    Amazing!! On a fixie with that sort of non-fancy gear! You are an inspiration!!!

      Thanks! Australia is very flat so the lack of gears doesn't have a huge impact. Although there were days with strong headwind. Very brutal. Felt my soul being destroyed all day long, lol!

    Thats just absolutly incredible. I did the complete loop in a 4WD and it wasn´t easy. I cant imagine how it must be on a bike.
    How did you manage to stay hydrated on the deserted parts of the journey like the Broome - Kununurra Trip ? How did you manage to not die of heat or due to a failure on the bike when your on the road ?

    • @josephxkendrick
      @josephxkendrick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did a lot of riding at night to avoid heat and traffic and get more k's in. Also a faster than average rider so took me less time to get between roadhouses. I'd just drink litres of fluid at a roadhouse, fill my bottles as much as possible then make a break to the next roadhouse. Plenty of other travellers along the highway were offering me water too - which I usually declined but did have to ask for once, at around the place you mentioned.

I seem to be going through a pair per two seasons and definitely cycle a lot lot less than you (not very fit yet). Also another quick question, would you mind saying a thing or two about the crystal? sounds interesting!

    Just found your channel man, awesome staff, thinking of doing Melbourne Cairns and this was really interesting. Never thought of putting tri bars on the bike.
    What made you get a front dry back instead of a back wheel rack?

    • @josephxkendrick
      @josephxkendrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, this is an awesome comment, thanks!!! I prefer having the weight up front 'in my hands' so to speak. Just easier to control and gives the bike a nicer feel. I can't STAND the feeling of weight on the back of the saddle, especially when climbing or accelerating out of the saddle when it sways (it will always sway!). Maybe it's more aero too? Aha! TT bars are literally the most important thing EVER for doing ultra distance back-to-back days. MASSIVE. I'd NEVER ride more than 300km without them.

    • @josephxkendrick
      @josephxkendrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Melbourne-Cairns would be pretty awesome but the east coast it TOTALLY different to the rest of Australia. You never have to worry about servos being open. There's more people / traffic. More roads and junctions to get lost on. If it's your first big trip then it would be awesome but going out of the big cities and heading somewhere more remote is an insane experience. Life-changing, in fact. You have to prepare a bit more but it's very unique. Regular gaps of 200km+ to the next food and water.

    • @georgekoukouris2347
      @georgekoukouris2347 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the tips man, that's put me into thoughts now, maybe I'll continue from Cairns to northern territory who knows. Will defo buy aerobars! All the best with your editing of the Oz tour 👍

    • @josephxkendrick
      @josephxkendrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Aerobars are just a really relaxing position to be in. Obviously, you don't set them up with an aggressive drop like a 10km TT race... but your weight is on your elbows on a nice thick pad so it takes ALL the pressure off your hands which is crucial for 'surviving' long multi-day rides. It also is a little bit more aero too, which counts for something even if you aren't riding fast haha. Have the pads almost in line with the saddle height. It'll be like riding a sofa. So comfortable!!!!!

  • @enno1479
    @enno1479 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why did you usw mtb pedals and no road pedals? I heard mtb pedals are way less comfy on long rides. Great vid dude!

    • @josephxkendrick
      @josephxkendrick  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I could walk easily. Used mtb shoe with carbon sole so less flex around the pedal. Might have had to walk huge distances so didn't want to risk that in road cleats, plus would have probably had to pack spare cleats for this reason too.
