Inspirational video as always, Jean... 🙂...Before I left the States, I turned down three different jobs. They paid well enough, but after crunching the numbers (your CBA) I came to the conclusion with each one of them that I would be spending 4 dollars to make 3...It's ridiculous...So now I am floating around Asia, down to 3 suitcases, and happier now than I have been since the last time I was in this same state back in the 1990s... 😃...The message is - which you articulate so well - is that it is more important to have a "mission" in life than to have a "job". Whether that mission is service to humanity, creating something, or just enjoying yourself and letting your spirit run free, doesn't matter. The improvements to your state of mind - say nothing of your stress-free physical being - far outweigh the fake fear of shedding that warehouse full of stuff that most people refer to as their "home". Home isn't a specific physical place. It is where your life takes place...Mabuhay!... 😉

I always want to take the leap and ask what exactly lets you stay afloat financially, but i fear its very rude and selfish. I am stuck and i am having to reach into new avenues to continue searching for what i want and need out of life and at this moment i am writing this comment while feeling like i said previously. So to not continue using your time, can you please tell me what exactly you would describe as a good way to have a sustainable and stable (mainly financially) life floating around asia like you said? Is it a specific skillset or managerial position?
Thank you for reading and for your time to anyone reading this and whether you reply or not! Have a good day/ night!

In the process right now of "shedding the warehouse". 😂 Hallelujah! 🎉 Marie Kondo truly saved my life.
I'm also headed to Asia! My specific mission is still unknown, but I think the traveling will give me some insight. Thank you for the inspiration. :)

      @JeanVoronkova  ปีที่แล้ว +8

yes, it absolutely does, and I appreciate you pointing that out and then still saying that my childless person input is helpful to you lol. If it's of any comfort, there are also a lot of families here (caucasian and japanese) in Bali who manage to make it work with 1-2 kids and still a similar lifestyle to ours. Mostly business owners here. Which in itself must have been a leap to start out in.

yeah, things get more complexed with kids. You have to think of their education, their future and your own old age. And as age comes, you need good medical nearby. We can only try our best to plan and calculate things and cross our fingers to hope everything works out. We can plan all we want but the one above can just throw you the curveball.

Hi Jean, Well it wasn't this video but it was one of previous videos that helped me make up my mind. In fact I remember the line you spoke went something like this. "Being messed with by people in positions they have no business being in." I don't remember the exact video in which you said that but it stuck in my head.
I was being messed with because I am a whistle blower. It was a bullshit job as you say on top it. I did my research threaten legal action but was offered an early retirement. I took it. I could have stayed and continued to be messed and gaslighted by my co-workers and management. I decided to take the leap , get out of comfort zone.

When I was younger in my teens in the 90's, I was scared to take a leap, because I had this fear of failing. I learned that if you fall at something in life when you take a leap, that it's okay. Because you have the choice to go back out and make it happen for myself and family that I love. Jean I always love you're thoughts on any subject on you're channel. in my 20s, my 30s, and 40s, and even 50s, I have taken the leap (of faith) and reaped many rewards...nowadays, I'm just reinventing the traditional class structure (straight lecture) for my 7th graders, and have them contribute to their learning and their future.
Not the easiest road, but I'm fine with the process and, so seemingly, for my students from the feedback they imparted to me.
Jean, your message is timeless and worth repeating through the ages.

I made a few 'leap' so far in life (mainly by relocating a couple of times in different countries). I stopped 'leaping' after my son was born and I separated. I wanted to be in the same country my son is and wanted him to have a present father. He is now 17. And I am starting to think about.....a 'small new leap' in the next 4/5 years. Might seem a bit late, given I will be 48 this year!
But I want to carve a different path for myself. Which I kinda did even if I didnt leap, but changed work so many times and caught all chances I had to always study something new and expand my knowledge. Good luck to all the 'leapers' future and past! Pizza&Love

    Hi Jean,
Taking such leap is not risky as long as one makes the assessment based on the prevailing (available) information. This will make one more experienced and confident in the decision making. Most importantly, there will be no regret as one has made the desired decision regardless of the outcome of such decision.

@@JeanVoronkova This is a very common concern (among many) for would be (adult) nomads. Schooling considerations become a concern for one parent or the other. I am of the belief that the combination of a great online school like Acellus Academy, etc. AND the culture/language/experience benefits of travel itself will more than make up for a regular school life here in Texas. People are concerned about the social and academic challenges that kids might face and how that might impact college fitness, etc. I say do it anyway.

People still come to me and ask if I’m selling my baked goods. Another dream is to have my own homestead, garden, and raise chickens. These are my 2 biggest dreams.
I’m not sure what I’m waiting for. I’m scared that I may be unsuccessful. But I am definitely more scared to stay where I am for the rest of my life. I guess I just cannot believe I spent 10 years after college for a bachelors, masters, and credentials all to leave my current profession.

I've been following your videos for a while, and enjoy hearing about your FIRE journey. It would be cool if you did a video revealing your "nest egg" retirement figures, while also showing your passive income (like TH-cam earnings, dividend earnings etc). If that's too personal I understand. But I'm curious if this is sustainable for the next 40 years if the nest egg isn't as big. Anyway, I think it's really impressive that you were able to retire within 4 years.

This is exactly what I was thinking about. Lawyer quits job. Question: how much did she save prior to leaving that job? Also, the word condo was mentioned once or twice. Q: How much equity was involved upon sale? This gets to that issue of investable funds ( FIRE nestegg the commenter described ). I am operating on an optimistic 6 to 8 year 401k build up , IRA cash out AND future real estate liquidation to provide FIRE funding pool. Is this what Jean did ? Curious minds want to know.

Before making the leap of faith in Southeast Asia, how much savings do you suggest? $40K? $50K? $60K? Or more? This could last me over 2 years, assuming I don't earn any income at all. I am considering serving as an agent for custom fashion, clothing, embroidery, and printing businesses. Just need to know the factories in Southeast Asia that do what they do well. Selling to the New Worlds and Europe? Or working as an Independent Contractor and partnering up with established companies in real estate and/or international trade companies? Perhaps getting 30% to 50% for all deals I bring in? I am thinking of more entrepreneurship. Your thoughts, Jean?

Everything you have mentioned is about doing something good for yourself and you encourage others to do the same. The question is: Who should be doing things to help others? I am sure you have heard about the earthquake in Turkey.

And my heart goes out to the ppl in Turkey, but everywhere around the world including here in Bali there r also others struggling whom I can help directly n immediately. @Thomas-Chin10 ปีที่แล้ว

@@JeanVoronkova I have never said that I have "fantastic measures" to save the world. I just don't see the idea of taking the "leap" feasible for most people. I think the idea of retiring at a young age is very selfish because young people can do much more to help than the old people. If everyone leaves for Bali, who is going to put the food on the grocery shelves, delivery your mail or teaching the children at schools? Having a job is more than just earning a living; rather, it shows that we work toward something that the society can benefit from or perhaps rely on. I have devoted my entire life as a school teacher. I have never tried to save the world; instead, I try to live a life without wasting.

@@Thomas-Chin10 You have very limiting views. She never suggested that retiring early was the solution for every person on the planet, nor that retiring early consisted of no longer working. Her message is intended for those of us who no longer want to be debt slaves stuck in a monotonous cycle of eat, sleep, work to make others rich, while we live paycheck to paycheck. If you enjoy your job so much, good for you, but why are you watching videos like this? Maybe you have regrets, and maybe you are miserable. I appreciate this woman for inspiring us to live our lives rather than just simply existing. Did you teach children to think critically or did you only assist the governments in their indoctrination programs? Jean is working online and making a living which allows her to enjoy a rich life. She is helping herself and all those around her who have the benefit of entering her sphere. I'm sure she also helps alot of people in ways you can't imagine. hi Kevin, a few mistaken assumptions here I feel I must correct. First, my parents in Singapore are definitely comfortable but still pretty middle class. I grew up in a HDB in Tiong Bahru area till I was 15. Pertaining to my parents' home, even today, there are HDBs being sold at a similar price to its valuation, so it's not really what you think. I am not a single child. Further, my parents and I are definitely financially separate and independent. I am privileged and blessed that they are generous enough to not require or expect my financial support. That's definitely a huge factor in my freedom. But i definitely do not use my parents to offset the financial consequences of my life choices. I got my first part time job at 16 with Lian He Zao Bao, I waitressed throughout university plus emcee and acting and modelling gigs and I haven't stopped since.
