I lived in Battlefield (Cartside Street) over 50 years ago. It's great to see the old place looking so good. Paul, your Glasgow accent brings a smile to my face every time I hear it. Keep it up!
I've lived in Somerset after leaving Glasgow in 1998. I was a Southsider and lived all over Shawlands and the Cathcart/ Battlefield area. I am shocked at the changes but i guess that's just the way it is. It was a pleasure watching. 😊
Good evening Paul. Hope you're fine.Great drive.I have never seen so many flats in my life.I always think about the poor postie.I did that job for 17 years.Still lived to tell the tale.lol But when you went down one of the streets it was WOW! The older flats look solid, wonder what the interior is like. Tak care x
I’m old enough to remember the soot stained buildings…black and foreboding. Now the stonework looks amazing! Pink and blond sandstone. Glasgow is gorgeous
I remember when I was about *8 years old* going to the museum at Battlefield X , Old claymores, cannonballs and lots more dating back to the Battle of Langside 400 years ago. Is it still there or converted to flats ???. Great video.
It stayed closed for years: you could still see the exhibits through the windows. There was a sign saying it would reopen but it never did. The council sold it off for flats at the same time they sold off the adjacent tennis courts, bowling greens, putting green and swing park to a company who built a five a side football place.
Wetherspoons on Kilmarnock Road (the old Safeway site) closing down was a huge blow to the middle aged/older people in the area. It was a place where they could meet for a coffee or pint and it didn’t cost a fortune. Also, it was company for those who would otherwise be alone. Shame 😞
Thankyou peter it was my pleasure ,, hope you got to see what you wanted, wish you the best of health and south Africa has been good to you ,,, ill be on african soil this September (uganda) .
Thanks
that's a really nice thing you did
