    Great vid and product! How do you smoothen a surface that has an incline (i.e. 40mm across 6m)?
    K301 looks like the exact right product to create a smooth slab to receive epoxy/resin, but unsure if it will just run down slope? Do you modify the mix, or are there different products for that purpose?

      If working on a gradient, mix one bag with approximately 4 litres of water depending upon the gradient required.

For external applications, after suitable surface preparation, prime with ARDEX P 51 Primer diluted 1:7 with clean water, and applied with a brush or broom. My garage floor is painted with floor paint which is warn in patches. Can I use this product on top of the paint?

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, “no”. A painted floor refers to anything on a floor that resembles paint and can include a variety of finishes ranging from acrylic or chlorinated rubber paints, which are generally used in domestic properties, to epoxy-based coatings more common in industrial locations. Before applying an ARDEX K 301 we recommend the removal of the “painted finish” to reveal a sound substrate without barriers to adhesion. This is because even though the K 301 may adhere to the “paint”, the bond of the “paint” to the substrate may not be strong enough and could lead to a failure in the floor.
      In situations where a contractor deems the “painted finish” sound and wishes to apply ARDEX K 301 directly to the “painted finish”, a trial area is always recommended and the contractor is accepting all responsibility that the bond of the “painted finish” is sufficient for the end-use.

      Hi Casey, the movement that caused the cracks may also crack any resurfacing compound applied directly on top. It's important to repair the cracks first with an epoxy such as ARDEX P 10 SR Rapid Hardening Crack Repair Kit. This can be sand blinded to receive the K301 after.

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      K 301 is suitable for driveways and can level from 2mm to 20mm in a single application. if working on a gradient, mix one bag with approximately 4 litres of water depending upon the gradient required.

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Beata, thanks for your question. When it's mixed at a thin 1:7 and allowed to dry, you'll run the risk of getting more pinholes/air bubbles in the K301. The heavier dilution allows the primer to penetrate the dry concrete and release more of the trapped air.

    Hello. I have a couple of K301 questions and would be grateful if you could help, please.
    1) Is a garage classed as "internal dry" or "external" in terms of the Product Data Sheet? The P51 dilution rates are very different. "Internal dry" is 1:1. "External" is 1:7. I would have thought a garage was "Internal dry" but the video shows a dilution rate of 1:7?
    2) How long do you need to leave the A46 patched areas to "go off" before applying K301?
    Thank you
    Chris

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Chris, thanks for your questions. Q1: We typically treat a garage as external, because there is the possibility of rain water coming in on vehicles, or seeping under doors etc. In this case, it was more of a carport, so we went with 1:7. When it's mixed at a thin 1:7 and allowed to dry, you'll run the risk of getting more pinholes/air bubbles in the K301. The heavier dilution allows the primer to penetrate the dry concrete and release more of the trapped air. Q2: The A46 should be hard/walkable prior to applying the P51 and K301 which will be approximately four hours.

    Hi I had panned using k301 a few years ago and I'm still interested in what looks like a great product. Can you tell me how long it lasts outside approximately before a need for re application (I live in London for an idea weather exposure) and when it breaks down how does this occur does it peel like paint?.
    Also the area I need to cover has a smooth transitional curve over a 7 foot radius. So in effect I would be working steeply up hill on that , How would it manage this? and lastly could I put anything like your water proof swimming pool coating to extend the life and make it even more durable. it needs to remain as smooth as possible. thanks.

      Hi Rob, good question. Like most concrete, there is a risk the surface will be damaged if it's subjected to very low temperatures whilst setting. K301 needs to be kept about 5°C until it's fully hardened before it's subject to freezing temperatures. You'll find most cementitious products will need to be protected against adverse climatic conditions as they set, so make sure its protected against rapid air flow, direct sunlight and frost etc. If there is a risk of frost at night times. I'd install it as early in the morning as conditions allow, as the harder it is, the best chance it will withstand the cold.

    How much K301 was needed for this project? Our garage is similar in size so just want to make sure I’m estimating the right amount

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Benjamin, we used 5 bags for this project. Consumption is 1.6kg of K301 powder per m² per mm deep. So for a typical garage of say 15m² we'd estimate 4-6 bags depending on thickness and quality of the existing substrate.

    I’ve got a 30x 60 room that has at least 3 inch of fall to the center of room I do floor coatings a lot but not sure how to keep up mixing with a product and getting it down unless I just do it sections and pour back into the last batch then any high spots just grind it even .. only problem is most levelers are to soft to grind after install..

      @ARDEXUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Greg, if you're looking to level the 3" fall we'd recommend using a slurry bonded screed cement first, then finish with the K 301. Something like ARDEX A 29 screed bonded with ARDEX A 18. If you need to keep the fall, you can hold back on the water mix for K 301 to 4.5 to 4.75 litres per bag, which can help hold it back on mild slopes. Feel free to get in touch with some photos and more details and we can have someone call you to help further: info@ardex.co.uk

    Steve, Great video. I’ve thought about doing my garage floor for some time but never had the courage. I felt your video using K301 on a path was too easy so pleased to see it used on a garage floor, perhaps the most common usage for a DIYer.
    A few of questions if I may:
    Primer: Different to that used for the path and no sand blinding. Is the method you show preferred for garage floors?
    Spiked Roller: Do you use it for each pour to blend the current pour with the previous? (Clearly you can’t go over the whole floor at the end.)
    Time: Roughly how long did it take to apply the K301? I’ve always been concerned that for the DIYer the Working Time is rather short.

      Hi Ian, thanks for your comments. If you have a garage where the car is driving in and out pretty straight, Ardex P 51 will be fine. If you expect the floor to be subject to lots of heavy turning, go for the stronger option of Ardex R3E sand blinded.

      Hi Ryan, the wet primer helps stop the dry substrate from pulling the moisture out of the setting mortar.

    Never understand why guys still use the trowel, pour it & spike roller it & job done.

    • @ARDEXUK
      @ARDEXUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can help spread the product faster, and the process allows you to better check the depths and coverage across the floor. Most self levellers have a degree of viscosity, which can be affected by the roughness of the substrate.
