Looks very promising. They weren't the worst car in the world that was just media propaganda in the day. I love the car already, good luck with the restoration.

ACTUALLY, the fancy wheels would look even better on the Vanden Plas, with its fancy grille!

Great video I used to really dislike these in the 1970s but this looks kinda cool now. Good luck with fixing it,

Nice video. A bit of a strange one that car, 1300 according to the boot badge but must be either 1500 or 1750 since it has an E series fitted presumably complete with 5 speed gearbox. Someone must have fitted over size wheels since the tyres shouldn't foul the wheel arch even with collapsed suspension I would have thought.
It's of course Hydragas for Allego (not Hydrolastic suspension which was associated with ADO 16).
One of the best features of the Allego is they didn't rust quickly like their predecessor the 1100 / 1300, ADO 16 which were known for rotting thanks to Sir Alex Issigonis refusing to take Pressed Steel's advice to design out the rust traps before launching the cars.

As Allegros go that a pretty good specimen, obviously in dire need of some TLC. It’s strange but at some point these are going to become more and more desirable just because they were so awful. It has to be hydro elastic suspension and it really needs looking at before you drive it about or you’ll do some serious damage.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Lets just set the record straight. Allegros were not bad cars, infact, the suspension set up was very good and worked well. Its just that it was different, and new. People shyed away from that. What killed the Allegro, and quite unfairly, was that they were released to the public when BL was already a sinking ship. Pissed off striking workers on 3 day working weeks, on reduced wages were understandably less than happy, and this was sadly reflected in assembly of these cars. Also the finished car was rushed and BL had no time, or money to develop and "tweek" the early mistakes until the revised series two came along. Unfortunatley it was too late by then, and this was just another nail in the coffin. Yes, Im biased (I own one) but theyre incredibly simple mechanically and can be used daily without issue as long as theyre maintained. Most people who claim "I had one they were rubbish" probably bought it off a mate down the pub, paid £50 quid for it and never even thought to lift the bonnet until something went wrong.

Thank you. Surprisingly its held up okay over the last 11 years I've owned it but is its in dire need of some love! I will restore it someday I promise!! 😄

@@AllThingsAlex I had 2 and enjoyed them. Plenty of room under the bonnet to work on, but the down side were the infernal ball joints that needed constant attention to stop knocking. A comfy ride and pretty reliable, and never broke down to and from work. What's not to like! (lol)

The failure of BL to give the allegro what it needed was the beginning of the end, a 5 door estate would have been the bees knees

Great video, I'm no expert, but have pumped up Mini's 1100's, Metro's and one Allegro and would not have jacked up the car first. I would have thought, could be wrong though, that by jacking and pumping one was more likely to get air in the system. Not so bad if pump has a bleed valve though.

That's a really tidy shell! The MGB 14" rostyles really suit it. It may be possible to split the welds on the back & knock the centres outward by anything up to an inch & reweld them to the rims. This would correct the offset. Cheers. Leigh. PS: The 1750 engines sound good on twin 40 dcoe carbs! Check this out! th-cam.com/video/tifOfBdJ3as/w-d-xo.html

PLEASE DON'T PUT IT BACK WHERE YOU FOUND IT!
    TRY AND FIX IT!
OK BY LOOKING AT A U TUBE VIDEO ITS HARD TO MAKE AN ASSESSMENT OF WHAT NEEDS REPAIRING OR REPLACING .
HOWEVER IF THE BODY IS OK EVERYTHING ELSE IS EASILY AND CHEAPLY REPAIRABLE .
    GOOD LUCK!
