    One thing I always appreciate about your videos is you include when you make a mistake. It's so easy as a less-experienced maker to compare yourself to content creators who seem to make "perfect" projects for their videos, when in reality, we all make mistakes! Accidentally flipping the dado blades is something I know a lot of people would cut out.

    • @Iliketomakestuff

      I'm not special, I make mistakes. I assume that someone else out there may make the same mistake.

      Agreed! Mad respect for the transparency. It makes everything feel more accessible because if someone more practiced still makes mistakes, I can forgive my own mistakes without beating myself up over them.

    Great work Bob. I work at a small regional museum and use French cleats regularly for exhibition and storage purposes. We have a gallery space designated for temporary exhibits; cladding the walls of the gallery in French cleats would not only increase flexibility and security of artifacts displayed, but they would also reduce the unavoidable, repeated need for wall repairs.
    This has inspired me to put a proposal together.

    I really like this cabinet, there's nothing like building your own furniture to display your collection of LEGO/toys/props/etc, that's how I first got into woodworking without even realizing :D One thing I'd suggest changing: make the doors meet in the middle without leaving a gap, with some soft material that seals the gap and keeps the dust out (in case you ever do anything that kicks dust up in that room).

    I'll just echo one of the top comments here but for real, the fact that you include "mistakes" in your videos and explain how you fix them and how it's actually not a big deal is really useful, because on youtube anything seems perfect since they usually just show the perfect result, often omitting all the failures, while in real life, especially when you're learning, nothing comes out perfect on the first try. These are actually the little things that make me try and mess around a little, otherwise I'd just think that I'm not good enough. Good job!

    • @Iliketomakestuff
      @Iliketomakestuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for that, it honestly makes me REALLY happy to hear that! Failures are just a part of it, for EVERYONE, whether they want to admit it or not!

  • @Sidecutter
    @Sidecutter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    OK, I may just try this in the near future, this looks great and it can custom-fit anywhere.
    Couple thoughts - What about using LED strips with LEDs that put out light at a pretty typical 120 degree angle, and mounting them inside the doors with the 45 degree aluminum channel? And routing out wiring slots in the door frames to make the wiring more subtle would be my other suggestion. I think this would distribute the light more evenly all across the case. You could add a non-angled row at top and bottom to fill in those dark spots, as well.
    My other idea would be to make your shelves be exactly where the cleat is, and then make backdrop pieces that have their own cleat and match up to the shelves, then you could mix and match multiple backdrops on a larger shelf, single backdrops to single shelves, etc.

    One of the things that makes Bob and team great video producers are their music pairing. It's so subtle that it never distracts, but subtly helps make a twenty minute video hold your attention all the way through. I've always loved the guitar tracks, but the retrowave/outrun vibe of some of the music in this one was a welcome addition to the music library.

    Love the LED lighting. Looks like some I found in IKEA. Would have been a lot easier to use them on my display cabinet but they hadn't come out yet. Ended up using self-adhesive LED strips, cut at corners with push in corner connectors. Works OK, but could be neater and occasionally the corner connector comes loose, so one strip is white but the next is red.
