I am living this song. I am the last one standing. This song touches me beyond description. Thank you Corb Lund.
You were in our prayers Mike and we hope it turns out good for you. We had the same thing happen to us in our family and it's horrible when it happens I'm so sorry. You're in our prayers.
Many generations of farmer behind me, this one hits close to home, too.
I got to sit 15 ft away from Corb and hear this song in Tulsa. It was beyond words. This is the kind of "real" country music we need today.
Geiger Farm, You Are Absolutely Right.
That is quite possibly one of the saddest songs ever written for a farm kid. Nothing worse than seeing "equal" ruin several generations of blood, sweat, and tears.
Joel Seime some times right isn't equal, sometimes equal isn't fair...
my grandfathers sister sure tried... didn't get the land... but she got the lever action 22 ( and gave to the government, only thing I got left from 10 of great granpas is a 303 British that I can still open site consistent @ 400 yards) bit what is more saddening is not taking what left when offered to you... realize how stupid a guy is 10 years later, working for the neighbour who brought what should be yours... hine sight 20-20,
Yer tellin me. My dad deeded our land to my uncle when he was sick with cancer. When he died, the will said my siblings and I were to get his half of the land. Uncle kept it. Most of it has been developed now.
Absolutely the best song that I've heard in years. Not only that, but tells a tale of situations that are sad but true in the farming and ranching community today.
I was there! I was one of the faces in that crowd. Corb is truly one of the great ones, and so is this song.
Yeah Corb said your skin made him cry. Sorry you had to find out this way :(
Where was this show?
Hadn’t heard this before he played this in concert. Venue has maybe 40 people there all in all, soon as he walked back out alone with his guitar you could hear a pen drop. Corb proceeded to lay this song on us. Incredible.
brings a tear to my eye every time i hear this song
Same. Every. Damn. Time 😢
I lived this.... it's soul killing, I was the only one that wanted to keep Ranching.... You never get over it.
I lived it also with a brother and sister.. running on 25% of what I once managed for the family.. barely scraping by now. You are right, a person never gets over this loss.
@@johnburns1453not far from it here. I will not sell out. Hold fast
Jesus, what a powerful song.
I've heard this song a thousand times; I still cry every time...
This is a song of the Alberta Rancher. They will forever be a part of us. Beautiful song
Spoken in past tense
I heard cows around and decided to check more of Corb songs... I was not ready for this...
A rewarding seach for sure
when you see him live he will admit that he hates the cows song. It was a fun thing he did that got him recognition but his true art lies in his heart-felt songs like this one. An outstanding performer I will go see every time he comes to Texas.
Cuts deep don't it?
Im the 6th generation in central Alberta. For 4 generations my family farmed a piece of land right by Carvel, AB. It was sold out by a now ex-communicated family member, and the new family homestead is 10 minutes west of Stony Plain, AB. My dream is to buy up the old family land and raise up my kids on it
Go get it friend. I wish you all the honest best.
Good luck to you,I hope you get it back
Godspeed, brother. I have the same dream, down here in the hills of Texas
This and This is my Prairie are my 2 favorite corb lund songs
Gives me hope for humanity when I listen to Corb. Keep playing and I'll keep listening.
Corb was The Smalls. Punk band. Hes so talented!
This song is a kick in the balls.
qball671 yup, and like a fool I keep coming back for another, and another
Truth is very humbling
Story tellin, heart breakin, with structure and a finger roll. What else could a person want. Thanks Corb
Fantastic from Corb
Great the crowd quietened for this beautiful lament
I saw Corb at the Back Country Bash in Joseph. OR a few years ago.I didn't know his music. I was there for Reckless Kelly. When he started this song, everyone was chatty. Half way through, you could hear a pin drop. It slayed me. It is truth.
This song speaks to my soul.
Brilliant, beautiful, raw, painful, brutally true and truthful, I've lived it. Corb's amazing.
This has to be one of my favorite songs ever
I just became a fan!!!!! ❤
Makes me bawl like baby every time. Incredible song
Such a well written , well preformed sad song. Thanks Corb
Love only, truth will provel ❤
I just noticed this as background music for The Ranch on Netflix for one episode. It really is a powerful comment.
This song should get so much more credit than it has! 🥺❤️
When you've done the best you can and everything you can never be ashamed of anything you do
One of my favorites 💕

Corb Lund is awesome
I cried like a baby the first time I heard this song
This is a beautiful song. I love it
love it
Sad TRUE story!!! Happening everyday
Beautiful
In tears
Well ok. (sniff, wipe, sniff) I sure wasn’t expecting that! Unless I misunderstood, his sister forced him (but how?) to sell much of the land, they sold it and cookie-cutter houses were built on it, his mom died first and, finally, the bank took the ranch.
So very much pain, loss and anger all rolled up into a “simple” song!!
Corn, my sweet friend, I can’t help what happened, but I’m here to lend you strength and to listen. God bless and keep you. 🙏🏼❤️
Sister got half because she went to the courts to get an inheritance, which they deemed to be half of the land or an equal sum of money. Sister probably didnt want land so he had to pay money, which could only be given by selling land.

I am thinking very unkindly of his sister right now. Given their finances, she didn’t need a dime. Isn’t it the truth….when you have some money, all you really want is more. Selfish.
Holy shit I love the SNFU sticker! Corb knows what’s up! This made my day! 🤟
Commenting 2 years later in case you somehow didn’t know, Corb was in an Edmonton punk band in the 90s before he started his solo country stuff: The Smalls. Guy knows punk, metal and country!
Good one
He speaks truth
Multi generational ranches should never die. The fact they do is very sad
I've cowboy'ed all over for ranches, that's been my life, but I won't ever get to ranch for myself and family, my relatives broke it up and sold it off....
And they call it progress.
I come from a ranching family over 100 yes ago crabtree northwest of ft Worth TeX as
Ain’t no better

If you get knocked down don't stay down
This song is the lament of the Canadian rancher
When uve dione all u can that's all u can do
i was the sole cowboy that kissed my 16 yr old sweety 33yrs still the first and last one i kiss everyday
Life is sad sometimes
Where was this show?
Way to keep that white shirt clean, Corb!

There is no shame in. Loozing but u don't have. To stay down
I've never seen roots run.
Canadian family farm song ;(
Universal in the rural areas worldwide
Amen

This makes my heart hurt. I am forced to watch this happen to my own farm. I am the 4th generation and am trying to hold onto tradition for my 3 children, but farm ground is at $45k per acre and there's no way I can keep emanate domain from swallowing me up
I’m 4th generation farming family land with my dad, I have brothers. I’ve developed a plan B because I fear this will happen when dad dies. But I’ll farm the land as long as it isn’t taken from me.
so sad
Don't ever led anyone put shame onu
goddamm little sisters
We are losing America
You mean Canada
No America have you seen Joe Biden
Dude... Corb is Canadian... but losing a family farm and the pain is universal
This wasn't yours to lose.😊
I don't like my sister much right now.
So freaking depressing. Music is supposed to be happy and hopeful!
Music should be happy, but this is the song of SOME many Alberta ranchers and farmers. The old homestead is quickly dying
Sometimes supposed is ruins heartache blood anger lose heartbreaking soul losing truth of life
Music is suppose to make you feel, And this song sure does that
Guess someone has never listened to John Prine. Ha.
New to country music? Or Irish? Music is just about feeling, and telling it how it is.
