It's a little more complicated than that. Canada is integrated with NORAD. In order to ensure "compatibility" with NORAD functions and networks, the US demanded every contender of the competition to give away the signatures of their radar and electronics. Including radar modes and whatnot, even PRIOR to the result of the comptition. Just for the sake of "checking if everything is compatible" you see? Which is a nice joke since radar modes, especially WAR modes, are the most secretive part of any fighter aircraft. The Rafale, back then, was the only european aircraft featuring an AESA radar that was present in the competition. Others only had (and still do by the way) prototypes AESA with in-development modes. The RBE2 AESA for its part is operational since more than 10 years. And since it's not really a different radar, just a different array compared to the older RBE2 PESA, both antennas being plug&play, it would have basically meant the US would have known in a snap of a finger absolutely every little secret of the Rafale regarding its radar and its electronic warfare. So Thalès (France) was more than pissed since this was literally normalized espionnage. Dassault then tried to get the other 2 european contenders to leave the competition . They refused. Passively speaking, the Rafale is certainly not a VLO (Very Low Observable) aircraft, "just" a LO (Low Observable) aircraft with its 0.06 m² frontal RCS, far better than "4Gen" fighters. Passive "stealth" is not the alpha & omega of fighter jets, it has lot of cons . . . The aim of LO/VLO is to increase the plane survivability, but for the Rafale this goal is not only based on a single property (VLO) but on a smart balance between RCS, agility, endurance, ground following, self-defense suite (SPECTRA), reliability, supercruise, ease of employment, etc...
@@jasc4364 Ok all your comments shows you are not aware of last defense techs. Stealth aircraft tech is available since the 70s. So you really think the big powers in the world who are able to detect missiles smaller and way faster than an aircraft don't have radars to detect your so-called furtive plane ? Wake up and read more about the world defence, not only US tech. First danger in war zone is to be too much confident.
@@thierrymilan2039 I think you have swallowed too much Russian and Chinese propaganda. As radar, stealth is a technology in constant progress. Today’s stealth is vastly better than the one of the 70s. By the way Russia and China don’t seem to agree with you. They pour money into stealth because they know that it works; they even brag about it. They can’t afford to be left behind. But you know all that, you just feign to ignore this to protect you cherished not stealthy rafale.
@@thierrymilan2039 More or less you can.... Volvo flygmotor been doing it since the fifties. Not as easy as a carengine with turbo of course but doable.
I've been to quite a few airshows and almost never saw a jet fighter performing with external loads, be it from the USA, Russia, UK, Sweden, France or anywhere else... Simply because it would be quite pointless. Moreover, what makes you think that no other country than France would tune the engines and lighten the aircraft it displays in flight? The only things you actually managed to prove are your jealousy and your cluelessness. :DD
Will Rafale be great when it attempts acrobatics against a 5th gen gen at low speed? If you want a crowd pleaser then the Rafale will be up there. If you want a jet that will survive a full on battle i would go with the f-35. WVR battles do not happen since long range A2A missiles were invented. Rafale will be toast.
You simply don't know what you're talking about. F35 is a mess even after 10 years, still unreliable. The US airforce is actually planning to cancel order of that fat iron. F35 is a warrior only in Hollywood movies !
@@thierrymilan2039 Clearly its yourself that is clueless and do not understand that the f-35 A & B & C variants are all operational with between 82-92 % operational usage after flight (far greater than the typhoon or the rafale) which languishes around 60% operational use due to the high maintenance time to service them. Thanks for pointing out you clearly do not know the mainenance stats for each jet.
@MrTherealpadYou clearly think that situational awareness does not matter and that OODA loop is just a made up word. He who can react fast enough within engagement and has all the data to hand lives to fight another day. The Rafale fully loaded with ordanance is a slug and hardly as manueverable as seen at air shows. If the F-35 engaged it at BVR it would be toast. It cannot outrun the missiles it cannot dodge the missiles. Its EM is not sofisticated enough for missiles that track in mulitiple ways. Once the missile gets close enough then their is a no escape scenario. Rafale is old tech built on a doctorine that is outdated.
@@llamudos9809 Well it seems you're trully convinced of what you're saying so I will not start trying to explain the matter of facts like autonomy and carry of ammunitions far superior of the Rafale than F35, also fusion of data or reliability which is simply something F35 will never be able to achieve. Not to forget Rafale is combat proven and has successfully enter in denial airzones to bomb russian equipment in Libya.

After successfully shooting down the balloon Su-30MKI returned to its Air station, further investigations reveal that "Happy Birthday" was written on the balloon.
This is first & only IAF's Su-30MKI official air to air kill till now.
une sacrée bêbête
weak engines, small radar, no IRST, no HUD, low service ceiling
That's true! F35 is horrible
@@utilisateurlambda7983 so horrible everyone is buying it
that has an indian air force emblem on it
That's what i was asking myself..is it indeed the Indian logo?
@@kaamdev810 no its the french cocarde en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockade_of_France
French emblem cocarde, it exists before India had an air force or a flag. Read description.
Very similar to Indian Airforce but blue color, not green. French airforce.
old tecnalogy buy india
Did you just call this "old technology"? 🤡
So what, it is not stealthy.
Stealthy is still outdated. Certainly not a game changer for big airforces.
@@thierrymilan2039
Let’s say some countries are just incapable to build a stealth fighter, therefore they simply argue stealth is not a game changer.
@@thierrymilan2039
I think you have swallowed too much Russian and Chinese propaganda.
Not so sure what´s impressive? The french always fly with special show airplanes with tuned engines ,clean, stripped and lightened aircraft
Lol jealous , any sources to back your conspiracy theories? FYI all planes fly clean config during airshows.
@@lordtemplar9274 No just check the videos from the same airshows and you´ll see
You think you can tune a jet engine as you would with a car at low cost ?
@@thierrymilan2039 So you fail to prove your point or debate the opposing view yet want to be critical. Seems like a cop out!
