Most of the battle of the atlantic during the war was conducted from a basement there, its open to the public now at certain times of the year and is exactly how it was at the ened of the war, allegedly, winston churchill visited there several times during the war.

      In the 1950s-60s, above it was a small shop, run by my father, used by people who worked in the offices around. It had stairs down to a very small basement, where there was a toilet. Next door was a shop selling copying machines and the like. I was frequently in 'our' shop, and the office buildings all around, because I worked in Cunard Bldgs. No-one had any idea of what was beneath them, and I was amazed when it was opened up and I was able to go and look around.

    As a scouser I sometimes feel alien in the city centre, it seems full of pompous none original scousers who've come to live here and make it trendy and snobby. I miss the old working class pubs and characters. I guess its a price to pay for progress and tourism. I liked the Mike McCartney analogy at the end about Liverpool projecting herself across the world like a sort of Americanism. I have had the pleasure of working in some of those listed buildings.

    "Secrets":
    The interior of the Martins Bank Building, that until a few years before filming was a functioning branch of one of the largest banks in the UK.
    The Royal Liver Building.
    The exterior of the Oriel Chambers, which thousands walk past everyday.
    The Chinese Arch.
    The Philharmonic Dining Rooms.
    An 80s built recording studio. As he mentions the Beatles, Mersey beat & Music 11000 times, the existence of recording studios in the city may not be that secret.
    Parkour, at the time of recording a sport that was mandatory in every film, TV show and music video created. Made Coronation Street interesting for a bit. This was on perhaps the most famous set of steps in the city.
    The Metropolitan Cathedral.
    The Museum of Dentistry, led in by a swipe at Scouse teeth, from a Scot, one that's clearly got awful teeth.
    Hitlers visit, that may of may not have happened, his brothers house isn't there anymore either way.
    A bunch of advertised galleries/restaurants in old warehouses.
    The tallest building in the city.

Why's isn't it available to the public and tourists, I mean, it's not like it needs anyone finding untold £millions ' doing it up money' is It?. But then maybe that's why they sit on these buildings, perfect condition, then just left empty and closed for years .

      @robertdraper5782 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@danielhill7390 I'm sorry but it just isn't true it's just an urban myth, a Professor from Liverpool Uni spent five years researching the possibility including contacting the remaining family in New Jersey and came up empty. Bridget Alois's wife mentioned it in a book manuscript in the hope of boosting the chance of a lucrative deal but there is no corroborating evidence from anyone including Adolf Hitler himself. The story got a new set of legs in the mid 80's when a graphic novel about the story was serialised in a 2000 AD spin off called Crisis which put a bit more flesh on the story but it was a work of fiction. Liverpool School of Art and Design (The Art school) had only just opened and wouldn't touch working class British students let alone a penniless Austrian, one story I heard even had him writing Mien Kampf in the Picton Library but it just one of those myths that has taken on a life of its own.

    Not very well researched; Liverpool has 3 Liver Birds that sit atop buildings!! There's also many other 'hidden' around the city. Didn't take kindly to the explanation of the two most famous birds either...... maybe revisit this city soon and get a nice Kirkby Kiss from someone who recognises you.

    There is much beauty in Liverpool. But much of it is undermined by garbage. You have ‘the three graces,’ but surrounding that you have the hideous museum and glass monstrosities spoiling the view from the Docks. One of my favourite pastimes is appreciating the beauty of Liverpool while dreaming about a glorious summer day when the degenerate garbage is greeted by a giant wrecking ball.

Even if it was in a worse state architecturally - and it was not - building monstrosities does not improve things. How about maintaining the quality that is already there and build buildings that are somewhat complimentary?
