  • Learn how to install pre-hung doors for your reno project, including instructions on how to check for required shimming or leveling of a door frame.
    A door is a precision instrument. It should consistently snap into its latch, clear its jamb, and swing effortlessly on its hinges. The fine tolerances needed to achieve this kind of performance help explain why hanging a door is considered a true measure of carpentry skill.
    Using pre-hung doors means YOU can do it!

    Good video. He presents it to you like he is actually trying to help you rather than showing you he knows how to do it. Answers a lot of little questions that might come to your mind.

    Good info. It appeared that the door was sticking in the frame when being closed. Sticking a lot! Did nobody else notice this? It shouldn’t be touching anywhere on the frame once mounted. It almost looked like the rough opening may have been just slightly undersize not allowing for enough slop on the latch side to prevent this.

    What is your measurements from the concrete floor to the frame?

    • @ConstructionCoach
      @ConstructionCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The height of the rough opening is 82-82 1/2. The width is 2 inches larger than the door.

    • @hockeyman1
      @hockeyman1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry what i meant was, do you leave some space from floor to the frame ? If you lay carpet and underlay

    • @ConstructionCoach
      @ConstructionCoach  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will leave 3/8 -1/2 if there is carpet going down.

    18:29 Looks and sounds like the door hits the door frame before actually closing.

    • @seagold2

      Bottom right side of the frame was out of line and he had to shim the upper right. I think the door could be sanded to fix the door hitting the frame sound that we could have heard.

      Thomas Reardon 15-16 gauge nails for putting the jam into the studs. 18 gauge when you’re gonna put your trim on.

    Theirs no need to remove the door from hinge on pre hung the door frame is already level

    • @RedroomStudios

      it is standing on it's own with the tie straps on it but you need to take the weight of the door off the frame when you go to install it because the weight of the door causes the frame to flex until you have it screwed in to the wall.

    I like the video but I just cannot stand “up talkers”. They drive me crazy. Everything sounds like either a question or like they think you’re stupid. Like you don’t understand. Only 11 more minutes to go of Mr. Valley Girl? I think I can make it without throwing the device against the wall? Oh dear God why? Please make him stop? 😂
