  • Hey Guys! Octane Restorations back here with another Motorcycle restoration! Today we have a 1988 Goldwing GL1500 in the shop that has been sitting for over a decade. This is actually a motorcycle I bought for myself and plan on riding after I get it running! Today's video is the second step in that process, replacing the fuel pump! This video is narrated!! Thanks for watching, please consider liking and subscribing if you enjoyed the video!

    Looks like the crimping works fine. Heat shrink is a great idea, too.

      I am sorry but the fuel pump I used isn't listed anymore! There are similar ones on ebay.

    Soooooo thank you for the video but I have a question. Ummmmm….what if you suck at crimping and have wire showing? Is that going to be like a fire hazard or something inside the tank?

    • @octanerestorations
      @octanerestorations  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Normally no, the environment inside the tank is too rich to support combustion, not enough air! But you can solder the connections if you want! I would use shrink wrap around the connections which would help prevent any trouble. Loose connections do create spark and resistance.

      @@octanerestorations Thanks for the help. Like many others fixing up one of these bikes, I want to be sure that the bike works before replacing the OEM pump.

    • @octanerestorations
      @octanerestorations  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adrianb1655 I understand that completely! An easy way to see if the bike has compression and spark is to spray a little starter fluid inside the air filter assembly and try to start the motorcycle. If it fires up even for a second, then you know it has spark and compression. If it doesn't, then there could be additional issues that is not fuel related!

    Please, I need help if anyone can assist. I am looking for a pierce of hose that is no longer available in terms of OEM which is fine, but I am not even sure if I even need to replace this piece or if there is a work around. Part number 17703-MN5-010 which is number 16 on the diagram, all it tells me is 45mm. Honestly, I am completely new to the Goldwing and its had its ups and downs but I do really love it. Does anyone know what other options I have? Or maybe a place that provides this hose by the foot and I can just cut it down to size myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      If it is the huge hose in the gas tank, you do not need to replace it. It is a vent hose!
