I know many real estate agents are uncomfortable telling owners the truth about their home if the home is messy and dirty. Unfortunately, they often wait months before getting the help they need. Yes, money must be spent to properly prepare a house for sale, but it needs to be spent and come out of the proceeds from the property when it sells. Realtors are reluctant to show houses that have been on the market for a long time unless the house has been cleaned up. It's a hard sell when the house is dirty and messy and potential buyers will demand a lower sale price if the property is a mess. This includes maintenance of outside space.
