    I love the name "Downcast" for fallen angels, wicked evocative.

    I’d love to see more on the Dreamers. They’ve been one of the parts of Grimhollow I’ve fixated on since first reading about them in the player book

    Love playing my current Wechselkind Monk. After dying and being brought back to life, he had an existential crisis: Was I even really "alive" in the first place? how could I be brought back? Doesn't that require a soul? If I have a soul, was it created by the fey, or did they also steal this to put it in my body to animate it? The cleric of seraph of vengeance in my party couldn't answer me well enough, but as a proud Ostoyan, we agreed on vengeance being a valid response. In this case, against the fey who stole a child and a soul to torment an innocent family. My monk just reached level 3 and picked the Leaden Crown path because after his crisis, he really, really hates fey, demons, undead and other creatures that treat humanoids and their souls like play things.

    I adore rhe Wechelkind's lore because it can be either really soft or creepy. They're forever children and unlike changlings, fae usually swap them in when the child is dying of sickness or has passed in order to ease the parents suffering. Pinocchio is a similar feeling but you don't even realize it until much later. Because of their nature of being replacement children, they're usually extremely helpful, but its impossible to know how old they are. A player of mine basically just played Greg from Over the Garden wall but he could turn into a mutant bear and yet he was the sweetest bean throughout our game of Citadel of the Unseen Sun

    I'm so glad you went out of your way to explain each race! And the Accursed are just what I needed. Some of my players when I mention Grim Hollow have asked about playing a race that's not in the Grim Hollow player's guide like a Tabaxi. To see the Accursed, it just fits perfectly as a way to fulfill my players' need for what they look like and my desire to make it fit within the world of Etharis.

    Excellent creativity in the different heritage options. The tragic aspects so many of them have fits perfectly into a dark fantasy setting. Picking a favourite is hard, but I find myself especially curious about the Downcast and the Wechselkind.

    On of my dnd groups is starting up a grim hollow game. I chose wechselkind requiem bard. I figure I would lean into a different origin story for my character. Keeping irl fairytales in mind, and the capricious nature of fey, I opt to not have my wechselkind be the typical “replacement child” that most are. Most replace a child stolen, in this lore. The same isn’t true for mine as they were a gift by a neighboring fey who gave the parents the construct child after their own, real one, passed away, as the fey was moved by their grief. The parents knew full well my wechselkind was not flesh and blood but raised her anyway and even referred to her as their late child’s “twin.” The backstory I went with is that this wechselkind spent the rest of their parents’ lives caring for them and playing the part of their blood child until the parents tragically passed during a pandemic outbreak that swept through. Now the wechselkind, since they were raised by nobles, has inherited the name and fortune but had it contested by flesh and blood people. Normally such people could successfully remove someone like her, but none wish to possibly anger the fey who created her. So she has opted to join others and travel (joined the party basically) all to remove herself from the nightmare that is high society and noble circles.

    I would love to see a full in depth Video about the lore of either the Dreamers or the Disembodied.
    I personally wonder what happened to Ulmyr's Gate after spending so long in the Ethereal realm. In a game me and my Friends played in, we ran it as that Ulmyr's Gate had been there for so long that so people were unable to maintain their minds for such a length of time and as they lost themselves since the Ethereal is already the realm of Spirits they didn't really have anywhere to go. So their spirits morphed and became part of the city. Over the course of many years and many people becoming part of the city, Ulmyr's Gate itself began to develop a form of consciousness itself. And it always was hungering for new knowledge.

    ... omfg.... When I first made my grim hollow character like.. half a year ago? There was no accursed. There was no Arisen.
    Without going into a lengthy backstory.... My character is a shifter, but she most certianly would have been a cat-accursed if it existed... And she has worked with science and magic along side her father and.. well... Her first lover became horribly mangled by one of the monsters she made... And managed to bring him back with the power of science... He most certianly would have been an arisen,

    Gnomes being good with explosives, make me think of making a Artificer or adding the Gunner feat? Obviously best friends with maybe a Gith & Possibly an Elf (elven accuracy)..

    3:19 maybe for this one you can gain strength by drinking the blood of other vampires, you can drink the blood of your foes but it's nothing more than having a sandwich that doesn't fill you up. But to drink the blood of other vampires is a form of rejuvenation giving you the power as the same as a full-blooded vampire.

    Question for your next how to video: in a grim fantasy setting, how would you recommend implementing the rule of silly without breaking the immersion? After all, the dice have the ultimate say in everything.

    Are their limits to what anthromorphed form the Accursed can take? I always enjoyed text RPing as Insect Folk like Thri-Keen, so I hope an insect form falls into that category =)
    In fact, I would like a video about the Accursed just to know what anthro forms can be used in a campaign

    • @GhostfireGaming
      @GhostfireGaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not really! The heritage system is intended to let your imagination roam.
      There may be limits to the traits we provide in the Grim Hollow version of the heritage system for the sake of capturing the setting's dark fantasy vibe. But if you have a specific character in mind, you could port a trait over from Arora or Aetherial Expanse.
      But a video exploring how anthropomorphic type characters could fit into Grim Hollow, to help player's and GM's, is a great idea!

    question: are Grudgel's like the orc equivalent in grim hollow or are they more their own thing and can i play as a orc, is that race advirable

    • @GhostfireGaming
      @GhostfireGaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They’re the same species, separated by time. The orcs were a culture from Grim Hollow’s deep history that are whispered about as fairytale monsters. Modern grudgels don’t much resemble these tales, anymore, which were likely apocryphal in the first place.

      @@GhostfireGaming but they have the same stat's as normal dnd orcs when played? as ive be looking for a book that has them stated as a player race but I haven't found them anywhere

      They have different traditional heritage traits than what typical D&D 5e Orcs have had in the past. They're designed to feel different and more flexible in character creation than a 5e orc.

    • @GhostfireGaming
      @GhostfireGaming  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We appreciate how evocative you found the grudgels to go to that effort! There are also heritage traits provided for grudgels on page 420 of the Monster Grimoire, under the 'Monsters as PCs' chapter heading. 😅 I suppose use whichever version (ours or yours) you prefer!

    I actually began devising a campaign back in 2018 or 2017, Almier's Crossing is a protected City which scavengers ancient tech. Their City existing as a gate or entry into a mist which resembles that of far harbor from fallout 4. Is Almier a common or popular fantasy name?
