They are a solid challenge to most any force, even Orcs and Legion undead.

I wouldn't get 5 archers with crossbows unless they are equipped with heavy armor and are hybrid(polearm or longaxe in bag), if they are not hybrid, they are useless against ancient undead. Also, in some cases bows are better than crossbows. Late game you need heavy hitters(Guys with 2h weaps) but also pure tanks to soak up the damage and taunt dangerous enemies like necrosavants preventing them to hit your archers. There isn't a "best combination", many combinations can work if you cover all of your weaknesses.
What backgrounds do your guys have, I was wondering which were the best for my dudes since i usually just go with Farmhands, Fishermen, and Lumberjacks.
I was also wondering about those Legendary items, my guys have a lot of uniques, but none of the legendaries. Is that related to the difficulty level of the game? I think i put it on the normal level because it was my first run, do i need to go harder to get those legendary items?
I just held the flanks while I destroyed their frontline, nothing special. Enemy archers aimed at my archers but they couldn't hit because they were positioned behind my other brothers, staying behind an allied unit drastically lowers the chance of being hit. For example my archers have 120 ranged skill and when they attack an archer that stands behind another unit they have like 30-50% chance to hit but if the archer is alone they have 80-90%. With that said, Arbalesters probably have 80-100 ranged skill which give them like 20-40% chance to hit my archers that are behind my other units.

Over 1500 days in battle brothers would take over 30+ Actual days, not including every single battle fought. Replacing dead brothers. It could easily be over 2-3 months.
I don't think HP is useless, more like melee defense is far superior than HP. Do you prefer to get hit and resist more or dodge the attacks? You can see what stats I prioritize on my video "My mercenary squad in beta"
If no one has told you and you not seeing for yourself. Yes you can! You can only find them by killing noble units, and it depends on how much damage you render onto armour. Its all rng based If you were curious on aquiring armour with ease, you use daggers and use armour pierce. It goes through armour and directly damages HP of enemies.
