I remember the day his coffin was brought back to DC for the last time. My friend and I were playing outside when my father (who died a few months later himself) told us to come inside and watch the news. He said "I want you kids to always remember this moment in history" and I still remember every detail to this day.

I cast my first vote for Reagan in 1984. Four years later, I was commissioned a second lieutenant (reserve) in the US Army, with his signature on the document.
Ronald Reagan, HE WHO WON THE COLD WAR & FIRST OF HIS NAME, will always be my president.

Reagan along with Congress ended the Mental Health Services Act of 1980. He ended Roosevelt era regulations that kept Wall Street in check for 50 years. His policies are still affecting us negatively today.

yes his policies to the mentally disabled and deregulating the stock market has now turned the stoc market almost into a criminal organization. The reasons why countries like Denmark, Norway have a STRONG middle class is due to its unions. He fired the ATC controlers. I met the daughter of one of them. He left usa and likely gave up his American residency "revoked his citizenship" and became a Canadian and continued as a ATC controler in Canada.

Context: Social Security was expected to default in 1983, because the Cost of Living adjustments were tied to inflation while in-payments were tied to wages. As real wages declined and inflation increased during the 70s and early 80s Social Security was on the brink of collapse. The BI-Partisan Social Security Amendments of 1983 accelerated payroll tax increases, increased employment, increased the retirement age and yes made 50% of benefits taxable income. After these BIPARTISAn reforms Social Security not only survived but created large surpluses. Congress+Reagan saved it!

Fed taxes were cut under Reagan, but he had NO control over the "tax to death and spend to death"Democrat "Big Government" policies of leftist States and urban areas.

Ronald Reagan has long been one of my heroes. He did a lot during his presidency, but it wasn't his politics that have led me to admire him. Reagan is one of my heroes because of all that he accomplished during his life. He started out being a popular and successful actor; he then became President of the Screen Actors Guild, then Governor of California, then two (2) terms as President of the United States. In my mind, that's one HELL of a life that few people could ever hope to match. I have tremendous respect for Ronald Reagan.

Ronald Reagan reduced domestic spending while greatly increasing military spending creating massive debts. Even Republican colleagues wouldn't cut the social security benefits he intended because although he you write an applause line about government wasting many programs are actually popular with the public. Reagan's policies caused a crisis in American agriculture moving many "salt of the earth" ordinary, conservative Americans off of their farms. The great communicator was largely silent on the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Except when making gay jokes at the expensive of Americans infected with HIV or dying of AIDS. The Nixon tapes show that he and Nixon were very quick to make racial comments about African-Americans. Many of the right wing conservatives that now venerate Reagan also support Trump. Even Reagan's harshest critics will recognize his abilities and achievements. So I have to ask how can someone be a Ronald Reagan Republican and support Trump? Trump violates all of the Reagan commandments.

I'll add that Shultz was on the board of directors for Theranos and pressured his own grandson to be quiet when he became a whistleblower against the company for their fraud.
