This piece of art was the weapon of my father. He used it for competition purposes in our shooting club. i remember vividly his dry aiming exercices in our living room with it and his thorough maintenance routine. Of course already as a child i held the python in my little hands (no rounds loaded). It was a fascinating and at the same time humbling experience. Also the smell of the maintenance oil (Ballistol) i'll never forget. I use Ballistol today for various things...and every time i smell this oil it reminds me of this legendary Colt Python 6"...

1975. wife said she would by me a gun for a birthday present. Went back to the store, and they did not have the Dragoon I wanted, so she said pick one. They had the Python 6" Highly Polished Stainless, but I did not want to spend that much money. (Was in the military and just got married). I settled for the Trooper MkIII 6", and I had protected my homes for over 40 years. Even shot a White Tail deer with it. My favorite gun ever. Congrats on finding such a great specimen. What memories this video conjured! The very first time I ever fired any pistol was around 1978 with an identical Python, and it spoiled me for any other revolver. What a way to start a hobby. But, I do agree about Smith ergonomics. I've never forgotten that hand fitted smooth action and deep finish. You'd have to spend $$$ more on a Korth to even come close, and the Python is still prettier.

I had a 6" Python and a 6" Model 29 back in the '70s-80s. A neat thing about the Python was that it was SO smooth, I could cock it, put a dime onto the front sight, extend to a Weaver and dry fire it without the dime falling off. Purt near every time. I could do it sometimes with the Smith, but not nearly as often as with the Colt. One of those firearms that I regret ever getting rid of. I often think about getting another Python, but in a 4". The Model 29 went away, too. Now I have a 25-5 and a 25-7 which I really enjoy. Shoot safely, my Friends. Blessings..

I have had at least a dozen or so Pythons from the 2 1/2” inch up the the 8” inch and even a 6” inch Nickel Plated Python and for what ever reason I got rid of everyone of them and 8 years ago I sold my Colt Anaconda .44 magnum but I did get $2:000 out of that. Anyway Hickok you are one lucky guy and I thank you for letting us enjoy the first ever shots from your Beautiful Royal Blue Colt Python The Cadillac Of Revolvers!!!

TheMultiGunMan ..Mine too! Approximately 30 years ago I held a Python for the first time and fell for it, but even back then it was too pricey for me. Fast forward 20 years and I could then easily buy one, but my gunsmith strongly discouraged me saying that they would not stay in time. So, I did not buy one. DAMN! I should have!!! “Woulda. Coulda. Shoulda”.

Still the most Beautiful Revolver ever made. Saw one (6", blued) first time on the cover of a gun magazine called 'Magnum' in 1976 published in Johannesburg, South Africa. I lived in Kimberley at the time & was 13 years old! Promised myself i would get one when i grew up! Unfortunately, the new government in SA limits the firearms you may have to three (one hunting rifle, one handgun for target shooting/competition & one weapon for self-defence) & is attempting at every level to render the population defenceless in one of the most violent countries on Earth by legislating constantly against firearm owners.
That sadly will prevent me from owning one of these.
Thank you for sharing this. Its lovely to see someone so passionate about this particular Revolver!
Don't trade it again...😉..& enjoy it!

I recently inherited a new in box Smith and Wesson .38 Chiefs Special (pre model 36), from 1952. It's so nice, but I can't bring myself holster it, and carry it. I don't want to mess it up. The gun came with the original box of ammo, with only ten rounds missing. Thanks for the video guys, be well.
