Dear God. The way that she bends at the knees when she hits those sustained notes lets you know it's coming straight through her--the real way to tell a live singer. Jenny Lewis never ceases to help me out in rough times.
Love this song. Love the lyrics. Love her voice. Love the background singers. Love the rythym. Love the "feeling" I get from listening to this song. It's simply....NICE!!!
I too 1st heard this song at the end of a Without a Trace (CBS tv show) in 2009. It's been one of my favorite songs since. (Most of Jerry Bruckheimer's shows have great songs during/at end of them)
@imalittlemidget That's where I first heard it too, On CSI Miami- it gave me COLD CHILLS-- I grabbed a pen & envelope & just started jotting down all the lyrics I could, then once the show was over (thank God for TiVo, I could listen to it over & over...) I went to the computer and found it by way of the words!!! Have been a HUGE fan ever since, download everything I can find from her!
One of the few interesting things going on in music right now..... mostly I play music from the 70's & 80's in my ipod but Jenny Lewis is always in the mix
And by the rolling river is exactly where I was There was no simple cure for unlucky in love To be lonely is a habit like smoking or taking drugs And I've quit them both BUT MAN WAS IT ROUGH.... Now I am tired... It just made me tired Let's build ourselves a fire... Let's build ourselves a fire
cause I've been down to Dixie & dropped acid on my tongue Tripped upon the land til enough was enough I was a little bit lighter & adventure on my sleeve I was a little drunk & looking for company So I found myself a sweetheart with the softest of hands We were unlucky in love but I'd do it all again We build ourselves a fire... We build ourselves a fire... But you know I am a liar And you don't know what I've done...
I'm not taking anything from Jenny Lewis - but check out "The Builders and the Butchers" I think you'll find them a fantastic throwback and the kind of band we all need to get behind
I went to a cobbler to fix a hole in my shoe He took one look at my face and said, "I can fix that hole in you" I beg your pardon, I'm not looking for a cure Seen enough of my friends in the depths of the godsick blues You know I am a liar.... You know I am a liar... Nobody helps a liar
I wish I was the age of this performance again.... Thank you for keeping this posted.
You can not ask for better live harmonies. Exquisite.
to be lonely is a habit like smoking or taking drugs--
she writes the most heartfelt, soulful lyrics..
I've played this a thousand times❤❤❤

Listening to this while a thunderstorm and rain plays outside makes it that much more special.
