I know bait casters are good, however I don't have the time to perfect the settings and casting techniques to get it right through every lure and bait change on the fly. I'm a new homeowner, I work a regular job, and I work a self employed job in my spare time. Whatever time I have to fish I really don't want to spend it monkeying around with my bait caster. Especially if I can only carry 3 rods in my kayak at the moment. One goes out of commission at a crucial hour I'm down a presentation option. I've never regretted buying any of my spinning reels, and they work just as well in my honest opinion.
From what I read, a DC reel sounds perfect for you. Unlike reels with regular brakes, DC reels do not have hundreds of little fine tunes you have to regularly make. With DC reels, you set the tension until there is little to no wiggle in the spool, and you set the brakes to one of four general settings. After that, you're good to go - the Digital Controls adjust the brakes for you 1000 times per second depending on the conditions (wind, how hard/soft you casted, weight of the lure, etc).

give your brake a little bit more tension 2 or 3 clicks . Also use your thumb as a secondary break , keep it lightly on the spool and add pressure as the cast slows down and you wont have that problem .
For the non fisherman, this is a special rod where the reel spins very quickly, you have to keep your thumb on it before it hits the ground to properly cast it.
No. This isn’t true. For one the rod doesn’t spin it holds the reel. Secondly your bait should never hit the ground as fish live in the water. And lastly you don’t have to keep your thumb on the reel if you have your bait at the right length and you use the brakes properly.
I don't like a machine controlling how far I can cast. I fish with no spool tension and no brakes as long as it's not windy. Just my thumb. As a bank angler I need as much distance as I can get. Plus it just feels good to be able to feather the spool and have complete control.
