      Ive got a 2011 LP Traditional and a 2013 American Strat. I love my Les Paul, and my strat but there is just something about the Les Paul that sets it aside from all other guitars. I cant put my finger on it but both Strats and Les Pauls are legends of guitars.

    Watching this video again after 5 years of guitar And it’s now maybe the biggest part of my life, majorly because of these videos with chapters and the captain. It’s amazing to see my own progression from beginner to (without sounding cocky) a pretty good blues player to now playing jazz and also the progression of Andertons. Rob and Lee have both done so much for my life without even knowing it and I’ll always remember this video and the slash one as well as many others. I love this haha

      Same here my new friend. I started watching Rob when he was less the 3K subs. Then when he started working with Lee I was hooked on both. Today is Sept 16 2023. I still go back and rewatch these. Something comforting about it. All the goofy stuff they used to pull, all the Christmas videos, the "Ritchie Sambuka and Wilderbeest...all those memories are good ones.

    That final scene of walking out of Andertons with a new guitar brought back so much nostalgia. I remember taking each guitar back to the car and making sure it was strapped in safely, taking it home and sneaking it in while no-one was looking, rearranging all the other guitars to try and disguise that there was anything new. Oh the memories

    • @JobForAMaxboy
      @JobForAMaxboy 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      I'm left handed, but decided to learn guitar right handed. Can't understand why someone would pick up a left handed guitar. If you're a beginner, playing it the other way round will make no difference!

    • @papasqueezeable
      @papasqueezeable 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Max Oak Actually it does make a difference. I couldn't do shit with a right handed guitar when I had to decide. So maybe I could not play as decent as I do now if I picked up a righty in the first place. Sucks to be lefty I guess.

    • @macpac22
      @macpac22 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I cant even hold a guitar properly right handed. Im totally geared to left handed. I picked up an LPJ 2013 on the cheap. Hope to upgrade to a Standard when Gibson decide to help us lefties with new models.

      On your statement of, and the carrying out of the old method of playing guitars UNPLUGGED to see which one excels, I say AMEN BROTHER! Back in 1990, I must have tried at least every other Les Paul for sale in central Florida, both new & used, and I finally spotted one that was "not for sale" behind the counter of a dealer/friend's music store. It needed pickups & tuners. I strong armed him into letting me try it anyway. SHAZAAM!!! That Les Paul Standard blew all the other ones away, and it was also one of the lighter ones in weight. After 5 minutes of a verbal beating, I finally talked him into selling it to me. Pickups & tuners replaced, and every guitarist IN central Florida wanted it!!! Sadly, I had to part with it years later, but it was & still is the finest sounding electric I've ever laid my hands on. And I truly believe: The guitar that sings, resonates & sustains the best unplugged, will be the guitar to beat when plugged in. Great video. And congrats on your new "FATE" Paul. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go wipe the drool off my chin & shirt.

    Andertons, the store, is set-up properly, so that players can have easy access to the guitars. Our Guitar Center in Bucks County PA, while having a very nice staff, is set-up horribly. All the decent guitars are 20 feet up in the air behind a desk. When I go into a guitar store, I want to be able to take my time, pick up the guitars and browse comfortably without begging to hold an instrument. I wish we had a store like this in my area.
    BTW, great video!

      I'm not familiar with the counties in PA, but there's a store in Bel Air, Harford County, MD, called Musicland. Unfortunately it's mostly Fenders (boring!), but they have a good selection of pricey stuff on the floor. And the real primo stuff is still just one employee and a ladder a way. They're great people, too. If it's not too far, I'd really suggest a visit.

    • @TheCoolpara
      @TheCoolpara 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      *They're not 30% more expensive. Chappers and Lee explained this in yesterdays Les Paul video (the 50 minute one) Lee said the price went up to a max of 10% :-)

    • @WoodesosGuitarMods
      @WoodesosGuitarMods 9 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Yes, but in the last couple of years these have gone up considerably more than 10%. Go read the articles all about how much Gibson's now are compared to just a couple of years ago. The better part of 30%. Foe example, the Les Paul Studio that for many years, hovered around the $1000 mark, now sits on the thick end of $1500. No mini-tune system either. Just a bone stock Studio. That's a big jump in price. And it's not happened gradually. It was from one year to the next, here in Canada and the US. Everyone has raised prices. $1500 for a guitar is insane for most average players. Its crazy to pay that much for a guitar. You can buy a decent used car for the price of a Standard now. $4K?? That's crazy. Who can afford that stuff now? I can't. I know most guys can't. Doesn't stop us from wanting them. Just puts them slight further out of our reach. I'm just jealous, I don't own a guitar shop and have many thousands to simply pluck one from the wall and take it home. But hey, they worked hard, and deserve it. I'm just jealous. That's all;-)

      If feel your pain matey, but remember, there is no substitute for talent. If you can play well, then it will more than make up the difference between an Epi LP with (pickup upgrades) and a 'real' LP. Rock on!

    • @WoodesosGuitarMods
      @WoodesosGuitarMods 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yeah totally. I agree completely. No question, but it doesn't make me want one any less;-) Just like I'll never own a Ferrari, I'll never own a $10000 custom shop... Just is what it is. But it seems crazy to me that they've taken their entry point guitars and put them out of the reach of regular players. I've bought and owned 5 or 6 different Studio's. All around $1000. But $1500...plus tax...makes these prohibitively expensive. And I'm actually a Squier guy. I own 8 of them. 1 Les Paul and that's it. All my guitars with the exception of the LP were no more than $100 used. Few trick parts and set up...and they become awesome. My last 5 or 6 videos is all about how good cheap guitars can be. Just doesn't take away my ache to have this sort of stuff;-)

      It's not just for the tone. It's the feeling of owning a real Gibson Les Paul, a piece of music history, it's just something special. I'm sure there are sub $1000 guitars that could out-Les Paul a real one, but it still wouldn't feel the same. I don't know if i'll ever be able to afford one, but i sure as hell want one in my collection.

    I just bought my first LP this week (from Andertons) Still got a huge smile - although sadly I can't quite make it sound like these guys do, my skill level is still not where I'd like it.... Lots of practice required! I went for the 2014 standard (in the mad ocean water perimeter finish) rather than the 2015 due to the neck profile and some of the 2015 changes weren't really my bag... It's got to be said there is nothing that can quite replicate that LP sound... I'm now a complete addict!

    What a great feeling it is to be able to buy something as sweet as a LesPaul. I stupidly sold my 1976 LesPaul Deluxe back in the mid 90s and soon regretted the move, especially for how little I asked for it, ouch!

    Gibson & Fender are Brands that have been wired into our brains since we were children watching Hendrix, Clapton & Page. Even the Beatles played them for god's sake! Guitarists are generally a very conservative bunch and we're still playing guitars designed by Les Paul & Leo Fender 60 years ago. Imagine if we were still driving cars that looked like 50's and 60's models.
    We have amp modelling, 600 effects, infinite availability of patches, computer recording, you don't even need a band anymore, you can record whole albums on your own and this is great - total creative freedom.
    But when it comes to our pride & joy, we still love the traditional shape, colours, tone and look. We also have great guitars by Ibanez, ESP/Ltd, Jackson & Schecter, to name a few, that have captured a good share of the market, but most of them are strat, LP, sg or tele shapes. All this tells me we have the iconic image of what a guitar should look and sound like and we're not gonna change - not in a hurry anyway. Go Captain & Chappers, cheers & goodwill from Oz.

    • @IlSinistero
      @IlSinistero 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      agree with you!
      there are companies who tried different shapes etc, but most, not all, but most look weird. a shape I really like and that is not so common than the strat, tele, les paul or sg, is the jaguar/jazzmaster, to me they look very cool.
      only thing I'm not so traditionell about is the color of les pauls, I can't see all that sunburst, heritage burst etc no more, wine red or that "see through" blue, black etc I prefer, they look very nice.

    • @johnnywebb2652
      @johnnywebb2652 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the jaguar/jazzmaster shape looks cool in a retro way, like those pre-rock instrumental bands. Famously played by Kurt Cobain more recently (20 years ago!) My son bought a Dean razorback - now that screams Metal. I bought the wine red LP signature T last year, beautiful, awesome guitar - we're all suckers for name brands as I said before, but it was the first time I could afford a quality level Gibson. And call it ego, call it snob value, selfishness or just wanting something to love in my life (soap opera), it's great to play & look at. Like having a champion racehorse or a Ferrari in the drive - it's mine and I can take it for a run anytime I like. cheers.

      congrats!
      and wine red it looks beautiful! :)
      I have a les paul standart in black from 2000 and an american standart strat from '98. I will keep them, but since I don't play in a band no more, but still like to buy a new guitar from time to time, the ones I bought over the last few years have been cheaper ones - 2k or even more only for playing at home would be a little over the top :D
      the latest one I bought was a squier vintage modified jazzmaster in white for about 320€, its cheap but I love it - looks great and sounds decent.
      its really stunning what quality you can get today even for such a low price! I remember when I started playing guitar in the mid 90ies my first guitar was a samick les paul model for about 500€ and it was crap, today for about the same price you can get a mexico strat and these are really nice instruments - at least some things change for the better ;)
      and yes, we all are gearsluts :D
      greetings!

    Why is the intro slowed down and the pitch lowered?

      I've heard it enough times to notice it was lowered.

      Sounds ominous compared to the usual one. Almost like something bad is gonna happen.

    You should turn this show into the Top Gear of guitars. Just an idea. Use the format of what Top Gear use. Have guests. Travel places- Historical guitars, music etc.; Do what James May, Clarkson and Hammond do in Top Gear, just with guitars as the theme. You two guys are awesome and i really think your personalities are perfect for a Top-Gear esk show. You already kinda do it with your review/fun events style format. You should just make the episodes longer and more premium. Think of some grand ideas and do them! For example as an idea, Travel to tennessee and discover the historical aspects of the music industry there. In between (like top gear), demo new guitars like you do now, in your studio (like top gear). Have Guests. The more your show grows, you will get more prestige guests. It will really make this show exciting and move towards the mainstream. There is such a huge audience for this! This could be the hub for guitarists, the main place to go to get the latest news in the guitar industry but in an entertaining way! where you can kick back and relax. You guys basically have it, i just think you need to conceptualise the shows a bit more. Organise the format a bit. Do a series. "Cap and Chappers: Series 1, episode 3"?? You can always keep doing what you're doing in between shows, but the main thing for your channel should be this show in my opinion.
    You already have the community and all the right vibes that come with it, so build it. Make a format for these shows. Take these "low budget youtube shows" and turn them into full TV programs. It not like you don't have the money or brains between you. Think, theres such a huge audience for this show! You already have the fun factor between you both, you have the products to sell. With some good thinking, you guys could make something great!
    I just can't wait to see "Cap and Chappers" in Texas or something, shooting guitars or whatever (Lol, i dont have a good idea on hand. If i think of one, i'll comment it on here.). Cap and Chappers Build a Guitar? Cap and Chappers Find the worlds most bizarre guitars-Most expensive-Most beautiful. IDK. But some greater minds than my own could probably think of some great things!!
    Just imagine watching Cap and Chappers play acoustically together in like a really beautiful place on earth, say Yosemte in california. OMG! It would be beautiful to watch. Or! Even in a really beautiful place in the UK! PLay guitar at Stone Henge ot something :) I think you both already have a strong connection when you play and so being in Yosemite or somewhere nice or musically rich would just bring out some great music for this show. if you record a simple acoustic session in a place like that, it would just be great TV! like imagine the different vibes that would come from your music!
    You could use it to promote Dorje too! Add live performances to it maybe. Have a weekly music feature/highlight where one of your favourite new artists play a ten minute set at the end (@ say 45:00in). give something to our music culture in the UK!!
    Ohh, the bigger better format would mean.. More viewers, a closer tv like direction heading towards the mainstream which means more customers for the shop, for your guitar company, chapman Guitars. More $$$ which in return can be pumped back into making this show bigger and better in everyway!
    Ps. "Cap and Chappers"

    Dude, Lee is so right about a) the hand gap and b) knowing the feel before it's plugged in. I rarely plug anything in, it's gotta pass the feel test first (oh my).
