Great video. Thanks for sharing your tips. I'm from the island of Malta. I started seriously building my whisky collection two years ago and saw my peak of 125 bottles recently drop to 112 as price increases start to bite. You've really given me some eye-openers here!
I found a liquor store near me that had 3 Macallan 21 year old bottles with the original packaging a wooden box for 469.99 per bottle. I Immediately bought all 3 of them and found out Macallan has discontinued making the 21 year old on top wine searcher shows the bottles sell for over 2,500 us dollars per bottle now.
Best video ever! #10 struck home hard, just this week. 10 years ago bought my first bottle. Found out this year it was a three bottle collection. Found two overseas for $550 CAD. Thought what the hell and bought em. Didn't research duties and taxes :-( Just paid $940.00 in taxes, duties and brokerage. Don't be stupid like me. Go for an fffffing holiday and bring it home with you. Don't import personally!
I only buy whisky to drink I usually buy 2 to 3 bottles same whisky, but what tends to happen is over the years some of them whiskeys I flip because they get to a point where they’re worth a lot of money by accident.
Im glad this guy aint in the States! I dislike flippers very much so. People like this make it harder for people who just want to enjoy, experience and share their whiskey.

@@petebigner151 thats perfectly fine. Its the people who are adding themselves into a transaction when they dont belong that i take issue with. There is already three hands in the pot, we dont need a forth. Distiller, distributor, store thats it. People taking advantage of other peoples excitement is a sin.
Distillers don't make whiskey for drinking. First and foremost it's made to sell. That's right, whiskey is made to sell. I do drink mine however. I have seen some cool collections that I enjoyed looking at and learning about. Cheers my friend!
Whiskey is turning into what baseball cards were in the 90's. EVERYONE collecting something makes it worth nothing, caput! When everyone has the same Macallan bottles sitting on shelves,what are they worth? I'm glad I've was doing this long before the big rush.
Really enjoyed the video. Food for thought for me, I Started a small collection a few months ago and am looking for some good reputable websites that make suggestions of upcoming releases ect. I'm currently not doing alot of research and just buying bottles I like the aesthetic of from brands I enjoy.
On the Irish side it’s very hard to find any form of information on upcoming distillery drops and when they come, they come fast! It’s very hush hush until the day of. You’re method is cool too! It’s whatever works for the individual at the current time
@@TheWhiskeyChaserBrian ye I'm originally from Ireland myself, but here in finland all the off licences are a government owned monopoly so it's hard to find anything on the secondary market. So wanna find a way to be ahead of the curve. But cheers for the video and reply, keep up the good work, I'll definitely be turning on notifications for your vids
First thought from the title you meant "collect" as a means to drink. Didn't realize it was going more towards the investment side of things. I'd suggest you clarify that in the title. Good content on that topic though. Ticked that we can't get all those good bottles in the US though!
