    Do you use the WD40 on your clay when using the plaster stamp molds ?

    Hi Sue- Beautiful work. In your final photo you show 3 mugs where the medallion is in white (light color) and different from the dark glaze on the main body. How do you get the light color to appear? Do you dip the whole mug+medallion in the dark glaze, then wipe off on the raised parts of the medallion? Or do you hand paint each medallion? Would love some insight into your process

      We dip the entire mug and go back and wipe off the raised parts with a sponge. Some medallions are easier than others. I usually have a bit of glaze and a tiny paint brush with me while I do them because I frequently wipe a spot I don’t want to and a quick dab of glaze fixes that. Medallion mugs are time consuming. Until you make them, it is hard to understand all of the steps that go into them. We have some folks that fuss about the price so we offer an easier version of a stamped mug with no medallion. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    Brilliant video! Some potters use hard plastic (like a cookie cutter) to stamp on the clay, do you find the softer photopolymer stamps give just as clear an impression? Thanks!

      We have used rubber stamps of all sorts and are now cutting out our own from carvers wax with a c&c machine. They all seem to work well. I find it’s more about having a good design.

    How do you get the glaze to be crisp and not wipe it all away? I'm struggling to get it to work.

      I always have a small container of glaze and a tiny brush to do touch ups quickly. Some designs are easier than others. Designs that have a lot of raised places keep the sponge from wiping off the areas I don’t want to wipe off. Hope that helps.

    Where do you get your acrylic stamps made? Are they laser cut?

    • @salvaterrapottery
      @salvaterrapottery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The person who originally made these has retired. My husband now cuts them with his c&C machine with machine carving wax. We tried a laser cut but it was too rough-c&C is better. Sign makers usually have c&c machines. They are quite common now.

      @@salvaterrapottery c&c machine..? Sorry not sure what that is. Plasma cutter..?

    • @salvaterrapottery
      @salvaterrapottery  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No not plasma. CNC machines are usually used to cut a design in wood with a computer loaded image. Computer Numeric coding is what my husband says it stands for. I thought it had an & sign in out. Hope that helps.

    Hi Sue...it's me, again
    Who creates the design that is sent of to the rubber stamp company?
    Also, which rubber stamp company do you use?
    thanks, Sue

      The customer almost always supplies the design. I do have someone local who can do it if we need someone. The rubber stamp maker is village impressions. They are on the web and she will tweak designs for an extra charge if needed. My husband got a c&C machine and we are cutting our own stamps now.
