    The rubber mat gets really hot, you could see them hopping like they are walking on hot coal in first round.

      great observation. Socks would be a pretty huge disadvantage to a kicking style too.

      Oh that makes sense. I had thought they hurt their feet on the kicks or something

    The strategy against Capoeira seemed to be the same as that against taekwondo of closing the gap.

      If he was throwing the kicks full speed, it would be harder to close the gap, but yea.. Capoeira has a lot of close combat tactics too actually. A lot more than TKD

    I believe the Capoeirista XEM Quit to preserve OBD's honor and to not risk injuring him.
    At the end of the match XEM lands a knee to the liver that sends OBD back. I think XEM submitted so OBD didnt have to take the loss for the body shot.
    I also think XEM was pulling his kicks, and was intentionally not throwing a lot of punches, because he didnt want to risk hurting an older guy.
    I could be mistaken, but i believe thats what happened.

    The younger guy wasnt trying, all his kicks were held back , where as the old guy was going 100% the old guy was trying to prove himself the young guy was trying to not to hurt the older guy, the old guy tripped at one point and could could have been the end of the fight, the young guy ended the fight because the old guy got kneed and injured the younger made the right decision as the older guy wasnt gonna quit, unless he got seriously injured, even when the old guy was punching , the young guy could see it all coming and didnt faze him, respect to the youmg guy for the way he handled the whole situation

      It's ironic because even though it's called Steeetbeefs there is a huge amount of camaraderie and respect between fighters (outside of the actual beef fights)

    Interesting matchup! Would have liked to have seen the capoerista use some handstrikes a bit more or some more movement around his opponent. Was also surprised he didn't straighten his leg with his meia lua de compassos.
    And the chess capoeira idea sounds fun!

    Capoeira guy was being super nice the whole time. He landed a nice knee to the body, and then did a goku v cell surrender.

    Capo has all types of strikes. Punch,kick,elbows, knees as well as takedowns. This capo dude doesn’t seem to know any of that and he’s slow with it. He hasn’t been trained to use it in combat. Historically, Brazilian slaves won their freedom using capo. Facts

    Is there a reason that the capoerista (and it seems like this is generally true of the style) fully extend their legs all the way through a kick? It seems like that would significantly slow down spinning techniques.

    • @FightCommentary
      @FightCommentary  26 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Probably just the way they train. It is trained to look pretty. Not always for maximal kicking efficiency.

      I agree, which needs exaggerated arm movements and without punching power makes the arm swinging harder to disguise as punches

    • @ssths
      @ssths 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @elenchus I think the capoeristas actually bending his legs more than normal, to slow down his kicks.
      I don't think he was comfortable fighting an old man. (No offense at all to Old Boy David. I'm a big fan of his).

      Capoiera Angola is strict on always doing flashy 'traditional' capoiera moves. You'll rarely find one of their style who doesn't fully extend the leg, they teach it to increase momentum as they don't like to chain kicks.
      If you look at his double spins they barely keep momentum between them.
      Regional or Contemporan have a wider variety of kick ranges and a bigger focus on momentum, which makes it a bit more dynamic and atheltically demanding.

    This capoeirista must have a knee cramp It is not possible that he does not know that not performing the crescent kick with an open kick will reduce the strength and speed of the kick Since he did not open his knee, his leg will not reach a place far from the opponent, as he will not be able to change his direction towards the opponent if he fails to hit his opponent😭

    They need to match OBD up with other older fighters instead of always setting him up with 21 year olds haha
