In SWFL Gulf, the typical grouper line is 50lb leader, 5/0 hooks and 5oz weights. If I used 100+ lb mono leaders for bottom fishing grouper, I'd NEVER catch a grouper. I love your videos! They're accurate and informative.
Absolutely i wouldn't use these in the gulf either 40/50lb fluro & longer length back their ill usually go 75' maybe even a 100' depending but i dont fish the gulf much unless offshore is nasty & im forced too basically. This is what we'll use off the ocean side/east coast off the keys. Mainly drifting wrecks, reefs & ledges with my family. The kids just arent there yet so i rig heavy otherwise im tying on rigs all day its tough but its a family trip type thing so is what it is until they sharpen those skills. We're getting them there though. Hope yall are having a good season gona be murked up for awhile after that storm🤦♂️ Stay safe out there bud & thanks for stopping by & sharing some info we appreciate that👊🙏
Thank you for the support i hope that info helps you save a few bucks & put some meat in the box brother👊 Thanks again for stopping by the channel. Tight lines & stay safe out there.
You've gotta come spearfishing with us when you come to FL again! I'll try to find you on social media. Spearing gag groupers doesn't even compare to catching them... Although conditions aren't always conducive for free diving/ snuba, so your video is a big help for the deeper drops! Thanks 🎯
Where do you buy your chafe tubing? I'm done with the chafe springs, they rust and occasionally spread, pinching the hook stiff on a hard bite- lost a couple good ones because of the springs.
I spent the pandemic making up rigs, trolling skirts, inchiku and kaburu jigs, hand carved stick baits, bucktails and three rods. I'll admit your tip about making little info cards is better than my lazy method of writing on the bags. Love those spinner boxes by the way. I've never seen anything like that over here in Indonesia. Sure miss Walmart LoL.
never seen anyone make a grouper rig like that. we usually put a lead above a swivel to about 4'-8' of leader onto a circle hook. the closest thing ive seen is a knocker rig. nobody uses crimps or leader that heavy unless deep dropping.
Sure you have you just did my friend.🙌 We fish south Florida aka Fl keys wrecks, snags, rocks artificial reefs ect for grouper. You want a hvy line/leader in those area's or you'll be rocked up n broke off real quick. Very common keys rig for grouper available in every tackle shop normally 3-8oz egg 100lb-250lb leader. Size your rig for the conditions/area your fishing. Sure you can always lighten things up if the fish aren't chewing, the current is light & bottom is somewhat clean by all means go as light as you can. None of that applies to where we fish these rigs. Also grouper aren't a tackle shy fish they literally eat aluminum cans bottle caps ect so crimps aren't an issue at all with this species. Hopefully that explains in better detail why its built as it is👊 mainly the area my friend. Thanks for stopping by the channel & interacting i appriciate it. Best of luck on the water & stay safe.
@@Betterthanbought. ive been grouper fishing for 30 years, i dont know anyone who buys rigs at a tackle shop... not trying to be rude im just tellin ya how it is down here

Where will you be in the keys?
I live in GA but keep a place in Key West and will be there in October.
Maybe one evening we can meet for a meal?
