I rode this water slide when it first opened and I never knew it wasn’t designed by a professional engineer 😳 glad I only rode it once!
A hand drawing is as good as anything, right?
We should be glad it was demolished
@@Sticky_sausage69 they only did that because of a childs death
It seriously looks like a 3rd world build quality. I mean just pause at the drop gate...

The netting is so terrifying and one of the worst builds I've ever seen. It doesn't take a genius to understand a thin metal fence is bad news when going 70 mph. How is that going to protect you?
Absolutely.
I don’t know why they though they needed the mesh in the first place, if the ride was properly designed from the start, it should’ve been physically impossible for the raft to fly out under all operating conditions.
@@Ian-pe9rj It really is impossible to understand.
If they were scared that a raft could go airborne and wanted a plan B just in case, making something that won't kill you might've been a good idea!
As someone who lives in Kansas City, Veruckt is a mess we’re all still trying to forget, but at least it put more attention on safety regulations for water rides so such a horrible tragedy cant happen again in the future.

They literally ignored engineers, specialists, and the multiple warning signs when they were testing the concept where the raft would just fly off the ride.
The father of kid that was decapitated literally did everything in his power to let them get away with that.
Only when his kid died, the bitch did 180 and started screeching about them needing to be responsible.
Is that a fact?
@@fotisfotis8060 There's a whole documentary of its creation before the event happened.
The engineers said it wasn't a good idea, the simulations were yielding bad results, and they had so many failed test runs with sandbags so bad that they put safety nets over the ride but that was also ill advised because as in the case of the kid who was killed flying upwards in or outside of the raft would mean getting severe head trauma, I'm no expert but they at least should've had safety nets on the sides so that they are caught, and not scalped and beheaded.
@@badgamedevreacts3855 Exactly, better yet, they should have put strong plastic vertical walls on each side that are tall enough to prevent the raft from going off the slide, like a giant coin slot. That way there would be nothing overhead and nobody would lose an arm if they happened to not keep arms inside the raft at all times. And make the walls transparent so people can see through it. I bet if they actually followed the safety requirements, the slide would have been just what I explained
@@blankearth5840 If it hasn't already been done I think it'd be a great publicity stunt to make a water park that has a ride that looks exactly like the verruckt but actually designed correctly and say something like "this ride is safe because we care enough to make it safe" be a great way to take the Schlitterbahn empire down a couple of pegs, however I am biased because the owners grandkids always got to use the boogie bahn after the park closed, so they were the only ones who could enjoy riding it with only a 5 min line.
1:07, the net looks dangerously close.
1:11 🔪😰
From Wikipedia:
Reportedly, Caleb, who weighed 74 pounds (34 kg), had been allowed to sit in the front of the raft, rather than between the two women accompanying him - one weighed 275 pounds (125 kg), while the other weighed 197 pounds (89 kg).[31] This created an uneven weight distribution, which some experts concluded may have contributed to the raft going airborne.
Of course fat people killed him. Fatties should be banned from all public attractions and transport. If you can't even control your own basic health metrics, you should not be allowed to do normal people things in society because you are not normal by definition. That's a fact.
In other words they were obese hogs and the kid died because of it
No doubt, but the rafts going airborn were very common, even with other weight ratios.
Imagine going out soo excited to have fun . And then everything ends in a short time when you only wanted to have fun
Yup just like the tragic accident that happened last week on Thursday i believe. A 14 year old teenager named tyree slid out his seat from the tallest drop tower in Orlando..
@@anabanana8064 the video was posted on tiktok, i was sick to my stomach, that poor boy :(
The fact that the owners had no engineering experience and created a ride mind blows me . RIP to Caleb 🙏
to be fair that was true for the people at Action Park as well, none of their rides were made by engineers.
This is one of those contraptions that sounds way better on paper than in practicality. That mesh should've immediately been seen as a hazard and removed.
But then he would’ve flown out and died in a worst way tbh. The whole thing should’ve just never been build by this guy PERIOD.
Honestly they should’ve just removed the pointless second hill and it still would’ve been the tallest water slide in the world. One small adjustment and that poor kid would still be alive today but for some reason they just had to have that damn second hill
Even the slide itself when you look at it from a far looks sinister

Even the name is too
Yeah and it sounds like a map from Nazi Zombies
@@qualicumjack3906 no, it’s literally the name
You know that the name of the water slide means “Crazy” in German.
I remember watching a TV show about the construction of this slide. I won’t forget how they refused to let anyone see the first few test runs and how the rafts went plummeting off the ride. It honestly shouldn’t have been a surprise when we heard about the tragedy on the news.
It’s honestly a miracle only one person was killed in this considering it was designed and built by two guys who aren’t engineers
If it hadn't been closed and then torn down after Caleb's death, there is no doubt more people would have died. There was already a list of people with serious injuries that had been covered up, and the ride hadn't even been operating that long.

'The raft he was riding went airborne during the ascent of the second hill and impacted a metal support of the netting, decapitating him.'
Where is this excerpt from?
@@c_rebekah The Wikipedia article on the Verrückt waterslide.
You can see at that exact spot for whatever reason there is a opening in the netting. And the reinforcement bar looks extra reinforced. I can see how he was decapitated now, I have never seen this detail mentioned before but it seems like a ridiculously negligent mistake to have no netting there
@@pickleman40 1:15 thanks 👍
Indeed I see the opening in the center with the reinforcement bar sticking out . 😳
To add, he sat in the front. One of the women behind him weighed 197lbs and the other 275lbs. My guess is the weight of the 275lbs woman levered the raft, that is if she was furthest back.
Idk I'm not a physicist, but could imagine that being the case and that it contributed to the accident during the ascent
There’s almost no rust on the slide which means that in the drone / helicopter video after the kid died, it was actually blood snd not rust
yep, all blood. I noticed that too.
What is that metal fence with metal arches going to do besides decapitate people?
"Not too bad"
Indeed, you even still got your head over your shoulders
My favourite part being that their "safety net" is at that speed basicly a cheese grater
when you got airborne, it gave me chills
He never got airborne ??🤣🤣
@@hanisjackson1681 Yeah, only for a few seconds at about 1:16 , but he definitely did. Probably not as severely as other had but yeah
Are these just Velcro straps? Nice.
R.I.P Caleb
that slide saw numerous serious injuries and the one infamous death before it was taken down. I'm actually glad to have come across this video to get a better visual of the riding experience than what is shown in documentaries.
Fck this slide that innocent boy lost his life because of incompetence and negligence I’m glad this embarrassment of a slide has been tore down.
This all could have been avoided if they just used a transparent plastic instead of netting, or if the owner just fucking listened
if the took out the second hill.
Plastic would also kill you at 70 MPH
Plastic would still have the ability to internally decapitate you. They should’ve not had Velcro straps and they should’ve had a softer material for the outside part of the slide
or, you know, maybe going with your gut when the raft goes flying off into space on the first try
They should have put a roof on the raft (no relative momentum). Still dumb design but a lot more safe…
I wonder if that slide instead had ~6+ foot plexiglass panels with maybe a noticeably higher sidewall ON the part of the slides right where the potential for being airborne is the highest but WITHOUT the metal net/fence structures on top…
That this entire park would’ve still been open and with an acceptable safety record. In spite of its misgivings on other rides… heard/read that much more secondary rides were also closed to the public in their final year of operation…
At that speed, if someone’s head were to bump against it, it might still be fatal. They needed engineers for this ride to be safe. It would have to probably be 15 feet above the slide, but still at those speeds head injuries could still happen I’m sure. Maybe if the raft was on a train of some sort to keep it in the tube? Defeats the point of a slide but I don’t really see any other way of this working.
I'm really glad I never rode this thing. I feel awful for that boy that lost his life, and his family...
Maybe I'm missing something obvious but - why even have the metal cage on top of the slide? In theory, wouldn't it be less harmful for someone to just fly off the slide rather than what happened to that poor kid?
The fact that they even had it makes me think they knew it was dangerous
There’s absolutely no reason to have that on the top regardless. You’re not gonna fly into space. Put up some rails or extra platforming on the sides in case someone flies off the side… but the entire arch is completely unnecessary and it ended up harming someone anyways instead of protecting them
@@AlzMarioWolfewhat
@@AlzMarioWolfe Better yet, why not just enclose the whole thing in a plastic tube, like many water rides do? Put some padding on the ceiling where the airtime hill is just in case, easy fix
@@AlzMarioWolfe The construction of the net tells you how bad the problem was of rafts flying off.
So forgive me if I misunderstand, but the netting enforced by metal rings was meant to pretty much keep the raft from flying off the slide? Wouldn't they have expected the first object on the raft to hit the netting/rings to possibly be somebody's head?
This was posted only a month before the accident 😭
