to enjoy the beat, the music, stage presence and acknowledge the musicians behind the song.

      RnB Singing Lessons I respect you as a good vocal coach my friend. When it comes to music we need not to be technical when obviously that everybody knows that there's a sound effects to the music that were listening onto. There's no need to get expert just to analyzed and to proved that there's an effect used coz it's too obvious for us. As far as i know, music masters appreciates all types and kinds of sounds that produces music.
