I liked this story, and I really couldn't care less if it's based on a game. Two reasons: One, it's not a game I have played. Two: If I had played that game, I'd enjoy this story; maybe even more so.
You didn't have to spam everyone who recognized this. That was childish for someone old enough to have read the entire series as it came out. I took am old enough, and was lucky enough to read the first three before life and making a living got in the way. Saying it once was enough. If they are interested, they will read. If not, so be it.
Yes, there are elements of Niven's stories in this episode; also, as others have pointed out, Olsen Scott Card's Ender series. Additional authors I was reminded of: Alastair Reynolds, Terry Pratchett, Steven Baxter, Peter F. Hamilton, Dan Simmons, David Weber, Iain M. Banks with flashbacks to episodes/ books/ comics of Star Trek and Star Wars.
@@kenlee5509 I don't think I've read most of the Ringworld books, but everything I know about them sounds way less like this story than Halo does. I don't think the ring in Ringworld is a weapon that wipes out life for lightyears, nor did it contain an ancient parasite that takes over other life forms and was what the ring was built to destroy. Nor to my recollection are the builders of the Ringworld human. Also the Ringworld is MUCH, MUCH bigger than the rings in Halo. This story is 1 for 1 Halo without the Covenant.
To those complaining about similarities with Halo: Halo itself is derivative of other sci-fi. It's rare to find any completely new concepts, these days.
Good Afternoon Western Canada is in the midst of our first winter storm! We have 6" of heavy wet snow and more coming. The wind roars through our tiny town of 1100 people. Bad weather won't keep us at home! We are tough humans! How about writing a story about an alien species having to deal with a lot of snow!?! Great idea right?!? 💚❤💚
It would be funny if the story shows bungie in a conference room thinking for a game idea. Then suddenly their ancient ancestors memories remind them of this war.
Compared to other HFY channels, this one is among those who focuses less on the deathworld concept. Of course, that's partly because other channels tend to mention it about twice in every sentence...
Humans did start the flood problem in Halo lore, through Forerunners were the ultimate cause that resulted into the Ancient Humans "creating" the Flood.

Don't know this guys name but he is talented. And I'd bet given time he'll become much more so. Probably not really rich. But if he working for the best of all these Sci Fi channels, he adding to something that is really happening. Stick with it bud. Sometimes the best thing is to let others take advantage of you. Just a part of the learning of character. I know from a few successes and more failures. GBY
Interesting. I recognized the author combined two fictions. Maybe three. Halo from the precursor story. Star Trek with the Federation Space Explorers. And maybe Star Wars if you consider the telekinetic abilities. What I find most interesting about the story is the what if Universe scenario. In our IRL human origin Theory, upright humanoids may have originated in the late Ice Age. In the story the warden explained humans were dumped on a death world during a global Ice Age. Sounds eerily similar to our theory of human origin. Which I like that bit of detail from the author. Which hypothetically means those current humans in the story are probably Earth humans that we recognize. Meaning they have no knowledge of their precursor history. Furthermore the knowledge of the human precursors might have died with the warden if it wasn't for the situation. And now that the Federation is learning about it, is there a possibility that knowledge will be passed around the rest of the Galaxy. Battlefield means a scenario where first Contact occurs and the rest of the Galaxy knows humans are not a new species. And the humans themselves will discover their own ancient history through the aliens, one way or another. So with all these elements into consideration, I'm imagining a humanless Star Trek story where humans not only appear as a young species but have a deep-rooted history that directly affected the current events of the whole galaxy. And the humans themselves slowly discover these ancient forgotten secrets and what kind of important role they play in the current events of the Galaxy. I guess that also technically means this is Halo scenario where the Covenant doesn't exist. So even if the Spartan program does continue. We probably wouldn't see them being used against aliens. Humans first Contact would be approached by a Star Trek Style delegation. And things would immediately be more urgent with the cooperation of humans as a deterrent against the sci-fi zombie apocalypse.
Well this one was quite uninspired isn't it ? An ancient specie that ruled the galaxy, fucked around with spore that turn every species into zombies, and to destroy them create a network of rings... or HALOS, to destroy all life in the galaxy to stop them, HMMM I WONDER WHY THIS SOUNDS FAMILIAR ?????
@@kenlee5509 if it was only the ringworlds I would have been fine with it... but you've got to admit that if there is like 5 or 6 plot point that are exactly the same, not even talking about the Precursor race that share she same exact name... it's not really a coincidence isn't it ? Again my comment is not to throw shades on this channel, most stories are really good. Just, yeah to be brutaly honest, this one felt kinda lazy script writing wise.
True! Well noted! Just my opinion, but... If I wanted to hear a story that is "Humans are a scourge" I would just go to any bookstore and pluck any book off the shelf in the sci-fi section. I don't come here for "Humans are monstrous destroyers of all things". I come here for Humanity! F* Yeah! THOSE kinds of stories are more difficult to find in print by quite a large margin. I'm frankly quite sick of Defeatism and Self Loathing in Science Fiction; the genre has been plagued by that sentiment for over 20 years. If this is the direction you want to go with the channel, I'll look elsewhere.
@guardbrosfielddesk bold of you to assume this is the first story I didn't like. I've passed on several. Maybe it was too silly. Maybe it wasn't a well put together story. Maybe the pacing or authors ability just wasn't for me. No harm, no foul, I'll wait for the next story. But if I want to hear "Humans are a scourge"? I can just subscribe to Analog again. I've got no time for that Self Loathing sentiment anymore. It's not "cool" or "new" or "edgy", it's the status quo of science fiction now, has been for decades. If that's the direction Starbound wants to go, there are other HFY sites out there. That decision, that stance, somehow makes me unreasonable?
Bruh, this is just literally Halo.
