      Dodge gives ur relentless high ini bros around 13 def at the end of the fight. Sand and daze is a good point and it reduces the dodge to 4-6, which is still decent, there's really nothing other than underdog, shield expert and lone wolf that gives u the same amount of defence. Relentless on 120+ ini brothers also replaces adrenaline in some fights. It's cool in the arena, for example. The combination has a good synergy with nimble and overwhelm, of course, but that doesn't mean you have to take the whole pack every time. On my dagger Viper and on my fencers it works tremendous, especially early game - opponents choose to attack my shielded bros, because it gives u +17 defence or so on the first couple of turns, i really appreciate the perk

    Comment on Polearm Mastery: The perk is not particularly exciting by itself, however in combination with pathfinder the stacked AP and fatigue reduction completely changes the game. The polearm brother can now move 2 tiles on any tarrain (includeing elevation) and still attack, while never running out of fatigue. Dedicated polearms are not particularly grat in the lategame, but if you get a famed one its worth it. Also, my variation of the bannermann looks a lot like your build, but i take both cleaver and polearm mastery makeing him very reliable and extremely mobile damage dealer in the mid game, then a whip-bot in the lategame. Use a brother with high melee attack and high resolve (retired soldiers and adventurous nobles are perfect for this).

    Steel Brow pairs really well with Nimble Tanks (and Nimble in general) and allows you to use heavy body armor with light hats (Like Noble Mail + Necro Cap, or Davkul Armor with Light Padding)

    • @FilthyRobot

  • @Primitive29
    @Primitive29 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Take your initiative minus your max fatigue, multiplied by 15%. That's the minimum melee and ranged defense that dodge will give you, barring sand kick, dazed, stunned, or injured.
    With relentless, it's initiative minus half your max fatigue times 15%.
    For every +5 initiative level, dodge gives 0.75 melee defense and 0.75 ranged defense, or 1.5 total points in the defensive skills.
    With brawny, dodge gives 1.5 in defensive skills for every 16 points of armor fatigue.
    That's very effective for one perk point, for brothers that are suited to it. It's most effective to make the choice to compete on initiative early, and if you do go for that perk cluster.

    It’s funny, I agree with you on most all of what you said…
    Except this one time I found a Quick, Dextrous Thief with 3 stars initiative & melee attack, 1 star melee defense with starting resolve mid 40s and 130 initiative
    Built him as Fearsome, Doge, Executioner, Overwhelm, Crippling Strikes, Recovery, Dagger, Quick Hands, Relentless, Nimble. Would use a Rondel and armor with Wolf hide attached, loaded with nets and a smoke bomb, team up with billhook guy to pull close and puncture or hunt heavy armored enemies. He’d get 5 fearsome puncture attacks and most enemies either died, routed or had -30% from overwhelm, some morale damage, a couple injuries and was facing a nimble character with 35-40 melee defense.

    The times I find dodge being good is ranged builds Where they rolled well with Int. Early game tanks with naturally good int. When their rocking 80 int after heavy early game armor then yeah. Basically adds a basic full shield to the person on top of already having a shield.
    How ever a strong alt to dodge is steel brow. On paper you wont roll for head or body if they don't hit you. Yet when they do making head shots non crits is really nice and with so many good tank skills in T3 it ends up being either/or with dodge and steel brow as early game goes. Late game steel I'm sure is flat out better.

    I like to use footwork and lone wolf on my fencers. Lunge synergizes with footwork very well. The amount of manuverability you get in the build is impressive. It helps when I try to split off some of enemy units off the main groups flank to make the fight more manageable. Stamina management is the difficult part in this type of build though.

    I put points in range defense on my tanks and ranged units that roll 4s or 5s. I've seen the AI not take shots against my bros and pass their turn (doing nothing or just moving back and forth). I'm in the latest 1.5 version. Maybe the AI got nerfed or decides not to waste its fatigue on a low accuracy shot, waits for a better shot but that better shot never comes and so it passes since it has to end its turn at some point.

    I've had some fun in a Manhunter run with a Bags and Belts+Quick Hands Firelance build. The idea is that you can spend the few stat points you get with Indebted on defense, while still being able to make full use of the whipped buff and doing some respectable damage - for Indebted - especially to backline targets. Might even be worth going for Crippling Strikes for those burn wounds, though perk points tend to be very tight with Indebted.

    Allow me to disagree on "headhunter". I use it with my two handed sword and polearm bros, and against undead it is very good as they can hit twice in a round with "berserk". With 100 or more melee skill they rarely miss, so yeah it's not always effective but from my perspective heads are flying since I use it. I also have a one handed cleaver master. Use the decapitate skill first, then regular blow will hit the head as well and you will save fatigue. Anyway all what you say is true. Hitting an orc warrior in the head after destroying his chest armor is bad karma.

    There are TWO DIFFIRENT types of builds - early game builds and late game builds. And late-game brothers are really abusing company in early game by expence, fragility (because you try to save them) and stupidity because you obviously reject fast adaptation, dodge, gifted, quick hands, dagger mastery (one of my favourite early-game perk) and occasionally - even backstabber and overwhelm!
    That's why late-build students supposed to be added very softly to the core. (And do sheet at backline all the time)))
    You know this but mention about it somehow uncertain.

    Glad to see you in a good form again, Filthy ;-) Concerning dodge and initiative as a stat: you should try a fencer build: dodge, recover, pathfinder, sword mastery, nimble, duelist, berserk, frenzy, 2 floating perks (I like Lonewolf + Colossus personally). Background: thief or assassin. Leveling matt > ini > mdef > HP > fat (75 useable fat should be enough). Weapon: fencing sword, playstyle: flanking and attacking backline with lunge attacks (twice a turn if fatigue allows). It's the only use of ini stat that I found to be worth the investment, but it's a really good one.

    So, wish to input my experience with some of the Perks and how I use them aside from the one we all agree are great.
    First I use ranged weapons (crossbows and bows) more like a support rather then an artillery or damage dealers, that being said I have found few places for some of the perks Robot doesn't consider useful. By having 2 ranged brothers - one focusing the bow and another on the crossbow you can utilize weapon drops and switch them in and out of combat if they are needed (sniping Necromancer is great for example).
    Crippling Strikes - is good for crossbows, their armor penetration makes it useful against Orcs and Barbarians when they have armor.
    Now the idea behind that is not the injury itself, which if appropriate is welcomed - but to increase the damage of our front-line damage dealers who have Executioner.
    So while I indeed have 2 perks for 20% damage increasement, it's split between two characters one of which is basically a filler and is not required to be that good overall.
    The other Perk which you find useless - Overwhelm is good for bowman who will target enemy champions for 30% or assist a cornered brother by lowering enemy's chance of hitting him.
    Lone Wolf is also decent for bowman because he can a lot of the times split up from your squad and use his boosted stats to snipe from distance or apply Overwhelm while being away from the action. Not 100% applicable tho.
    Head Hunter (recently read over the forums) to abuse it with Flail's Lash, then switching to another weapon (with Quick Hands) and strike again with Axe.

    Nice guides. Honestly I find that most of the changes are really good. For example indomitable being only good on tank (defensive Frontline) is a good example that the perk was too good before and therefore pretty much every character would use it. Also no I was to try an initiative full debuff Archer build :D Something like Dodge, Relentless, Crippling strikes, Executioner, Overwhelm.

    Regarding the axe mastery, what do you think about taking it for the purpose of using a man-splitter axe? That way, it reduces it's fatigue cost from 20 to 15, and you don't have to actually pay for a greataxe, with approximately 17% dps boost.

  • @geopoliticos
    @geopoliticos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Oh and something I wanted to mention from my own experience. I find myself (as big fan of early-game dodge-initiative) very often in dangerous situations before the choice - make hit and shieldwall - or do recovery to recover initiative and get back my 15+ melee defence. And making recovery saved my soldiers so often that I'm getting used to that tactic.

  • @changliu3915
    @changliu3915 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Think of high initiative as permanent adrenaline. With Relentless you can wait, let the enemy come to you, 3 dagger attack, 3 again on the next turn because you go first. That is 6 attacks, if you deathblow or puncture, nothing survives.

    @ChristIsKingPhilosophy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I liked the rundown... I agree on mostly everything. My main disagreement is I still like Recov, specially on duelists, since it's easier than ever to have good recruits.
    I think the game has gotten easier with the new DLC, and some of the changes in weight for the perks have to do with the economics of the game.
    Whips have found the sweetspot (they're not as effective against nomads and gladiators for example in comparison with maces).
    HP has become more important (I like 80-ish and almost never go over 90 tho). I still prefer battleforged to nimble. I also agree that Stam has been nerfed, and that resolve is no longer such an issue bc of the arena.
    I have stopped using mega tanks. Late game I mostly field 2handers and the banner with a couple exceptions (against goblins for instance).
    It is now cheaper than ever to field very good backgrounds (nomads are essentially cheaper raiders since you can hire them with very cheap gear). Manhunters are ok (cheaper militia), Gladiators are plentiful (if not as good as HK). Money is not an issue late game, so you can now hire many HK and forget about stamina. That is the main reason I would not indulge too much on Brawny (tho it's still not half bad).
    The changes as a whole have made old backgrounds very playable (disowned nobles for example). I am starting to use less bowmen, and if I do I tend to use a build similar to your science archer (for necros and hexen), maybe you could try to go rangeless on your next run.
    I slightly disagree on Overwhelm, bc it is very good against linds, (but you can mostly avoid them if you want). And I disagree on pathfinder, bc I think it's still too niche. I don't like 0 stam builds bc the game is about alpha-strike, not sustain. I already liked Recov for sustain (so I can take full advantage of the damage perks, but I agree, you still need a considerable fatigue pool for that).
    With the recruiter and retinue I have tried fishing for beggars with good stars (with great success) but I am left wanting a bit more stam. I think using the mod for tryouts really breaks the economy of the game (which is already very easy).
    On the weapon perks... I agree it's hard to get good hammers, but I still like hammers. And I like the axe perk bc it gives flexibility (you can go 1h or mansplitter if you want through the midgame).
    I would rank executioner a bit higher (the undead are easy as they are and goblins don't even matter to me)... I would suggest you try a crippling strikes+executioner duelist (those are the most OP characters in the game against humanoids).
    The thing with crippling strikes is that it's hard to quantify when you are getting a bonus... It depends on enemies and weapons, but it's more often than what you think. I wouldn't consign it to just some specialized builds, but in terms of weapon spec.
    Swords for example are a good candidate for CS, the 2H Greatsword is not good enough to cripple by itself, and CS also has a very nice synergy with Gash from the Shamshir (so you can build a "crippler" duelist) to buff up your other bros.
    On another somewhat related topic, the only criticism of the game I would like to add is that there is no incentive to some fights... Lindwurms and goblins give very little in comparison to what they give... (Maybe if the gobbos dropped some light famed armors, and the lindwurm drops were better...) I would like a lindwurm-killing pike or hammer, and more crisis involving beasts (and smaug-like lindwurms).

    • @viniciusdesouzamaia
      @viniciusdesouzamaia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      About your criticism of rewards, I agree 100%. The goblins have been "fixed" for me by the Revised Named Items mod, which made them drop a lot of useful gear now, even if it's not directly always amazing, but the loot rewards from beasts in general is still quite meh considering how dangerous they are. I guess goblins were also made trivial by the thrower and quick hands reach frontilner builds.

  • @viniciusdesouzamaia
    @viniciusdesouzamaia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My view on overwhelm is similar to your view on rotate. It's an economic perk for me. It reduces the variance of the game, so I take less hits, less armor and health damage and less unnecessary wounds. I don't use it as a way to debuff powerful enemies. I like it on ranged units which I tend to build with a some initiative and they usually come with lots of initiative built in as well.

  • @viniciusdesouzamaia
    @viniciusdesouzamaia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lone Wolf is great on tanks that you can use to split parts of an enemy force away from the main group. They get a lot of value out of it. Then again, I build them in a particular way and I'm not very concerned if they die.

    btw the math has been done on colossus vs nimble for battleforge brothers. If your armor is at less than about 30 fatigue (doable with famed items) nimble outperforms colossus (even on battleforge brothers)

    • @NorNamor
      @NorNamor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That sounds like extreme lategame builds where you can reliably actually get enought fatigue reduced armor. Going from a total of up to 62 fat (20 head + 42 chest) down to 30 is kinda rought.

    • @abhuyllongfellow4233
      @abhuyllongfellow4233 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@NorNamor I'm not saying he is RIGHT. I didn't find or check the calculations myself (i will do it on my current company though. Found it interesting. However, only at day 45).
      But for the sake of argument, let's assume he is right and 30fat is a breakpoint and use "common" (armorer) armors.
      Scale Armor = 240d / -28fat
      Sellsword Armor = 260d / -30d
      Factor in a helmet for what... 6-10 fat.
      Barbut = 190d / -9 fat
      Rusty Coif = 140d / -9 fat
      You'd only be compromising around 10 fatigue. Sounds like a decent investment until you actually get a reduced fat famed armor (which aren't all THAAAAT rare tbh).
      Also, assuming you scour the North for a while, you could get some -fat padding for your armors reaching the alleged breakpoint a tad easier.
      Worth testing and doesn't sound prohibitively late-game, IMO.

      I checked your statement and can confirm for future readers that it is true.
      Forge+nimble with 250 armor+fur padding dies in 9.94 hits on average vs all enemies
      Forge+collosus with 250 armor+fur padding dies in 8.77 hits.
      and if somehow you drop some perks in favour of whole trinity forge+collossus+nible (250 armor+fur) your brother can tank 10.62 hits on average.

    • @NorNamor
      @NorNamor 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@perkele48 The math depends on how much that 250 armor weights. When Head + Armor weights 44 Fat in total Nimble does absolutley nothing. If they total 35 FAT the gain from Nimble is 20% reduction, mathing out at the same EHP as Colossus. Any lower than that Nimble is better than Colossus... However, battleforged is kinda crappy when you are below 450 total armor (adds less survivability than Colossus, the math here is more complex so I won't go though it to not make this a massive wall of text)... No non-famed combination of armor is below 35 total FAT, but also provides over 450 total armor. The closest would be Barbrute helmet and Sellsword armor Light Padding Replacement, but that is exacty 190+260 armor = 450, so Your not gaining anything AND youre spending a quite hard to get armor attachment AND you have a quite crappy balance between head and chest armor (190/260).

      @@abhuyllongfellow4233 Getting a total gain out of it is hard and very dependent on RNG with famed items. When Head + Armor weights 44 Fat or more in total Nimble does absolutley nothing. Basicly I would not make a "Nimbleforged" brother unless you somehow have both a famed head and a famed chest with very good fatigue reduction rolls and at over 250 armor each (quite unlikely), then the brother in question would still not be that useful, because as soon as his armor is damaged you have no backup armor for him, so the "downtime" becomes a problem.... It's just not viable unless youre talking about a day 400+ strat at witch point you should be beating the game anyway.

    Honestly Nine lives with no buffs should be apart of the game, to help protect from one shots on your bothers. Then the perk should let it dodge every attack till the end of the turn out side of aoes as well as remove dots. Buying a whole turn would make it useful but when it's gone, it's gone.

    • @boomknight1015

      Granted to balance it you can't use the improved nine lives again till the bother was fully healed. To stop it from being in every single fight and saving a bother when it counts.

    I swear some mastery types along with some of the perks that complement them are definitely designed for "there can be only one" runs like Axe mastery or Sword mastery. And in those kind of runs they are exceptional (and generally speaking those kind of runs are kinda fun to play and watch through). That being said, I do use those things from time to time, being a casual BB gamer, not really doing builds but more like doing weird runs, playing with different mods, editing to create "the ultimate dream squads" and whatnot, but yeah I do feel that some of perks were designed to be bad or for a very, very specific purpose(s).
    Don't know if you are still playing BB but:
    I know you Filthy are doing only sponsored runs online, I mean while streaming, but if you get to just play some runs on your own, I highly suggest you to try "there can be only one" or "solo" run with an idea of creating/making a mega dodgy/evasive/ultra high def + riposte/AoE brother who can single-handedly win those ridiculous mid to late game fights, where you don't have to do much but just click from time to time and let enemies suicide on you (it also makes you realize how under utilized is a fact/tactic that you can *only* be surrounded by max 6 enemy units in total), it was very satisfying and fun for me and maybe you'll like it too! :) That being said, I didn't play much BB with Blazing Deserts DLC and don't know if that kind of run is still viable for late game and new/unique enemies.
    Anyway, have fun and looking forward to watch more BB content from you (also to get a feedback on this particular run if you ever decide to give it a try). All the best! :)

    rotate is still the best skill in the game by a very wide margin and i dont even CARE
    if it is down in somebody's perspective that really just means they have become bored with how good it is. which is fine but doesn't actually mean it isn't just the best perk ever
    it has so many uses beyond just saving a guy. i mean, it totally can just save a guy, but it is so much more than just that. it is at-your-fingertips weapon selection; it is stamina pool sharing; it is injury mitigation; it is flanking; it is get-outta-jail-free for pinned ranged weapons; etc etc etc
    it is just the best
    it is the key component of moment to moment roman battlefield tactics, and battle bros is like the only game ever to feature it, and its just here for YOU to help you dominate everything

  • @ayuvir

    I've found that Dodge builds require Nimble, relentless and anything that can make you brother more mobile and more stam efficient. Along with a base brother that has a huge stamina pool and iron lungs. Give him sword mastery, duelist and a dueling sword and you have a fun but very rng dependent build.

    I'm going to argue Resilient is good on a super tank because they simply cannot afford to not be good at their job. Crossbow Mastery is good because it is basically Duelist for crossbow. I don't have much to disagree with the other stuff though.

    Fearsome - Impact is felt against Zweihanders for an Archer Banner - make them flee on the flanks. Also effective on Orc Berserkers, and any bandit/nomad, and importantly on Chosen enemies - fittable on an archer banner because of free perk points

    I dont understand how you rationalize colossus vs nine lives. Nine lives will give you more effective hps on average than colossus will. Colossus = 15-20 extra hps, nine lives can be upwards of 100+ depending on the wep hitting you. The rest of them I largely agree, especially pathfinder. I have a lot of strong fatigue neutral builds that get great use out of pathfinder.
