When you mentioned Flo,you make me think of the East German women swimmers.Shirley Babashoff had talked about them often etc.She was vindicated many years later.I Googled her and found this.Babashoff was occasionally referred to as "Surly Shirley" and described as a "sore loser" by the media because of her public accusations of drug cheating by the East German swimmers. To her credit, she was later proven correct-that most East German athletes were using performance-enhancing drugs, substantiated by investigators in the PBS documentary, "Secrets of the Dead: Doping for Gold. Shirley's accusations of drug use by East German swimmers was widely confirmed after the fall of Communism in East Germany. It is estimated that the Shirley was denied three gold medals as a result of cheating by East Germany.I used to live very near her in the Huntington Beach/Fountain Valley area in the late 1970's and 'til the mid 1990's.
