The combination of Brennan using his storytelling/world building skills and unique characters to pull profoundly honest moments of character growth out of his PCs and Lou's commitment to the worst voice ever for the campaign that is just so fucking magical here
Ally tryna hold it together throughout, and Lou's vacant stare at "what choice do you have", both gold. but I couldn't stop couldn't stop focusing on Zac breaking at "eaves-peeping", his soul really tried to leave his body in that moment.
The whole interaction from 1:39 - 2:05 is just phenomenally funny. The first intwraction has the highly specific list, the dead air silence and the way Ally puts their face in their hand, with the "Thanks man" punchline at the end just being a perfect response. And then the following sequence, the face Brennan makes, the audible inhale, it's all fucking stellar. One of my favorite comedic D20 moments

Ngl I was a little disappointed that they were just as jokey as every other campaign because I was hoping for more horror vibes, but I also didn't necessarily expect it to be any other way and I can't hold it against them
@@D055__ Yeah, that's kinda what I figured. Presumably everyone has different tastes when it comes to the balance between immersion and keeping it enjoyable. For me, the immersion-breaking aspect of always joking (to where it often feels like it's no longer the character speaking but the player) just stands out a lot more in a darker setting. I am curious to see where the tone will settle in The Ravening War, too.

Small creatures in children’s stories often have cartoonish voices. Brennan chose this voice for Cricket, likely as a compliment to Lou’s clear high pitch. They made a joke that maybe his voice would be clearer if he drank water, bc that’s what would help someone in a realistic setting. It just spiraled from there, as most of their bits do!
In a world where fairy tales are going a bit askew, Pinnochio (a d&d warlock) is consulting his spiritual guide, Cricket, about his very general situation. In this situation, Cricket is already ‘dead’ because Pinnochio killed him by accident (which is apparently what actually happens in some tellings), but is ‘fine’ due to being a spirit here. The mentioned Stepmother is a _very_ corrupted version of Cinderella’s Stepmother, who erased her own name and became an eldritch being (this was _before_ making a deal with Pinnochio to ‘protect’ his father, Gepetto, from things that would harm him. “Things” is including a witch that undid Pinnochio’s ‘real boy’ ending). Also, Cricket was… on an anti-water bend after consuming salt water a while ago.
Where was the drinking water bit established? I watched it twice and couldn't find the first time the joke came up. The first time they referred back like it was a joke already made
